As
humanity
has
got
richer,
animals’
roles
have
changed.
People
need
their
services
less
than
before.
Fewer
wolves
and
thieves
meant
less
demand
for
dogs
for
protection;
the
internal
combustion
engine
(内燃机)
made
horses
unneeded;
modern
sanitation
(卫生设备)
kept
rats
in
check
and
made
cats
less
useful.
No
longer
necessities,
domestic
animals
became
luxuries.
Petkeeping
seems
to
kick
in
when
household
incomes
rise
above
roughly
$5,000.
It
is
booming.
The
trend
is
not
a
new
one.
Archaeologists
(考古学家)
have
found
10,000-year-old
graves
in
which
dogs
and
people
are
buried
together.
Some
cultures

such
as
in
Scandinavia,
where
dogs
have
long
been
both
working
dogs
and
companions

have
kept
pets
for
thousands
of
years.
But
these
days
the
pet-keeping
urge
has
spread
even
to
parts
of
the
world
which
have
no
tradition
of
sinking
into
a
comfortable
chair
with
a
furry
creature.
The
pet
business
is
growing
even
faster
than
pet
numbers,
because
people
are
spending
more
and
more
money
on
them.
No
longer
are
they
food-waste-recyclers,
fed
with
the
remains
that
fall
from
their
masters’
tables.
Pet-food
shelves
are
full
of
delicacies
crafted
to
satisfy
a
range
of
appetites,
including
ice
cream
for
dogs
and
foods
for
pets
that
are
old,
diabetic
or
suffer
from
sensitive
digestion;
a
number
of
internet
services
offer
food,
tailored
to
the
pet’s
individual
tastes.
In
the
business
this
is
called
“pet
humanisation”—
the
tendency
of
pet
owners
to
treat
their
pets
as
part
of
the
family.
This
is
evident
in
the
names
given
to
dogs,
which
have
evolved
from
Fido,
Rex
and
Spot
to

in
America

Bella,
Lucy
and
Max.
It
is
evident
in
the
growing
market
for
pet
clothing,
pet
grooming
and
pet
hotels.
People
still
assume
that
pets
must
be
working
for
humanity
in
some
way,
perhaps
making
people
healthier
or
less
anxious.
But
the
evidence
for
that
is
weak.
Rather,
new
research
suggests
that
dogs
have
evolved
those
irresistible
“puppy-dog
eyes”
precisely
to
affect
human
emotions.
It
has
worked.
The
species
that
once
enslaved
others
now
works
very
hard
to
pay
for
the
care
of
its
pets.
Sentimental
(多愁善感的)
Americans
often
refer
to
themselves
not
as
cat-owners
but
as
the
cat’s
“mommy”
or
“daddy”.
South
Koreans
go
one
further,
describing
themselves
as
cat
“butlers”.
Watch
an
unlucky
dog-walker
trailing
“his”
hound
(猎犬),
plastic
bag
in
hand
to
pick
up
its
mess,
and
you
have
to
wonder:
who’s
in
charge
now?
24.

following
trends
is
NOT
TRUE
according
to
the
passage?
A.
People’s
needs
for
animal
services
are
decreasing.
B.
Both
the
pet
number
and
the
pet
business
are
growing.
C.
Pets

D.
Pet

25.
Which
of
the
following
is
referred
to
as
evidence
of
“pet
humanization”?
A.
The
names

in
American
families
nowadays.
B.
Pets’
inbuilt
ability
to
affect
emotions
of
their

D.
Pets’
roles
as
both

26.
Which
of
the
following
statements
is
the
author
most
likely
to
agree
with?
A.
Pets
should

B.
Human
beings
are
getting
much
benefit
from
their
pets.

still
restricted
within
certain
parts
of
the
world.

