All of us may have embarrassing experiences. Maybe you spelled a simple word wrong in class, or talked
about someone else without realizing that they were right behind you.
These embarrassing memories come back from time to time and can make us feel upset. Even if these events
may have passed, we would always remember the feeling of strong embarrassment later. ▲ When these
kinds of feelings return, they are known as a “cringe attack (羞愧综合征)”.
I personally get quite an uncomfortable feeling when I think back on a party my parents took me to when I
was younger. I ate a bowl of strawberries by myself. My parents shouted at me in front of everyone for being so
selfish. From then on, every time I put a strawberry into my mouth, my brain just throws that embarrassing
moment back.
Why do these “cringe attacks” still pop up in our daily lives even though the events happened weeks,
months, or even years ago? According to researchers, our brains pay special attention to feelings that can be
easily noticed. The stronger the feeling is, the stronger the memory will be.
So how can we deal with it? Well, we can start by trying to be more objective (客观的) about our past
events. In fact, you are not alone in your embarrassment, because everyone may fail or make silly, embarrassing
mistakes. Instead of just trying to forget what we did, we should try to accept who we were at that time and think
about how we can change for the better.
( ) 26.How does the writer start the passage?

A. Luckily, these feelings won’t remain for long.
B. In fact, these feelings may last for years.
C. It is time to learn to forget.
D. Don’t be afraid of the feeling.
( ) 28. What do the underlined words “pop up” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Appear suddenly. B. Change greatly.
C. Hide quietly. D. Disappear secretly.
( ) 29. What can we do to deal with embarrassing events?
A. Speak them out. B. Just forget about them.
C. Try to improve ourselves. D. Compare them with others’.
( ) 30. What is the purpose of the passage?
A. To recall embarrassing experiences.
B. To discuss whether the embarrassing feeling is bad for us.
C. To introduce the way the brain works.
D. To help people understand “cringe attacks” better.

Have you ever watched crows (乌鸦) in your neighborhood? Scientists have 36 that these black
birds have very good memories. They can remember human faces for many years.
In a 2024 study, researchers wore different masks to catch some crows. Later, whenever scientists wore the

A. 回答问题 (本题共 5小题, 每小题 2分, 共 10分)
When Marie Curie was a young student in Poland, she faced many difficulties. Books were not easy to get,
and she often had to study in poor conditions. At first, she had trouble remembering all the scientific terms (术
语) and rules. But instead of giving up, she developed smart learning and memory techniques that helped her
become one of the greatest scientists in history.
Curie was very good at active learning. She did not simply read textbooks—she took careful notes by hand
and wrote key ideas in her own words. This made her think deeply about what she learned. She also tested herself
regularly, a method we call “self-testing”. By doing so, she discovered which parts she didn’t truly understand.
To remember much information, Curie used a method of imagining things in her mind. For example, she
would imagine atoms (原子) as tiny systems moving in her mind. She also connected new knowledge with
things she already knew—a powerful memory technique called “linking”. Before going to bed, she reviewed the
day’s lessons, knowing that sleep helps improve memories.
Marie Curie once said, “We don’t need to fear anything in life, instead, we need to understand it.” Her
journey from a student who had difficulties in learning to a two-time Nobel Prize winner shows us that the right
methods can change everything. If we learn actively and use our memory wisely, we can achieve great things too.
46. Where did Marie Curie study as a young student?
47. What trouble did she have remembering at first?
48. How did she remember much information?
49. Which memory technique did she use to connect new knowledge, self-testing or linking?
50. When did she review her lessons?

B. Dear teachers and students,
I’m Li Ming. I’m glad to share how I changed my learning. I used to face two
problems. First, I couldn’t remember English words. Besides, I often mixed up
different rules and forgot the steps.
However, Marie Curie’s story taught me that difficulties are not the end, so I
decided to take action. To improve my learning, I started taking key word notes
instead of writing everything down. On the other hand, I set learning goals every
week. As for memory,I started drawing colourful mind maps that connect key ideas.
Let’s face our problems bravely and learn wisely!
Thank you!
