Londoners
are
great
readers.
They
buy
large
numbers
of
newspapers,
magazines
and
books

especially
paperbacks
(平装书),
which
are
still
cheap
in
spite
of
ever-increasing
rises
in
the
costs
of
printing.
They
still
continue
to
buy
"proper"
books,
too,
printed
on
good
paper.
There
are
many
streets
in
London
containing
shops
which
specialize
in
book-selling.
Perhaps
the
best
known
of
these
is
Charing
Cross
Road
in
the
very
heart
of
London.
Here
bookshops
of
all
sorts
and
sizes
are
to
be
found,
from
the
celebrated
one
which
is
said
to
be
"the
biggest
bookshop
in
the
world"
to
the
tiny,
dusty
little
places
which
seem
to
have
been
left
over
from
Dickens’
time.
Some
of
these
shops
stock
or
will
make
efforts
to
get
any
kind
of
book,
but
many
of
them
specialize
in
second-hand
books,
in
art
books,
in
foreign
books,
in
books
on
economics,
politics
or
any
other
subjects
about
which
books
may
be
written.
One
shop
in
this
area
specializes
only
in
books
about
ballet.
Although
it
may
be
the
most
convenient
place
for
Londoners
to
buy
books,
Charing
Cross
Road
is
not
the
cheapest.
For
really
cheap
second-hand
books,
collectors
must
venture
off
the
beaten
track,
to
Farringdon
Road,
in
the
East
Central
district
of
London.Here
there
is
nothing
so
impressive
as
bookshops.
The
booksellers
come
along
each
morning
and
put
lots
of
books
onto
small
hand-carts
(手推车)
which
line
the
streets.
The
collectors,
some
professionals
and
some
amateurs
(业余爱好者),
who
have
been
waiting
for
them,
run
quickly
towards
the
books.
In
places
like
this
one
can
still,
occasionally,
pick
up
for
a
few
pence(便士)
an
old
book
that
may
be
worth
many
pounds.
4."Londoners
are
great
readers"
means
that
    .
A.
Londoners
are
great
because
they
read
a
lot
B.
there
are
a
great
number
of
readers
in
London
C.
Londoners
are
readers
who
read
only
great
books
D.
Londoners
read
a
lot

various

this
passage,
what
does
the

Edmund
Halley
was
an
English
scientist
who
lived
over
200
years
ago.
He
studied
the
observations
of
comets
(彗星)
which
other
scientists
had
made.
The
orbit
of
one
particular
comet
was
a
very
difficult
mathematical
problem.
He
could
not
figure
it
out.
Neither
could
other
scientists
who
dealt
with
such
problems.
However,
Halley
had
a
friend
named
Isaac
Newton,
who
was
a
brilliant
mathematician.
Newton
thought
he
had
already
worked
out
that
problem,
but
he
could
not
find
the
papers
on
which
he
had
done
it.
He
told
Halley
that
the
orbit
of
a
comet
had
the
shape
of
an
ellipse
(椭圆).
Now
Halley
set
to
work,
He
figured
out
the
orbits
of
some
of
the
comets
that
had
been
observed
by
scientists.
He
made
a
surprising
discovery.
The
comets
that
had
appeared
in
the
years
1531,
1607
and
1682
all
had
the
same
orbit.
Yet
their
appearances
had
been
75
to
76
years
apart.
This
seemed
very
strange
to
Halley.
Three
different
comets
followed
the
same
orbit.
The
more
Halley
thought
about,
the
more
he
thought
that
there
had
not
been
three
different
comets,
as
people
thought.
He
decided
that
they
had
simply
seen
the
same
comet
three
times.
The
comet
had
gone
away
and
had
come
back
again.
It
was
an
astonishing
idea!
Halley
felt
certain
enough
to
make
a
prediction
of
what
would
happen
in
the
future.
He
decided
that
this
comet
would
appear
in
the
year
1758.
There
were
53
years
to
go
before
Halley's
prediction
could
be
tested.
In
1758
the
comet
appeared
in
the
sky.
Halley
did
not
see
it,
for
he
had
died
some
years
before.
Ever
since
then
that
comet
had
been
called
Halley's
comet,
in
his
honour.
8.Halley
made
his
discovery________.
A.by
doing
experiments
B.by
means
of
his
own
careful
observation
C.by
researching
the
observations
of
other
scientists
D.by
chance
9.Halley
made
a
surprising
but
correct
prediction
in
the
year________.
A.1704 B.1705
C.1706 D.1707
10.This
text
in
general
is
about________.
A.Halley
and
other
scientists
B.the
orbit
of
a
comet
C.Newton
and

I'm
30
years
old,
and
there
are
several
things
that
life
has
taught
me
that
I
want
to
share
with
you.
Here
are
the
4
lessons
that
life
has
taught
me
in
the
past
30
years.
1.
Take
Care
of
Your
Body
Life
is
“unfairly”
biased(偏向的)
towards
people
who
“look
good”,
like
it
or
not.
So
it's
important
that
you
do
all
that
is
in
your
power
to
look
your
best.__11__You
will
live
longer,and
you
will
live
happier,
if
you
take
care
of
your
body;
you
may
even
get
promoted
faster
on
your
job.
Remember
that
your
health
is
really
your
greatest
wealth.
2.__12__
No
one
taught
me
to
save
when
I
was
growing
up;
no
one
told
me
the
importance
of
saving.
Fortunately
I
was
able
to
learn
the
value
of
saving
through
reading
great
books
like
The
Millionaire
Next
Door.
What
I
want
to
teach
others
is
to
save
at
least
twenty
percent
of
your
income.
If
you
are
to
be
wealthy,
you
must
not
just
earn
a
lot,
you
must
save
a
lot.
3.Think
long-term
In
high
school
I
was
thinking
about
college;in
college
I
was
thinking
about
life
after
college.
I'm
designing
my
life
and
I'm
making
decisions
today
that
will
enable
me
to
live
the
life
I
desire
when
I'm
in
my
40's,
50's
and
60's.
You
have
to
think
long-term;you
have
to
see
the
“big
picture.”__13__
4.
Realize
the
Power
of
Focus
Focus,
focus,
focus...__14__If
you
fail
in
this
lifetime,
you
will
fail
because
of
broken
focus.
If
you
focus
on
the
goals
that
are
most
important
to
you,
you
will
achieve
them.
The
problem
is
that
there
are
so
many
distractions.__15__Winners
decide
to
major
on
majors,
and
they
even
let
important
things
slip,because
they
just
focus
on
achieving
what
is
critical
to
their
goals.
A.The
importance
of
saving.
B.If
you
plan
your
future
properly,you
will
live
into
your
plans.
C.Save
Your
Money.
D.Nothing
is
more
important
than
focus.
E.What
separates
the
winners
from
the
losers
is
that
the
winners
learn
to
focus
on
their
goal.
F.I
mean
dressing
nicely,
working
out
and
eating
right.
G.It's
critical
that
you
pursue
relationships
with
individuals
who
are
good
first.
