Last August, my family spent a week in a small town by the sea. My father said the sunrise there was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, so on our second morning I got up at half past four.
The streets were dark and quiet. I walked to the beach alone and sat down on a big rock. For a long time nothing happened. The sea was grey, and I began to feel silly. “Maybe I should go back to bed,” I thought.
“Waiting is part of it,” said a voice behind me. An old man with a fishing net was standing there. He told me his name was Uncle Lin, and that he had watched the sunrise here for forty years.
Then the sky turned pink, then orange. A line of gold appeared on the water, and the sun came up slowly, like someone opening a door. I forgot to breathe. Uncle Lin laughed. “Every morning it is a little different,” he said. “That is why I never get tired of it.”
On the way back, he gave me two small shells. “Something to remember the morning,” he said. I still keep them on my desk. When I look at them, I can see that line of gold again, and I remember that some of the best things in life are worth waiting for.

How long is your summer holiday In most Chinese schools it is about two months. But in some countries it is much shorter, and in others it is longer.
In Germany, students have about six weeks off in summer. Many families travel during this time, and some children go to summer camps in the countryside. In Japan, the summer holiday is about forty days. Students usually have a lot of homework, and many of them still go to school for club activities.
Australian students have their long holiday in December and January, because it is summer there. Their holiday lasts about six weeks and covers Christmas and New Year. In Finland, the summer holiday is about ten weeks. Almost everyone goes to a small house near a lake, and children spend their days swimming, fishing and picking berries.
Why are the holidays so different Schools in hot countries often stop in the hottest months, while schools in cold countries stop when the days are long and warm. But whatever the length, one thing is the same: children everywhere need time to rest, to play and to be with their families.

Last summer, I had a holiday I will never forget. I went to a small town by the sea with my parents. We stayed there for five days.
Every morning we got up early and ran on the beach. In the afternoon, I learned to swim in the sea, and my father taught me how to fish. On the last day, we took a boat to a small island and had a picnic under the trees.
The best part was the sunrise. On the second morning, I got up at half past four and waited on a big rock. When the sun came up, the whole sea turned gold. I could not say a word.
This holiday is unforgettable because I was not only happy, but also learned to wait. I hope I can go back there one day.
