Writing poetry can seem frightening. However, with the right inspiration and approach, you can write a poem that you can be proud to share with others in class or with your friends.
A poem might start as a piece of a verse,a line or two that seems to come out of nowhere,or an image you cannot get out of your head. You can find inspiration for your poem by doing writing exercises and using the world around you.Once you have inspiration, you can then shape your thoughts into a poem.
You may also be inspired by going for a walk in your neighbourhood or to your favourite spot in the city. You may observe people on a park bench or in a public square and use moments from your observations as the inspiration for a poem. You could try writing a poem about a person who is important to you in your life, such as your mother or your best friend. You could use the person as inspiration for your poem.
You can start your poem by focusing on a specific theme or idea that you find attractive or interesting.Picking a specific theme or idea to focus on in the poem can give your poem a clear goal or point. This can make it easier for you to limit what images and descriptions you are going to use in your poem. For example, you may decide to write a poem around the theme of “Love and Friendship”.You may then think about specific moments in your life when you experienced love and friendship as well as how you would characterise love and friendship based on your relationships with others.
There are many different poetic forms that you can use, from free verse to sonnets to rhyming couplets. You may go for a poetic form that you find easy to use, such as free verse,or a form that you find more challenging, such as sonnets.Choose one poetic form and stick to that structure to make your poem coherent(连贯的) for your readers.

A.Someone who tries to write a poem the first time.
B.Someone who dislikes the structures of poems.
C.Someone who wants his or her poems coherent.

( )27.What does this passage mainly talk about

New psychology research points to the factors that explain why we find particular poems aesthetically (美学上) pleasing.“While it may seem obvious that individual taste matters in judgments of poetry,we found certain factors consistently influence how much a poem will be enjoyed.”
Aesthetics, the basis of what we find appealing or not, play an important role in our everyday lives. However, little is known about how we make these judgments. The researchers sought to answer an age-old question “Why do we like what we like ” by measuring what we find aesthetically pleasing in poetry.
To do this, the team had more than 400 participants read and rate poems of two genres—haiku and sonnet—with the aim of understanding the factors that best predicted the aesthetic appeal of the poems. After reading each poem, participants rated it on four dimensions: vividness (e.g.,“How vivid was the imagery ”),emotional arousal (“How relaxing or stimulating ”),emotional valence (“How positive or negative ”),and aesthetic appeal (“How enjoyable did you find this poem ”).
Their results showed that the vividness of mental imagery was the best predictor of aesthetic appeal—poems that evoked greater imagery were more pleasing.Emotional valence also predicted aesthetic appeal, though to a lesser extent; specifically, poems that were found to be more positive were generally found to be more appealing.By contrast, emotional arousal did not have a clear relationship to aesthetic appeal.
“The vividness of a poem consistently predicted its aesthetic appeal,” notes Starr, author of Feeling Beauty: The Neuroscience of Aesthetic Experience.“Therefore,it seems that vividness of mental imagery may be a key factor influencing what we like more broadly.” “While limited to poetry,” she adds,“our work sheds light on which factors most influence our aesthetic judgments and paves the way for future research investigating how we make such judgments in other fields.”
( )28.What did the researchers ask the participants to do
A.Write the aesthetic appeal of poems.
B.Evaluate poems of haiku and sonnet.
C.Explain factors of emotional valence.
D.Ask questions about the poem’s vividness.
( )29.What can we know from Paragraph 4
A.Poems with more negative content are more appealing.
B.Emotional arousal is negatively related to aesthetic appeal.
C.Emotional valence is the most important predictor of aesthetic appeal.
D.The vividness of mental imagery has the strongest connection with aesthetic appeal.
( )30.What does Starr agree with
A.The finding is only applicable to poetry.
B.The research has little value for understanding aesthetics.
C.Emotional valence should be further studied in other art forms.
D.The research will help explore aesthetic judgments in other fields.
( )31.What is the main purpose of the text
A.To introduce different types of poems.
B.To discuss the importance of aesthetics.
C.To show the findings of aesthetic appeal.
D.To persuade people to admire the poems.

