However, the people stood up with a scream. Hardly could people believe their eyes. He only got 4.4 and fell to the fourth. Had he got 6.7, he would have been the champion.
Never did Emmons expect it. Not until the last shot did he lose. Sad as he was, Emmons forced a smile.
Gone was the gold. So was the silver. Even the bronze ... So depressed was he that he came up to his wife. He couldn’t accept it. Nor could his wife. She did nothing but hug him deeply.

省略if的虚拟条件 谓语动词有were, had, should, 可将if 省略，把were, had, should 移到主语前。采取部分倒装。
As/though 引导的让步状语从句必须将表语或状语提前。注意，句首不能带任何冠词.
so … that, such … that中的so或such及修饰的成分放于句首时前倒后不倒
