第四部分写作 第二节
Dear Peter,
I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble adapting to senior high school life and feeling anxious. I
can relate to your trouble, as many freshmen have the same experience at the start of high school. Here are
some practical suggestions to help you out.
To begin with, it is highly recommended that you make a reasonable daily schedule. Senior high school
study is far more challenging, so proper time management will greatly enhance your learning efficiency and
prevent you from feeling anxious. Meanwhile, you ought to balance study and relaxation. Taking part in
diverse after-school activities can not only enrich your campus life but also effectively relieve your study
pressure. In addition, when confronted with academic difficulties, you should cultivate a positive attitude
towards setbacks. Never be discouraged by temporary failures. Instead, you can turn to teachers and
classmates for help, which enables you to solve problems more efficiently.
I hope my suggestions will be of great benefit to you. I firmly believe you will spare no effort to
embrace your wonderful teenage life.
Yours sincerely,

Do you have anything you want to share with others Starting a high school club can help you build a
group and connect with like-minded students. Here is a step-by-step guide to get started.
Step 1: Choose Your Club and Set Goals
First, decide the type of club you want to create. Consider whether you are starting a new club,
bringing back an old one, or making a present one bigger. Set clear and achievable goals. For example, if
you want to start a chess club, you may need at least eight members to hold competitions. Knowing your
goal will help you plan well.
Step 2: KnowWho You Want to Join
Think about who might be interested in joining the club. For a math club, students who are good at
STEM subjects are a natural choice, but don’t limit yourself. Students doing well in other fields, such as
drawing and structural (结构的) design, may also provide unique ideas. A clear target group increases the
chances of getting members.
Step 3: Recruit (招募) Members
This is the most important step. You can use several methods:
·Posters: Make eye-catching posters and place them in classrooms, halls, and online.
·Announcements: Ask the school to include your club in daily announcements.
·Club Days: Set up a special place where you students can try things. Fun activities get more attention
than a simple sign.
Step 4: Welcome New Members
Once members join, make them feel included. Plan activities that allow everyone to join in, even
beginners. Members are more likely to stay and help the club do well.
Starting a club needs planning, creativity, and teamwork. Follow these steps, and you can build an
active and growing group in your school and finally enjoy your school life.

Going from middle school to high school can be difficult, as students are faced with new academic (学
业的 ) and social challenges. Before the first day of high school, there are things every soon-to-be high
school freshman and their families should know.
On the one hand, people who have a fixed mindset (思维倾向) believe that they are born to be great or
weak. On the other hand, people that have a growth mindset believe that their greatness or weakness is
because of their own actions. I totally agree that students should have a growth mindset. I don’t expect any
student to move from just passing a subject to an A+. It’s going to take time and focused effort; just keep
working on it.
Parents should prepare students to fight the battle “on the pillow” and “in the kitchen”. When I say
“pillow” I mean sleep. Not having enough sleep can have some surprising effects on students, including
improper behavior, anxiety and poor grades. The second weapon (武器 ) is eating healthy and balanced
meals. Studies show that students who eat nutritious meals and who exercise 60 minutes a day remain more
attentive during the school day and experience improved academic achievement and grades. This last “secret”
weapon is not to have over-scheduled (安排过度的 ) time. Make sure students know how to set realistic
plans and how to say no to tasks and activities that aren’t important to them.
A lot of students know each other from primary and middle school. They are in their “comfort zones”,
feeling that they have a sense of control over and expectation of their relationships. But when the first real
day of high school comes, that will all change. The reason I encourage high school freshmen to step out of
their comfort zones, though often scary, is that comfort zones get boring and there are many kinds of people
to get to know. Let’s encourage them to get involved, have fun and play.
14.Which of the following represents a fixed mindset
A. I’m at the starting point of my potential. B. My mother is not good at chemistry either.
C. I should start studying a little earlier next time. D. It’s okay if I fail; at least I’ve learned something.
15.What might the author encourage parents to do
A. To prepare healthy meals for their kids.
B. To praise their kids when they do well in school.
C. To take their kids to visit their grandparents often.
D. To buy soft pillows for their kids to have a good rest.
16.What is the third weapon mainly about
A. Enjoying good health. B. Owning the ability to say no.
C. Balancing schoolwork and play. D. Developing time management skills.
17.What does the underlined word “that” in the last paragraph refer to
A. The sense of control. B. The value of friendship.