Sometimes, the best thing for a penguin is to go with the flow.Magellanic penguins change their strategies for navigating home based on the strength of ocean currents: Swimming almost straight back to their colonies (栖息地) in calm waters, but following currents when they are strong—travelling farther but conserving energy, researchers report in a famous journal.
From September to February,Magellanic penguins raise their young in coastal colonies along the shores of Chile and Argentina.Adult penguins travel more than 100 kilometres in one trip to find small fish to feed their babies.Such long ocean journeys require not only a keen sense of direction but skills in negotiating ocean currents, which can either aid movement—like how sea turtles use currents for migration—or sweep animals off course. While penguins can swim against strong currents, study coauthor Wilson notes that it’s not wise: “Why catch all that fish just to waste energy swimming against the current ”
To uncover their strategies,Wilson and colleagues monitored 27 adult penguins from Argentina’s San Lorenzo colony using navigation systems and movement trackers under varying current conditions. After nearly 30 hours of fishing, their return trips—lasting up to 16 hours—always began with the penguins pointing directly toward their colonies, but their following path depended on the day’s ocean conditions.
In calm waters, they maintained a nearly straight line. However,in strong currents, they adopted s-shaped paths following the area’s natural current patterns. As currents changed direction during their journey, they avoided being carried too far off course. These longer trips not only provided extra fishing opportunities but saved energy, according to calculations of the effort required to swim at specific speeds.
This behaviour suggests penguins assess current strength and direction to select the best navigation strategies.Their ability likely originates from a mix of instinct—genetically built rough guides to the sea—and learning, with young penguins observing and copying adult behaviour to refine their skills.
( )32.How does the author present the phenomenon in the first paragraph
A.By quoting a report.
B.By defining a term.
C.By giving examples.
D.By comparing data.
( )33.What determines the penguins’ subsequent navigation path according to the research
A.The distance of fishing trips.
B.The conditions of daily currents.
C.The effort required to swim.
D.The length of fishing time.
( )34.What does the author try to illustrate by mentioning “s-shaped paths” in Paragraph 4
A.The method of avoiding strong currents.
B.The consequence of wasting energy.
C.The strategy of adjusting to strong currents.
D.The opportunity for extra fishing.
( )35.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Ocean Currents: Keys to Penguin Survival
B.Magellanic Penguins: Masters of Long Trips
C.Ocean Currents: Calm Tides and Roaring Surges
D.Magellanic Penguins: Smart Current Navigators

Susan wasn’t doing well enough at school before,or at least she wasn’t confident about herself. She wished she could do better here in her new school.
“Who would like to present your understanding of the poem ” Mr Lee,the literature teacher, looked around the classroom.Susan lowered her head to avoid the teacher’s eyes. She was afraid to be laughed at if she made a mistake.
“Kara ” the teacher asked instead.Oh,perfect,Susan raised her head a bit.Of course Kara got the answer right again.Everyone clapped their hands, and Susan gave a quick look at Kara with admiration.Kara noticed her and gave back her a smile.Susan felt warm.
Soon, sadness filled Susan’s heart again. She hadn’t made any friends of her own so far.She felt so lonely that she really hoped someone like Kara would come up and call her a friend. Also, how she wished she were Kara, who was the most popular girl in school—always surrounded by her best friends and others.Kara was like shining sunshine.
Then, still in the class, some old memories crossed Susan’s mind.Growing up on a farm near a big forest,Susan lived every day to the fullest on the farm with Grandpa, fishing in the river, setting a campfire, climbing the tallest trees and making friends with the lovely creatures in the forest. Grandpa would hug her and call her “my sunshine”.The old man was always proud of his little girl and Susan was sure she was the queen of the forest. She smiled at all her thoughts.
Literature class finally ended, and all the students headed for the gym.The class had been playing basketball.Kara,of course, was the best player.Beside her,Susan felt very small and awkward.Today, however, the gym teacher led the students to a big tree in the yard and said, “Everyone! You’re going to climb this tree today.Just try your best.” Hearing the teacher’s words,Susan’s eyes lit up.
Many of the classmates tried but failed, including Kara. Then came her turn.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Paragraph 1:
Susan stepped forward and got close to the tree.
Paragraph 2:
With everyone cheering for her skillful climb and interesting stories,Kara came up.核心素养提升(UNIT 5)

M:Hi,Sharon.I had no idea it would take so much time.It sure makes it difficult to prepare for final exams. How about you
W:I am lucky. There seems to be a shortage of high school teachers now.I applied to three schools, and each one offered me a position.
M:That’s great.Which one do you like
W:I haven’t decided yet.Of course,it would be easier for me to stay here in New York or go back home to Boston. But I may go to California.
M:That would be a big move.
W:So,tell me about your plans.
M:Well,I applied to six newspapers. But I think they’re looking for people with some experience. And it seems that everyone wants to be a writer these days. There just aren’t that many jobs out there.
W:That’s too bad.
M:Yes.I had hoped to have a job lined up by graduation. That doesn’t seem possible now.
W:What will you do if you can’t find a job
M:In that case,I’ll begin working on a master’s degree in the fall.
W:Good luck!
(Text 10)
When I was twenty-five,I decided to leave England and travel to Africa.I went with my best friend, the biologist David Attenborough. We had both spent five years at university, and we had just graduated. The plan was simple.Since I was a writer and he was a biologist,I would write about our experiences, and he would study the different animals we saw along the way. First,we stopped in Egypt. We visited the famous pyramids, rode camels, and saw crocodiles in the Nile River. After that,we went to Kenya, where we had a chance to feed giraffes from the tallest trees. Then we went to Tanzania and camped in a small village. The locals there took us to see some rare animals.Last,we ended our trip in Madagascar. There,we saw an animal that I’d never seen before.I bet my friend $50 that it was a monkey, but after a quick Internet search,I learnt I was wrong.Never make a bet about animals with a biologist! When we arrived back home,I went to see David’s publisher.I showed him everything I had written about our journey. He said that he would publish it in the next National Geographic magazine!

A.Inspiration is everywhere around us.
B.We can be encouraged by love and friendship.

( )26.Who would most probably try writing a sonnet
A.Someone who tries to write a poem the first time.
B.Someone who dislikes the structures of poems.
C.Someone who wants his or her poems coherent.
D.Someone who wants to try a difficult form of poetry.

A.By quoting a report.
B.By defining a term.
