Online shopping is popular these days. With a phone, you can buy almost anything—food, clothes, books and even fridges. The parcel arrives at your door in a day or two. It saves time and lets you compare prices easily.
But physical shops are not disappearing. Many people still enjoy shopping in real stores. In a supermarket, you can touch the vegetables, smell the bread and try on the shoes. You can also try the clothes on before you buy them, which you can never do online. Children love running around the shop with their parents. Shops are also places to meet friends — a cup of coffee in a café is hard to get online.
Some stores are changing too. Bookshops now hold reading parties. Clothing shops invite customers to small shows. They want people to enjoy the experience, not just buy things.
In my eyes, online shopping and physical shops will live side by side. One saves time, the other brings joy. Maybe in ten years, every shop will have both a real store and an online shop. Why not choose both and enjoy different ways of shopping

2.What advantages does online shopping have according to Paragraph 1

5.What do you prefer, online shopping or real shops Give one example and explain.

Have you ever got lost in a new city Ten years ago, people had to ask others for directions or look at paper maps. Today, most of us just open an online map app on our phones.
Online maps are really helpful. You type in the place you want to go, and the app shows you several routes. It tells you how long each route takes, so you can choose the fastest one. It can also show bus stops and train stations nearby. Some apps even tell you when the next bus will come.
However, online maps are not always perfect. Sometimes the information is out of date. A road may be closed, or a new building may not appear on the map. In this case, you should check the road signs or ask a local person for help. You can also report the problem, so the app company can fix it in time.
Besides, some old people find the apps hard to use because the words are too small. To solve this, many apps now have a “voice mode”. You just speak, and the map talks back to you.
Technology is making our travels easier and easier.

When Gulikiz Igarbedi was young, she was haunted (困扰) by one question: When will girls be able to play football as freely as boys in Xinjiang
“When I was a student, people around me always told me that football was not suitable for girls. Among the 77 students in my class, just seven were girls, and I was the only one of those to play football,” she recalled.
During her college years, Gulikiz tried hard to find female (女性) partners to play with. She would wait for a chance to practise by herself only after the boys had stopped playing.
But change is in the air. Her love for the game led her to pursue (追求) a job as a PE teacher in a middle school in Hotan Prefecture (辖区). Gulikiz is the coach of a girls’ football team. The team is made up of 27 girls, and many more are looking forward to joining. She said that her early years working in the school met plenty of challenges, but she never gave up. She wanted to see more girls in the playground.
“In the past, girls were quite shy about having PE classes with boys. However, it’s quite different now. I’m so happy,” she explained. According to Gulikiz, almost every school in Hotan Prefecture has set up a girls’ football team.

On 25 September 2017, the scientific world was shaken by the news that Chinese professor Zhong Yang had died in a car accident. The well-respected biologist had spent his whole life researching plants and seeds. Over the years, he collected many important seeds for China’s seed banks.
Zhong Yang was born in 1964. When he was young, he showed a deep love and curiosity for the things he studied. He was an excellent student, entering university at the early age of 15. There, he studied radio engineering and later became interested in plants. The research and study of plants, especially the seeds, became the focus of his life after he became a professor at Fudan University.
It’s important for seed banks to include many different kinds of seeds. There was not enough research of the seeds from Xizang, so he went there to collect seeds himself. It was very difficult for him to brave the cold weather and great heights. He sometimes fell sick, but he always continued with his work.
Zhong Yang knew it was better to include more people when doing important work. He began a program to find and train local students in field research to become scientists. Together, he and his team collected more than 40 million seeds from around 1,000 plants. Their hard work provided the world with lots of new information about the plants in China.

The night before an exam, many students sit at their desks until midnight. They read again and again, hoping to put everything into their memory at once. But does it really work
Scientists say last-minute cramming is a bad way. When you study all night, your brain is tired. A tired brain cannot keep new things well. You may remember something at night, but in the exam room the next day, it may be gone.
What is the better way It is called spaced review. Instead of studying for five hours at one time, study for twenty minutes every day. Review the new words on day one, then again on day three, and on day seven. Each short review makes the memory stay longer.
You can also use small breaks well. Read your notes on the bus, or tell what you learned to a friend. Teaching others is a great way to remember.
Remember: a little every day beats a lot in one night. Start your review today, and tomorrow you will be thanking yourself.

At Greenhill School, Grade 9 students made a “Then and Now” wall. Lily put up two photos: one of a little girl hiding behind her mother, and one of a student hosting the English festival.
“I used to be terrified of microphones,” she wrote. “Last month, I asked a visitor politely: ‘Could you please tell me how you practice pronunciation ’ That question changed me. I realized polite English is not just grammar — it is a bridge.”
Other students wrote about their hometowns: old narrow paths → wide sidewalks; small village shop → supermarket with a reading corner. A boy wrote, “I didn’t use to drink milk. Now I do, and I’m taller. But some things stay: grandma’s dumplings, the old tree, and our Sunday walk.”

