资源简介

Unit 3 My School
Section A 3a-3d
I. Teaching Aims
1. Students can understand the structure "there be" and use "there is" and "there are" to talk about the things in a place.
2. Students can use the prepositions of position, such as in front of, behind, next to, between, across from and in the middle of, to say where a place or a thing is.
3. Students can finish the exercises in 3a-3c and use the target language to describe their own classroom in 3d.
II. Key and Difficult Points
Key points: The structure "there be" and the prepositions of position. Students learn that we use "there is" with a singular noun or an uncountable noun, and "there are" with a plural noun.
Difficult points: Choosing "is" or "are" correctly, and using the prepositions of position in a right way to describe the things in their own classroom.
III. Teaching Tools
The textbook (Student's Book, p.38), the blackboard and some colored pens, word cards, the printed worksheets for 3b and 3c, a dictionary, and a computer with PowerPoint (optional).
IV. Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Lead-in (5 mins)
1. The teacher shows a picture of a classroom and asks, "What can you see in the classroom " Students answer with words they have learnt, such as desk, chair, blackboard and bookcase.
2. The teacher writes some of their answers on the blackboard with "there is / there are" to lead into today's grammar.
[Purpose] To activate the words about school things and get students ready for the new structure.
Step 2: Grammar Focus 3a (8 mins)
1. Students read the sentences in 3a. The teacher asks them to underline the verbs in the "there be" structure and circle the prepositions of position.
2. The teacher writes the example sentences on the blackboard and guides students to find the rules: "Where is the library It is behind the classroom building." "Are there any lockers Yes, there are. / No, there aren't."
3. Students read the sentences aloud together and notice the word order.
[Purpose] To let students observe the sentences by themselves and discover the rules of "there be" and the prepositions.
Step 3: Practice 3b (8 mins)
1. Students complete the six sentences in 3b by themselves, using is / are / isn't / aren't.
2. The teacher checks the answers with the whole class, for example, "Where are the lockers They're next to the reading corner." and "Is there a gym in this school Yes, there is. It's across from the dining hall."
3. The teacher pays special attention to the difference between "there is" and "there are".
[Purpose] To practice the structure in a controlled way and help students use is and are correctly.
Step 4: Prepositions in Context 3c (8 mins)
1. Students look at the photo of the classroom in the UK and read the short description.
2. They circle the correct prepositions to complete it, such as "A screen is in front of the wall" and "A whiteboard is next to the screen."
3. The teacher explains the new words in a simple way and students read the passage again.
[Purpose] To use the prepositions of position in a real text and help students understand the meaning of each preposition.
Step 5: Talk 3d (8 mins)
1. Students work in pairs and talk about how their own classroom is different from the classroom in 3c, for example, "In our classroom, there are some plants next to the teacher's desk."
2. Some pairs share their talk with the class.
[Purpose] To move from the textbook to students' real life and let them use the language to express their own ideas.
Step 6: Summary and Homework (3 mins)
1. The teacher and students go over the rules of "there be" and the prepositions of position together.
2. Homework: Students write five sentences about their own classroom, using "there is / there are" and at least three prepositions of position.
[Purpose] To sum up what we have learnt today and consolidate the target language after class.

六、教学反思
本节课围绕"there be"结构和方位介词展开,多数学生能完成3b、3c的练习,但在3b中仍有部分学生混淆is和are,忘记复数名词要用there are;在3c和3d中,in front of与across from、next to与between容易用错。今后可在板书上画一张简单的方位平面图反复带读,并给后进生提供"In our classroom, there is/are..."的句型支架,先同桌互说再全班分享,要求每人至少说一句完整的英文,帮助他们在真实描述中巩固用法。
