Zach Smith, an 18-year-old senior at Dwight-Englewood School in New Jersey, had a problem. “I was not happy with my school’s learning system (系统) , and so were my friends,” Zach said. “So I thought I could design an app (应用程序) that would bring together your homework and everything you need all in one place to make it easy for students to stay organized.”
That idea of creating My DE+ put Zach on a journey that would find him learning the finer points of UX design, working with coding platforms (编程平台) and, importantly, getting the-confidence and trust of the teachers at the school.
“I started with Figma, just prototyping (制作原型) what the app would look like. I met with my head teacher at school and showed him the design. He was like, ‘Whoa, that looks very cool! How do we get this in our school?’ And I don’t think he realized it was just a design. So now I had to get to work building the app,” Zach said.
At first, Zach was considering teaching himself how to code. That’s when he discovered Adalo. Zach was able to create a working prototype. The next question was how to get it on the phones of 500 students in the school. Zach used a business platform called Make. And he changed it and sent everyone a message.” I met with every grade at the school and showed them how to get the app. After a month I had 500 users on the app, which is almost my whole school,” Zach explained.
Zach now has been talking with other heads of technology of schools in New York City and adding all kinds of new functions (功能) like community pages.” In terms of what comes next, I really hope my app can be used in other schools. I just love it when I can see an idea in my head, and follow it through from start to finish.”

Some people think that success is only for those with talent or those who grow up in the right family, and others believe that success mostly comes down to luck. I’m not going to say luck, talent, and circumstances don’t come into play because they do. Some people are born into the right family while others are born with great intelligence, and that’s just the reality of how life is.
However,to succeed in life, one first needs to set a goal and then gradually make it more practical. And,in addition to that,in order to get really good at something, one needs to spend at least 10,000 hours studying and practicing. To become great at certain things,it’ll require even more time, time that most people won’t put in.
This is a big reason why many successful people advise you to do something you love. If you don’t enjoy what you do ,it is going to feel like unbearable pain and will likely make you quit well before you ever become good at it.
When you see people exhibiting some great skills or having achieved great success, you know that they have put in a huge part of their life to get there at a huge cost. It’s sometimes easy to think they got lucky or they were born with some rare talent, but thinking that way does you no good, and there’s a huge chance that you’re wrong anyway.
Whatever you do,if you want to become great at it, you need to work day in and day out, almost to the point of addiction, and over a long period of time.If you’re not willing to put in the time and work, don’t expect to receive any rewards.Consistent, hard work won’t guarantee you the level of success you may want, but it will guarantee that you will become really good at whatever it is you put all that work into.
36. Paragraph 1 mainly talks about .
A. the reasons for success B. the meaning of success
C. the standards of success D. the importance of success
37. In Paragraph 2,the underlined word that refers to .
A. being good at something B. setting a practical goal
C. putting in more time D. succeeding in life
38. Successful people suggest doing what one loves because .
A. work makes one feel pain B. one tends to enjoy his work
C. one gives up his work easily D. it takes a lot of time to succeed
39. What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A. Successful people like to show their great skills.
B. People sometimes succeed without luck or talent.
C. People need to achieve success at the cost of life.
D. It helps to think that luck or talent leads to success.
40. What is the main theme of the passage?
A. Having a goal is vital to success. B. Being good is different from being great.
C. One cannot succeed without time and practice.
D. Luck, talent and family help to achieve success.
第II卷 (非选择题 供30分)
四、语法填空
阅读下面材料,在空白处填入适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
CLICK FOR A FRIEND?
How would you feel if moving to a new town meant losing track of your friends? Not long ago, people could only write letters to faraway friends and wait 41 (age) for replies. Thanks to advances in 42 (technological), how we make friends and communicate with them has changed 43 (significant).
Nowadays, we can travel around the world and still stay in touch with friends. Social media lets us 44 (see) what our friends are up to and maintain friendships. The digital age also helps us find people 45 share our interests, such as 46 (collect) model cars or playing an unusual instrument.
But when you “friend” people online, 47 (do) this mean that they really are your friends? It depends. If people exchange true information, these friendships can be real. However, what we see on social media is often not the whole 48 (true). People tend to post only positive updates, and smiling photos can hide real problems. We could even be sharing 49 (we) information with criminals.
Still, we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Although technology has changed how we acquire friends, the meaning of friendship remains the same. As Aristotle said, no one would choose 50 (live) without friends, even if he had all other goods.
五、阅读表达
I used to be a selfish girl and I only thought of myself. I did not care about helping others, but only about my look, clothes, money and grades.
One day, I was suddenly influenced by my neighbor, who is now in college, and ended up wanting to volunteer for others. He had so much fun with volunteering and told me that he felt extremely good after helping others. I hoped to get the same results, for I felt worthless everywhere then. I viewed almost everything in a negative way, and I figured I had to experience something that would make me appreciate things that I had.
I volunteered at the nursing home for a year where my neighbor volunteered. I brought snacks, coffee and games for the elderly patients, talked to them while sharing snacks, and played games like chess and checkers them. Because they were Koreans, they often had trouble communicating with the helpers who were hired to help them. I sometimes translated things for them and offered to be their translator whenever they needed help.
By volunteering at the nursing home, I changed a lot. I realized how lucky I am to speak both Korean and English and that I should help other people learn Korean as well. I had learned many life lessons through volunteering. By helping others, I felt needed in society. Not only did it enhance my confidence, but it also allowed others to benefit from it.
Volunteering is a great opportunity to improve oneself, others, and the whole society. So if you ever have the chance, volunteer! It’s something you won't regret!

My Creative Way to Learn English
My favorite creative way to learn English is doing a voice-over for English videos. I like it because it makes learning fun and helps me improve my listening and speaking skills. Also, it helps me learn new words in a natural way.
First, I choose a short English video that I like. Then I watch it several times so that I can understand every sentence. After that, I turn off the sound and imitate the characters' voices. Finally, I record my voice and compare it with the original one.
This method is so interesting and useful that I have made great progress in English.

Good morning, everyone. Today I want to share my daily reading habits with you. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies and it brings me a lot of benefits. I usually spend one hour reading every night before going to bed. I prefer light novels and travel books instead of boring textbooks. When I finish my homework, I will sit by the window and enjoy my reading time quietly. For me, reading is not only a way to kill time but also a good chance to learn new knowledge. I can know different cultures and beautiful scenery around the world from books. Besides, it helps me calm down after a busy study day. I suggest every student develop a good reading habit. Choose books you like and stick to reading. You will find great fun in it.
