Unit 6 Plan for Yourself
Section B 4a-4c (Project & Reflecting)
一、Teaching Aims
1. Students can understand the project tasks (4a-4c) and use the target language to talk about the problems in their class or at school.
2. Students can discuss the problems, find out the reasons why they exist, and write down plans to solve them with the structures "The problem is... / The reason is... / We are going to...".
3. Students can work in groups, make a list of problems and solutions, and prepare a short presentation to share their plans with the whole class.
4. Students can look back on the whole unit and think of ways to improve themselves through the Reflecting part.
二、Key and Difficult Points
Key points: The words and expressions about problems and plans; the structure "be going to" for future plans; the way of talking about "Problems — Reasons — Solutions".
Difficult points: Finding out the real reasons behind the problems; making the solutions clear and possible; presenting the plans in class without reading from the script.
三、Teaching Tools
Textbook (Unit 6, Section B 4a-4c & Reflecting), blackboard and coloured pens, problem cards and phrase cards, the "Problems-Reasons-Solutions" list sheet, presentation task sheet, a simple PPT (optional).
四、Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Lead-in (5 mins)
1. Teacher asks: What problems do we have in our class or at school and writes some of them on the blackboard.
2. Students think of problems and say them out, e.g. Some students throw rubbish everywhere. Third and fourth graders sit on the walls of our school.
[Purpose] To help students think about the real problems around them and warm up the topic words.
Step 2: Group Discussion (4a) (10 mins)
1. Students work in groups and discuss what problems there are in their class or at school.
2. Each group makes a list of the problems and the reasons why they exist, and fills in the table: Problems / Reasons / Solutions.
3. Teacher walks around and helps with the words and the ideas.
[Purpose] To let students find the problems and the reasons together and practise talking about them with the target language.
Step 3: Making Plans (4b) (10 mins)
1. Students talk about what they are going to do to solve the problems.
2. They write down some plans, using "We are going to...".
3. Teacher asks the groups to make their plans clear and possible, not too big.
[Purpose] To help students turn their ideas into real plans and practise "be going to" for future plans.
Step 4: Preparing & Presenting (4c) (12 mins)
1. Each group prepares a short presentation to share its problems and plans with the whole class.
2. One or two students from each group come to the front and present their plans.
3. The class listens carefully and can ask one question after each presentation.
[Purpose] To give students a chance to use the language they have learned to express their ideas and improve their speaking.
Step 5: Reflecting (6 mins)
1. Students look at the five questions in Reflecting and think about their dream job, the expressions for future plans, and their resolutions.
2. Some students share their answers with the class.
3. Teacher sums up the unit: "Dream big, plan well, work hard, smile often, and good things will happen."
[Purpose] To help students review the whole unit and think of ways to improve themselves.
Step 6: Homework (2 mins)
1. Students finish their group presentation and write it down after class.
2. Students write one resolution for themselves and tell how they are going to keep it.
五、Blackboard Design
Unit 6 Project: Make plans for solving problems
Problems → Reasons → Solutions
The problem is... / The reason is... / We are going to...
Dream big, plan well, work hard, smile often.
六、教学反思
本课以"发现问题—分析原因—制定计划—课堂展示"为主线，学生在小组合作中能用 be going to 表达解决问题的打算，基本完成项目任务，也通过 Reflecting 回顾了整单元。存在的问题：部分后进生分析原因时思路较窄，解决方案偏空泛，展示时过于依赖讲稿。改进：下次提供分类词卡（卫生、纪律、学习、设备等）帮学生打开思路，强调方案要写具体、可做的事，并设脱稿展示加分，鼓励学生尽量抬头讲。