Grandpa Chen is 82. His family often laughs because he puts the remote control in the fridge, or calls his dog by the cat’s name. But his granddaughter Meiling says, “Grandpa’s memory is like an old library—some cards are missing, but the best books are still there.”
Meiling studies psychology at school. She explains that memory is not a camera. A camera records everything in front of it; a brain chooses. It keeps what has meaning, feeling or repetition. That is why Grandpa Chen cannot remember what he ate on Monday, but he can still recite a poem his teacher taught him in 1958.
To help him, the family made a “memory board” in the hallway. On it are big photos: Grandma’s birthday, Meiling’s school sports day, the old house where he grew up. Under each photo is one sentence. When Grandpa stands there, the board acts like a key—it opens the door to his long-term memory.
They also use senses. Meiling plays his favourite old songs while they fold clothes. The smell of jasmine tea, the sound of the erhu, the touch of old photographs—all these “sense hooks” bring back stories he has not told for years.
Meiling writes in her diary: “Memory is not only storing facts. It is keeping love. When we help Grandpa remember, we are not fixing a machine. We are walking back into his world with him.”

Having a good memory is the key to learning effectively. But if you’ve ever found it hard to remember information even after reading your notes repeatedly, perhaps you’re not studying in the best way.
While there are many methods that can help you remember better, the most effective ones involve making meaningful connections between pieces of information. This idea is called the “baker paradox (悖论)”, and it was proved in an experiment.
In the experiment, researchers divided people into two groups and showed them a photo of a man’s face. The first group was told the man’s name was Baker, while the second group was told the man worked as a baker. A few days later, researchers asked both groups about the man’s identity (身份).
The result was surprising. People remembered the man’s job more easily than his name, even though both words were the same. Why did this happen After all, the word “baker” was the same for both people.
Here’s the reason. When you hear that someone works as a baker, your mind connects this fact to a network of meaningful ideas. You might picture someone baking bread, wearing a tall white hat, or smelling freshly baked goods. These connections create a story in your brain, making the information easier to recall.
In fact, the name “Baker” doesn’t form the same kind of meaningful connections. It’s only linked to the man’s face, which is a weak connection. If you forget the face, you may also forget the name completely.
The “baker paradox” shows that memory works best when new information is tied to meaningful stories or images. So, if you want to remember something better, try linking it to a story or something familiar. This simple trick can make all the difference.

Last week, our school held a Memory Week. Students shared their best ways to remember things. Wang Lin said she remembered new words by making sentences. Zhou Tao drew pictures for difficult words. Li Mei, a music lover, turned her grammar rules into songs. “I sing them on the way to school, and I never forget them,” she said. The teachers were surprised at the students’ ideas. The winner of the week was a boy named Chen Hao. He taught the whole school his “story method”: put every new word into a short story. “A story is like a box. It holds the words together,” he said. The school has decided to hold Memory Week every term. Teachers hope that students will keep using these useful methods in their daily study.

Memory is important for our study and life. Many students want to improve their memory. Here is some useful advice.
First, when you learn new things, try to connect them with what you know. It helps your brain build links. Second, retell what you learn after study. It helps information become long term memory. Third, enough sleep is necessary. Your brain needs sleep to store information.
Forgetting is normal. Nobody can remember all things forever. If you forget something, don’t feel worried. Keep practicing and use good methods. Your memory can be improved little by little.

I still remember the sweet smell of osmanthus flowers (桂花) from my childhood. Every autumn, when the osmanthus tree in our yard bloomed, the whole house smelt wonderful.
My grandmother loved osmanthus flowers very much. She was always worried that the wind or rain would blow the flowers away. So, when the flowers were ready, our family had a special activity: shaking the osmanthus tree! My brother and I would help my grandmother shake the tree. The tiny yellow flowers would fall down like rain. We laughed and got covered in the “flower rain”. It was one of my happiest childhood memories.
After we collected the flowers, my grandmother worked very hard. She cleaned them and dried them in the sun. Then, she stored them in a little box. She used these flowers to make delicious food. She made sweet osmanthus cake and even put some in tea. The smell meant warmth and love to me.
Now, I live in a big city. There are many osmanthus trees in the parks here. The flowers smell sweet too. But every time I smell them, I think of my grandmother and our old yard. I once brought some city osmanthus flowers to my grandmother. She smelt them and said, “These flowers are nice, but they are not like the ones from our tree.”
I understand now. It’s not just about the smell, but about the memories. It’s about family, love, and the happy times of childhood. That special smell will always remind me of home.

This term, students and teachers in some junior high schools have seen some changes. These changes happened because AI tools stepped into classes.
By using AI to make personalized (个性化的) exercises and exams, teachers are able to help each student in different ways.
When students finish a unit, teachers can pick up different questions online offered by AI. It helps create a set of exercises for the unit. Doing this can make students learn knowledge better. “We don’t need to carry all the heavy exercise books anymore,” said 14-year-old Sophia.
After students complete the exercise questions, teachers use the AI tool to check their answers. It will provide data and graphics (图表) to help teachers understand both the performance of the whole class and each student’s progress. “Our teacher no longer explains all the questions one by one. Instead, she looks at the common mistakes and provides one-on-one help for every one of us,” said 15-year-old Emily.
Also, depending on their performance in past exams, students can get personalized exercises or homework made by AI. So students can spend less time on what they have already known and have more time to study what they don’t know.
“I used to have a notebook where I wrote down my mistakes so that I could study them,” said 16-year-old Jennifer. “But now, AI does it for me.”

Have you ever heard of a seed bank A seed bank is a place where seeds are kept safely for the future. It is important for seed banks to include many different kinds of seeds. Why If a kind of plant dies out, its seeds in the bank can still be used to grow it again.
Seed banks also help fight hunger. In some parts of the world, bad weather and diseases destroy crops every year. With seeds from the banks, farmers can plant again and produce food.
Zhong Yang, a biology professor, worked for seed collection for sixteen years. He and his team collected about forty million seeds, including over four thousand kinds of plants.
