Blossoming cherry trees are widespread and popular in the US. Here’s when and where to see these flowers across the US.
  National Cherry Blossom Festival(Washington, D.C., March 20-April 13)
Twelve species of flowering cherry tree surround the Tidal Basin fronting the Potomac River in National Capital Parks. Their beautiful flowers attract some 1.5 million people during the four-week celebration, which is in honor of spring and international friendship. Events include a kite festival, a parade and fireworks, while across the capital, schools and neighborhoods plant new trees, and everything from buildings to buses are covered with pink.
International Cherry Blossom Festival(Macon, Georgia, March 21-30)
Georgia’s Macon-Bibb County has the largest concentration of cherry trees in any U.S. county—and boasts nearly one hundred times more than the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The area celebrates its blossoms with plant sales, a parade, concerts, outdoor movies, and markets. The festival ends with hot air balloon rides and fireworks over downtown.
  Ohio University’s Cherry Blossom Festival(Athens, Ohio, March 31-April 15)
Ohio University’s 230 cherry trees, living gifts from its sister institution, Chubu University in Japan, line the bike path along the Hocking River beyond campus. Each year, during peak bloom—usually late March to mid-April—the blossoms across from Wren baseball stadium are lit by lights for late-night viewing. The Japanese Student Association hosts a Sakura Festival to celebrate their flowering.

A six-year-old longing to keep a unicorn(独角兽) in her backyard figured she’d get the hard part out of the way first.
Last November, Madeline wrote a letter to the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control(DACC) with a straightforward request. “Dear DACC, I would like your approval for my having a unicorn in my backyard if I can find one. Please send me a letter in response.”
Mayeda, director of the department, replied two weeks later. She said the department does in fact license unicorns under certain conditions. Those include polishing the unicorn’s horn at least once a month with a soft cloth, feeding it watermelon at least once a week, covering it with only sparkles and giving it regular access to sunlight, moonbeams and rainbows. And, because unicorns are indeed very rare to find, the department also gave Madeline a toy unicorn to keep her company during her search, as a token of appreciation.
“It is always rewarding to hear from young people who thoughtfully consider the requirements of providing a loving home for animals,” Mayeda wrote in the letter. “I like your sense of responsibility towards pets to seek permission in advance to keep a unicorn in your backyard.”
Mayeda told The Washington Post that this is the first time the department has received a request for a license for a unicorn or any other mythical creature. They were impressed with the first-grader wanting to ask permission in the first place, and doing her research to work out how to go about that. She and her colleagues deal with a lot of “life-and-death” issues on the job, whether that’s seeing cases of animal abuse or animals hurting people, or making decisions about having to put down dangerous or sick animals. So Madeline’s letter has considerably brightened their spirits, and she is due to visit the department this week to discuss her unicorn license application. Safe to say, she’s in for a magical surprise.
24.Why did Madeline write the letter
A.To apply to visit a unicorn.
B.To figure out how to find a unicorn.
C.To learn to provide animal care.
D.To ask permission to keep a unicorn.
25.What can we learn from paragraph 3
A.Madeline’s application was not approved.
B.Madeline was presented with a live unicorn.
C.Requirements should be met for the license.
D.Guidance was given for her search.
26.Which of the following best describes Mayeda
A.Generous. B.Easy-going. C.Mean. D.Thoughtful.
27.Why does the department think the letter “has considerably brightened their spirits”
A.Because they are touched with the girl’s deeds.
B.Because animal protection is a life-and-death issue.
C.Because they are worn out with their daily work.
D.Because it is the first application letter for a unicorn.

In the heart of the Amazon rainforest, a unique project is underway. It’s not about saving a single animal species, but about preserving a disappearing human culture—the culture of the indigenous Sápara people.
The Sápara were once one of the most powerful nations in the Amazon region. However, due to diseases brought by outside settlers and the destruction of the rainforest for resources, their population has dramatically declined. Today, only a few hundred Sápara people remain. With their disappearance, their ancient language and rich cultural knowledge are also at risk of being lost forever.
To fight this, the Sápara community, with the help of UNESCO, has started building the first-ever “Sápara Cultural School”. This is not an ordinary school. Hidden deep in the jungle and accessible only by canoe, it has no walls or desks. The “classroom” is the rainforest itself. Here, the elders take the young Sápara children into the forest, teaching them to identify hundreds of different plants, not just by their names, but by their medicinal uses, spiritual significance, and the stories that have been passed down for generations.
“We are not just teaching them words,” explains one old man, Antonio. “We are teaching them how to read the forest. This plant is not just ‘a plant’; it is medicine for a fever. That river is not just ‘water’; it is the home of the spirit of our ancestors.” The curriculum includes learning the ancient Sápara language, hunting and fishing techniques that respect the balance of nature, and the traditional songs and dances that tell the story of their people.
The school is a race against time. As the modern world creeps(渐渐侵入) closer, the young generation is attracted by the conveniences of city life. By making learning rooted in their environment, the Sápara people hope to show their children that their heritage is not a relic of the past, but a living, valuable part of their future.
28.What is the main purpose of building the Sápara Cultural School
A.To attract more visitors to the rainforest.
B.To study the medicinal plants of the rainforest.
C.To teach young Sápara people modern living skills.
D.To protect the Sápara language and traditions.
29.In what way is the Sápara Cultural School “not an ordinary school”
A.It has advanced teaching equipment.
B.It uses the rainforest as its classroom.
C.It protects wildlife rather than culture.
D.It opens only in certain seasons of the year.
30.What challenge does the Sápara Cultural School face
A.Lack of support from the local government.
B.The difficulty of building classrooms in the jungle.
C.The influence of modern life on the young generation.
D.Disagreements between elders and children over the curriculum.
31.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A.A Unique Cultural School
B.UNESCO’s Help for the World
C.The Disappearing Sápara People
D.Protect the Amazon Rainforest’s Plants

