Have you ever seen or used a saw, or ju in Chinese Do you know who invented it
The inventor was Lu Ban. He was born in the state of Lu in ancient China more than 2,500 years ago. That is where Qufu lies in the east of Jining.
Lu Ban was the greatest carpenter (木匠) in his time. Once the king asked him and his team to build a palace in a very short time. They would be punished if they missed the deadline They had only axes to cut the trees and prepare the wood for the palace, so the work went very slowly.
One day Lu Ban rushed up the hill to see how things were going. Suddenly the sharp teeth of a leaf cut his hand. Then a bright idea came into his head. Soon he made a tool with teeth along the side of a long iron bar (条状物). With this tool, work became much faster, and they completed the work before the deadline.
That is how the saw was invented.

Mr. Zhou’s room is crowded but never untidy. On the shelves, there are boxes of screws, old handles, three kinds of glue and a jar of buttons. He can tell you the story of every object in the room—where it came from and what it was used for. A broken lamp on the top shelf, for example, was left by a family who moved away in 2009; he keeps it because “the switch is still the best one I have ever seen”.
He does not advertise. People find him because a neighbor says, “Go and see Mr. Zhou.” He repairs umbrellas, kettles (水壶), wooden chairs, zips and toys. For children he asks nothing: a repaired toy is “payment enough”, he says. For adults he asks a small price for the parts.
Once I asked him why he did not throw broken things away and buy new ones. He put down his screwdriver (螺丝刀) and said, “New things are cheap now. But when you repair something, you have to understand how it works. That is the part I like.”
Last year, our neighborhood asked him to move to a bigger shop near the gate. He said that a shop with a big window would be nice, but that he would have to learn the names of a hundred new neighbors, and he was too old for that. He refused. “If I move,” he said, “the old people will have to walk further, and the children will not come.” His door has no sign. Everyone in the block knows which one it is. I think that is the best address in our neighborhood.

Teamwork makes the dream work — or does it Group projects are widely used in schools. When a teacher asks students to work in groups, some students feel excited. Others may not be so happy. They bring both advantages and trouble for students. Group projects can help students learn to work effectively with others. Students in a group might learn at different speeds. This also brings problems. Different young learners hold different opinions on this topic.
Some students believe group projects are helpful. Shaiyar, a 12-year-old reporter, says such projects improve social skills. Students communicate with partners, make new friends and make full use of each person’s strengths. Besides, group projects can also help students develop leadership skills. Leonardo, 13 years old, also supports group work. “Two heads are better than one.” He thinks teamwork pushes students out of their own little world and helps them understand different munication skills are useful real-world skills.
However, others have different ideas. Nine-year-old Rosalie dislikes group projects. She finds that usually only one or two students control the whole task, leaving others out. Students may argue about duties. As a result, some students feel upset and learn little. Instead, students could learn how to work together in activities like theater or sports, outside of the classroom. Harlem, aged 11, agrees that group work can be stressful. Though it teaches cooperation and problem-solving, it also causes disagreement. Studies have shown that these disagreements can lead to increased stress. He suggests teachers should divide tasks clearly and teach students ways to deal with stress, or they’d better not set group projects.
So, are group projects good for students There is no simple answer. Group projects have both bright sides and weaknesses. Whether they work well depends on proper guidance from teachers and good cooperation among group members.
33.According to Paragraph 2, which of the following advantages is mentioned by both Shaiyar and Leonardo
A.Improving students’ communication abilities.
B.Helping students understand different views.
C.Making full use of each student’s strengths.
D.Developing students’ leadership skills.

A.She thinks teachers should give more guidance while dividing the tasks.

