Activity 2 Fill in the blanks (3mins)

Childhood is a time of fun and games. Playing is one way children learn how to get along with others and it can also be a healthy way to exercise the mind as well as the body. 1 Children today spend most of their play time inside on video games. A recent survey of children in the United States found that children aged 8-12 spend at least 13 hours a week playing video games. Although some will argue that gaming is beneficial, the negative effects are obvious. 2 Because these kids spend most of their time interacting with a computer and not with actual people, friendship suffers. They might have trouble solving problems because they do not practice these skills.
3 Playing a video game is not a very physical activity and players usually sit in a chair for hours. In addition, players might not have the time to eat a well-balanced meal and will instead snack on whatever is available, whether it is healthy or not. 4 .There is also a chance that game players are more likely to have academic (学术上的，学习上的) problems because they spend much more time playing their game than working on their homework. 5
Video games, like anything else, should be done properly. A few hours a week would not hurt, but several hours a day might be dangerous.
As a result, game-players might be out of shape.（出现健康问题）
However, play today is not the same as before.
This often results in lower grades at school.
Boys in this age group spend even more time.
Another negative effect that video gaming has is on health.
It is common to hear about people who play four or five hours a day.
Kids who spend most of their time gaming might have social problems.

Some animals can be trained to help humans. For example, dogs can help blind people walk around the town safely. Monkeys can be taught things too. They can learn how to help people who can’t use their arms or legs. The monkeys pick up the phone when it rings, carry shopping bags and do housework.
In the wild, animals and humans are not usually friends. However, there are a few interesting examples where they can work together. In Africa, the honey guide bird works with humans to find food. The bird can find the beehives (蜂巢,蜂窝)but it can’t open them. People can open them, but they aren’t very good at finding them. So the bird and the people help each other.
In Laguna (拉古纳) in the south of Brazil (巴西), fishermen and dolphins work as a team. The fishermen can’t see the fish. However, dolphins can find them easily by using sounds. When the dolphins find a large group of fish, they push the fish to the beach. The fishermen wait in the water near the beach and catch a lot of fish in their nets. In Laguna, fishermen and dolphins have been working together for many years. The fishermen teach their children how to work with the dolphins. Meanwhile, the dolphins must be happy to help because they teach their babies how to work with the humans!