C. The feeling that they have control over relationship. D. The feeling that they become helpless.

Not all classrooms are in school buildings. As we have learned, classrooms can be created almost
anywhere that teachers and learners are able to connect, in person or virtually(虚拟地).
For Danielle Zelin, who teaches on the island of Mauritius, the classroom is in her home, and all around
it. Danielle runs her own school, the Language Mood English Club and as a result, she feels free to take the
curriculum(课程 ) in many directions, and sometimes that means looking right outside. Danielle’s school
started as a club on Saturday mornings, with a focus on storytelling, but she now teaches classes to
individuals and groups, mainly in the afternoons and evenings after school.
“I always know I want to teach,” she said, but it wasn’t always clear that English would be her area of
expertise(专业知识 ). As a teenager growing up in Mauritius, she struggled to see the point of reading
Shakespeare in her English classes. “That English is old,” she told her mother; “I will not use it in my daily
life.” At the time, she much preferred reading French literature.
Years later, though, Danielle saw a performance of The Merchant of Venice, which she had studied in
secondary school, and its power became clear to her. She didn’t have to memorize lines, answer questions,
or analyze for a test; she just enjoyed the play and the performance.
In a sense, that is the spirit that she carries into her current teaching. Her students arrive after a day of
school, often tired, “So my place is more like a fun place to do like an English Adventure—I like to call it
that. We do so many different things together,” she said. She and the students sometimes brainstorm things
they want to study or discuss, and often her students tell her, “We want to connect to the world.” As a result,
they frequently study current events and local issues.
18. What is the function of the first paragraph
A. To lead in the story B. To arouse reader’s interest
C. To show the author’s attitude D. To indicate the background of the story
19. What can be learned about Danielle from paragraph 2
A. She once taught students for free B. She used to have classes on weekdays
C. She set her classroom only at home years ago D. She focused on storytelling in her class before
20. What made Danielle interested in English
A. Shakespeare’s books. B. Her mother’s influence
C. A show of The Merchant of Venice D. Her inner eager to read literature
21. Why are current issues concerned in Danielle’s class
A. Her students want to brainstorm B. Her students want to contact the world.
C. Danielle wants to make her class adventurous D. Danielle wants to carry out her teaching spirits.

Today, friendships can develop between people from different countries or even different time zones.
Social media and online platforms (平台) help people stay connected, no matter where they are. However,

this convenience also has downsides. Traditional friendships usually grow from spending time together in
person, having deep talks, or sharing important experiences. But nowadays online friendships often depend
on short messages, funny pictures (like memes), or quick comments, which don’t create the same strong
bond.
When we chat online, we miss important emotional signals such as tone of voice, facial expressions,
and body language. Psychologist Albert Mehrabian found that these nonverbal(非言语的) signals make up
about 70% of a conversation’s emotional meaning. While emojis (表情符号) and GIFs help fill the gaps,
they’re not enough. Dr. Susan Pinker, a researcher, says that digital friendships can feel shallow because
people tend to focus on information sharing rather than the expression of true feelings.
Meeting friends in person actually makes our brains release dopamine (多巴胺 ), a chemical that
makes us feel happy. Studies show that people who see their friends’ social media posts get 50% less
dopamine than those who meet face-to-face. That’s why online interactions can leave us feeling more tired
than satisfied.
But we don’t have to give up online friendships entirely—we can make them more meaningful. One
idea is using virtual (虚拟的 ) characters that imitate real-life gestures and expressions. Another trend is
“Screen-free Saturdays”, where people take a break from digital devices to focus on real-world connections.
Some friendships, like those among online games, even combine both online and offline interactions—they
play games together virtually and also meet in person when possible.
22.How are online friendships different from traditional ones
A.Online friendships involve deeper emotional connections.
B.Traditional friendships can better connect people globally.
C.Online friendships are based on relatively surface-level communications.
D.Traditional friendships don’t involve as much fun as online friendships.
23.What does the phrase “the gaps” underlined in paragraph 2 refer to
A. Lack of knowledge about digital platforms.
B. Missing emotional signals of emojis and GIFs.
C. Lack of response time during communication.
D. Missing emotional depth in digital conversations.
24.Why do people feel more tired than satisfied after online interactions
A.Because people don’t share true feelings in online interactions.
B.Because online interactions require more energy and brain work.
C.Because online interactions produce less joy-bringing dopamine.
D.Because people never take breaks from digital devices when interacting online.
25.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.The effect of face-to-face meeting on friendships.
B.Ways to improve the quality of online friendships.

C.The decline of traditional friendships in the digital age.
D.Ways to strengthen traditional friendships in the digital age.
