Being a good listener is important. When you are at work, it can make you better understand your tasks and help you open your mind. However, the fact is that most people aren’t really listening to another person. Instead, they are actually thinking about what they should say in reply. If you want to know how to be a good listener, read on to get started.
●Give the speaker your full attention. Turn off the TV, your phone or computer. Once you talk face to face, you need to keep your mind quiet and pay attention to what the other person is saying.
●Don’t cut in. Many people have a habit of cutting in and giving out quick opinions before people finish what they are saying. That’s impolite. Listen and save your words until the speaker finishes speaking.
●Let the speaker know you are listening patiently (耐心地). Not everyone is good at speaking. Some people take longer to share their points. “It sounds great.” “What happened next ”… These are useful for keeping the sharing going on.
It takes time to be a good listener. Keep trying every day to put the advice into practice.
16.What are most people doing if they are not really listening according to the passage

On Oct 18, Waverly Middle School held its yearly Mix It Up at Lunch Day. The school invited students from different backgrounds (背景) to sit together and talk.
Mix It Up at Lunch Day is a national event. It usually takes place in the fall during National Bullying Prevention Month. Students are asked to move out of their comfort zones (舒适区) and connect with someone new over lunch. It’s a simple activity for all students. “The idea behind it is simple: Students sit with those they don’t usually talk to to break stereotypes (刻板印象) and meet new people,” said Ivana Nicole Moreno, a 14-year-old who took part in the event at her school last year.
Schools often prepare posters before the day. Moreno remembers how her school used color cards to mix up students at different tables. She ended up next to a girl she often saw but never talked to. “I thought she was too serious,” Moreno said. But after they talked, the girl shared her love for designing clothes. Moreno said she enjoyed decorating them. By the end of lunch, they were drawing clothing ideas on napkins (纸巾). “We started a tiny after-school fashion club,” said Moreno. “Mix It Up at Lunch Day gave me a friend I didn’t know I needed.”

Communicate well with each other
When you’re meeting together, let everyone speak and listen to each other carefully. Ask them questions to get them to talk so that everyone can communicate well with each other.

Copying Nature
A Swiss engineer (工程师) named George de Mestral loved walking in the countryside. One day in 1941, he came home with his socks covered in burrs (苍耳), the seeds of a wild plant. As he pulled them off, he wondered why they stuck (粘住) so tightly. Under a microscope (显微镜), he saw that each burr had hundreds of tiny hooks (钩子). That gave him an idea. He made two strips of fabric (织物)—one with hooks and one with loops—and called his invention Velcro. Today it is used on shoes, bags and even spacesuits.
Velcro is only one example of copying nature. Scientists call this idea biomimicry: looking at how living things solve problems, and then doing the same thing with human materials.
Sharks are among the fastest swimmers in the sea, but their skin is not smooth—it is covered with tiny tooth-like scales (鳞片). These scales make the water move faster over the skin, so sharks can slide through it with less effort. Copying this design, engineers made a special swimsuit fabric that helps swimmers cut through the water. It worked so well that the suit was later banned (禁用) from Olympic races.
Another famous example comes from Japan. The Shinkansen, one of the world’s fastest bullet trains, used to make a loud bang when it entered a tunnel (隧道). A young engineer who was a bird-watcher studied the kingfisher (翠鸟). This small bird dives into water to catch fish without a splash, because its long, pointed beak changes the air around it smoothly. The engineer redesigned (重新设计) the train’s nose to copy the kingfisher’s beak. The new train is not only quieter but also faster and uses less electricity.
Nature has had millions of years to test its inventions. As one scientist put it, “Why start from nothing when the answer is already swimming, flying or growing beside us ”
27.What is the article mainly about
A.How animals protect themselves.
B.How scientists learn from nature.

C.protecting wild animals D.making tiny hooks
29.Why was the special swimsuit banned from Olympic races
A.It was too expensive. B.It made swimmers tired.
C.It was bad for sharks. D.It gave swimmers too much help.
30.What is special about the Shinkansen’s new nose
A.It was designed by a bird-watcher’s father.
B.It makes the train much slower.
C.It copied the shape of a kingfisher’s beak.
D.It uses more electricity than before.