The world is already facing natural disasters of epic proportions as temperatures rise. The only known method able to quickly arrest this temperature rise is climate engineering, which is a set of proposed actions to deliberately alter the climate.
These actions include imitating the cooling effects of large volcanic eruptions by putting large numbers of reflective particles(微粒) into the atmosphere, or making low clouds over the ocean brighter. Both strategies would reflect a small amount of sunlight back to space to cool the planet.
There are many unanswered questions, however, about the effects of intentionally altering the climate. One of the largest concerns for many countries is national security. That doesn’t just mean wars; risks to food, energy and water supplies are also national security issues.
Besides, a climate engineering project in one country is likely to affect temperature and rainfall in neighboring countries. That could be good or bad for crops, water supplies and flood risk. Once climate engineering is employed, countries may be more likely to blame climate engineering for extreme events such as hurricanes, floods and droughts, regardless of the evidence.
While small experiments have been carried out, nobody has conducted large-scale climate engineering yet. That means that a lot of information about its effects relies on climate models. For now, there are more questions about climate engineering than answers. It’s hard to say whether climate engineering would create more conflict, or if it could defuse international tensions by reducing climate change.
But international decisions on climate engineering are likely coming soon. At the United Nations Environment Assembly in 2024, African countries called for a postponement of climate engineering, urging all precautions. Other nations, including the United States, pressed a formal scientific group to study the risks and benefits before making any decision.
Climate engineering could be part of a reasonable solution to climate change. But it also carries risks. Put simply, climate engineering is a technology that
can’t be ignored, but more research is needed so policymakers can make informed decisions.
32.What does the underlined word “arrest” in paragraph 1 mean
A.Cease. B.Force. C.Adopt. D.Match.
33.What do we know about climate engineering
A.It aims at reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
B.It reflects a small amount of sunlight back to the earth.
C.It includes actions that copy the natural cooling effects.
D.It mainly uses reflective particles to create brighter clouds.
34.What has led to concerns about climate engineering
A.Climate models. B.Unidentified effects.
C.Weather conditions. D.Geographical locations.
35.What does the author imply in the last two paragraphs
A.Precautions are a better solution than climate engineering.
B.Different regions will embrace climate engineering altogether.
C.Progress has been made through international cooperation.
D.Follow-up studies are required to carry out climate engineering.

第二节(满分25分)
  阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On the tenth anniversary of my father’s death, I awoke to loud fire alarms at 3:30 a.m. Alexis, my elder daughter, was standing in the hallway with her cellphone and a blanket was wrapped around her younger sister, Sierra. We ran down the stairs to the main floor. The girls stood by the front door while I checked for the cause of the alarms. When I opened the door to my living room, I could see the carpets were smoking heavily. My house was really on fire.
I shouted to the girls, “Get out! The house is on fire!” They turned and ran out the front door, followed by me. Then we ran through the woods to our neighbor’s house. I knocked on my neighbor’s front door as fire engines passed by.
Later, I was told that it took the firemen a long time to put out the fire. Standing outside my burned house the next day, I got caught up in lots of questions. I had no cash or bank cards. How was I going to pay for anything Where would we live What would happen to my house now I didn’t even know where to start. Luckily, our community helped us a lot.
The fire burned almost everything, but I still decided to visit our burned house to search through the ruins. It’s interesting how you learn what really matters to you in those conditions. I found myself primarily searching for my father’s watch. I also found other treasures as I searched for his watch, including the ring my mom gave me when I left for college, a watch my grandmother gave me for high school graduation, and my daughter’s unworn dress, which was ruined. I found the last shirt my father had worn before his hospital stay. We had taken a trip after his second course of chemo(化疗). It was the last vacation we had taken before his death. At that moment, I felt differently about the fire.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
I realized the fire gave us more than it took away.

第四部分 写作
第一节
One possible version:
What Can We Do to Slow Global Warming
It is reported that the glacier at the North Pole is melting faster than ever. There is no doubt that the earth is getting warmer and warmer. It’s time for us to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
To begin with, we can turn off the electrical appliances when they’re not being used. In addition, it’s necessary to use things made from recycled materials. Furthermore, more trees should be planted, which can absorb carbon dioxide amazingly.
In a word, I do believe our joint efforts to slow global warming count and will definitely pay off.
第二节
One possible version:
I realized the fire gave us more than it took away. One of the greatest gifts we received was the kindness and care from our community. Some people dropped by with food, clothing and money. Others came to help us search for treasures in the ruins. My warm-hearted neighbor offered a room to the three of us while our house was being repaired. Another greatest gift we received was the belief that nothing matters more than family. The fire did burn away lots of our personal items, but we saved the most valuable things.
My dad’s watch is on my bedside table now, which is a reminder that anyone or anything can be lost without warning. I learn to treasure everything I have and not to complain about the loss. I also teach Alexis and Sierra to do the same as me. Most importantly, my girls and I keep paying attention to those who are in trouble. It is of great importance for us to pay back the kindness we have received, for which we will be grateful forever.