Bees are important in nature. But can a little bee make a big difference to our life Maybe yes! Now there are flying robots that look like real bees—BionicBee
Scientists created them by learning how real bees fly. These robots fly by moving their wings. A small motor (电机) inside makes the wings move quickly up and down. This helps the robots rise into the air. With the help of AI, these robots can also turn and fly in different directions.
They can help us in many ways. After earthquakes (地震), people may get trapped (被困) under buildings. Rescuers (救援者) can’t go inside narrow (狭窄的) spaces to search for them, but BionicBee can. With cameras (相机), the bees take photos and send them back to rescuers. The photos show where the trapped people are, so they can get help faster.
BionicBee can help farmers too. When there are not enough real bees, these robots can help pollinate (授粉) flowers. This helps plants grow better and make farmers’ work easier. After finishing their work, the robots can even find their way back on their own.
However, there is still a long way to go for the robots. ▲ Usually, a larger battery carries more energy. It can help BionicBee fly longer, but its weight makes BionicBee fly harder.
Scientists are now working on the problem. They plan to use sunlight to charge (充电) the batteries. Whenever there is sunlight, the batteries can get energy again. With this new way, BionicBee will bring us more surprises in the future.

A.A camera. B.AI arm. C.A small motor. D.A real bee’s help.
38.What can BionicBee do according to the passage
①Make a call to the rescuers.
②Search people in narrow spaces.
③Water the flowers on their own.
④Help farmers pollinate flowers.

39.Which sentence can be put in ▲
A.The battery size affects their looks.
B.Large batteries can make them fly higher.
C.The battery size affects their flying time.
D.Small batteries can make them fly farther.
40.What can we infer from the passage
A.BionicBee doesn’t need batteries to work.
B.BionicBee can create more energy for people.
C.BionicBee can work for a long time in the future.
D.BionicBee can find the way back home by themselves.

第二段中Shaiyar的相关表述提到“Students communicate with partners, make new friends and make full use of each person’s strengths.”,指出小组项目能帮助学生和伙伴交流、提升社交能力;第二段中Leonardo的相关表述提到“Communication skills are useful real-world skills.”,也点明了沟通技能的实用性,二人都提到了小组项目对提升学生沟通能力的作用。
第三段Rosalie的相关表述提到“She finds that usually only one or two students control the whole task, leaving others out”,少数人主导导致其他人被排除在外,能推断出她曾在小组合作中被忽视。
全文开篇就抛出了“Teamwork makes the dream work—or does it Group projects are widely used in schools.”的疑问,中间分别阐述了支持和反对小组项目的不同观点,最后一段又以“So, are group projects good for students There is no simple answer.”

第二段指出:“A small motor inside makes the wings move quickly up and down.”,说明是内部的小电机使得翅膀上下快速移动。
第三段提到:“Rescuers can’t go inside narrow spaces to search for them, but BionicBee can.”,说明它能在狭窄空间搜寻被困人员(②);第四段提到:“When there are not enough real bees, these robots can help pollinate flowers.”,说明它能帮助农民给花朵授粉(④)。
空缺处后文解释道:“Usually, a larger battery carries more energy. It can help BionicBee fly longer, but its weight makes BionicBee fly harder.”,这说明电池的大小既影响飞行时间(更大电量飞得更久),又因为重量影响飞行难度。因此填入“The battery size affects their flying time.(电池大小影响它们的飞行时间。)”
最后一段提到:“They plan to use sunlight to charge the batteries...Whenever there is sunlight, the batteries can get energy again.”,说明科学家计划利用阳光为电池充电,这将让BionicBee能够获得持续的能量补给,从而推断出它未来能工作更长时间。注意区分选项D为原文提到的信息(第四段“the robots can even find their way back on their own”),不属于推断。

Open Our Hearts and Grow Together
Many of us may have trouble accepting ourselves. I used to be upset about myself. I was shy and worried about my shortcomings. I even had difficulty getting along with classmates. Later, I realized everyone has weak points. I started to accept who I truly am.
When I accepted myself, I found better ways to get on with classmates. First, respect others’ different ideas. Second, listen carefully when they talk. It helps us make more true friends. Besides, we can learn new skills from each other.
I learn accepting ourselves and respecting others brings warmth. If we open our hearts, we grow better together.