spend
too
much

C
Exercise
may
help
change
exercisers’
brains
in
surprising
ways,
according
to
a
new
study.
The
study
found
that
exercise
prompts
the
liver
to
produce
a
little-known
protein,
and
thus
assist
out-of-shape,
elderly
animals
activate
their
brains
and
memories.
The
findings
raise
questions
about
whether
the
brain
benefits
of
exercise
might
someday
be
available
in
a
pill.
For
the
study
published
this
month
in
Science,
researchers
at
the
University
of
California,
San
Francisco,
decided
to
look
inside
the
minds
and
bloodstreams
of
mice.
They
had
both
young
and
elderly
mice
run
for
six
weeks,
and
then
transfused
blood
from
both
groups
into
elderly,
sedentary
animals(定栖动物).
Afterward,
those
aged
mice
performed
better
on
cognitive
tests
than
equally
elderly
ones,
whether
their
transfusions
had
come
from
young
runners
or
old.
It
was
the
donors’
activity
that
mattered,
not
their
age.
Scientists
found
one
little-studied
protein
known
as
GPLD1
in
the
running
animal’s
blood,
which
was
produced
mostly
in
the
liver,
an
organ
not
usually
thought
to
have
much
interplay
with
the
brain.
They
also
checked
blood
drawn
from
people.
The
older
men
and
women
who
habitually
walked
for
exercise
showed
higher
levels
of
GPLD1
in
their
bloodstreams
than
those
who
did
not.
The
result
of
these
findings
seems
to
be
that
exercise
improves
brain
health
by
prompting
the
liver
to
produce
extra
amounts
of
GPLD1,
Dr.
Villeda
says.
He
believes
that
if
further
experiments
show
that
GPLD1,
in
isolation,
helps
to
make
this
chain
reaction,
then
infusions
of
it
might
offer
the
brain
benefits
of
exercise
to
people
who
are
too
weak
or
disabled
for
regular
physical
activity.
Dr.
Villeda
also
argues
that
pharmaceutical
GPLD1,
even
if
effective
for
brain
health,
"would
not
replace
the
benefits
of
exercise."
There
would
be
none
of
the
usual
fat
burning,
or
muscle
building,
he
points
out.
28.
What
does
the
first
paragraph
serve
as?
A.
An
explanation
of
the
study.
B.
A
reason
for
the
study.
C.
A
background
of
the
study.
D.
An
introduction
to
the
study.
29.
What
can
we
learn
from
the
study?
A.
Age
didn’t
play
a
significant
role
in
boosting
brains,
but
working
out
did.
B.
Mice
performed
better
in
tests
if
their
transfusions
were
from
younger
ones.
C.
The
benefits
of
exercise
were
put
in
a
pill
to
activate
elder
animals’
brains.
D.
Younger
mice
produced
less
GPLD1
than
the
elderly
even
they
run
longer.
30.
Which
of
the
following
would
Dr.
Villeda
agree
to?
A.
More
amounts
of
GPLD1
will
be
produced
by
brain
after
exercise.
B.
People
who
take
GPLD1
pills
would
not
have
to
do
physical
exercise.
C.
GPLD1
will
help
weak
or
disabled
people
do
regular
physical
activity.
D.
The
weak
or
disabled
would
gain
brain
benefits
of
exercise
with
GPLD1.
31.
What’s
the
author’s
attitude
towards
the
new
finding?
A.
Positive.
B.
Objective.
C.
Negative.
D.
Skeptical.
D
With
child
behavior,
there
is
almost
much
more
than
it
meets
the
eye.
Because
it
occurs
at
so
many
different
levels,
child
behavior
that
seems
simple
at
one
level
can
often
be
much
more
complex
and
meaningful
at
another.
For
instance,
a
little
child’s
pattern
of
getting
into
cupboards,
drawers
and
closed
rooms,
even
after
being
told
not
to,
is
easily
considered
as
bad
behavior.
When
viewed
at
that
level,
the
pattern
is
unacceptable
and
could
lead
to
punishment.
But
it
can
be
viewed
at
a
more
complex
and
meaningful
level,
namely
child
exploration.
If
a
child
regularly
experiences
an
angry
parent
who
seems
determined
to
prevent
any
exploratory
activities,
the
child
will
decide
to
continue
to
achieve
future
discoveries.
When
parents
view
this
behavior
as
born
out
of
natural
curiosity
rather
than
simple
opposition,
they
are
more
likely
to
accept
and
appropriately
monitor
it.
Although
it
may
lead
to
warning
responses
to
ensure
the
child’s
safety,
it
is
less
likely
to
lead
to
punishment.
There
are
countless
other
examples.
Holding
a
goldfish
outside
its
bowl
is
foolish
at
one
level
but
also
can
be
seen
as
a
young
child’s
attempt
to
express
physical
affection
for
a
pet.
Spending
time
with
friends
rather
than
family
is
selfish
at
one
level
but
also
indicates
a
teen’s
need
for
independence.
The
point
here
is
that
child
behavior
is
often
exhibited
in
simple
forms
that
can
appear
to
be
oppositional,
selfish
or
generally
unacceptable
if
viewed
only
at
that
basic
level.
However,
when
viewed
at
a
more
meaningful
level,
the
same
apparently
simple
behavior
can
be
seen
as
something
larger
and
potentially
more
adaptive.
This
doesn’t
mean
the
behavior
should
be
ignored,
especially
if
it
is
inappropriate.
But
looking
at
the
bigger
picture
of
a
child’s
behavior,
adults
might
gain
a
fuller
understanding
of
what
they’re
dealing
with,
which
can
create
more
flexibility
in
how
they
respond.
32.
According
to
Paragraph
1,
we
can
know
that
child
behavior
__________.
?
A.
is
very
changeable??
B.
occurs
at
different
levels
?
C.
is
inacceptable??
D.
is
fully
understood
by
adults
33.
The
example
in
the
passage
mainly
shows
that
__________.
?
A.
there
are
different
attitudes
to
child
behavior?
B.parents

语言运用(共两节,满分30分)
第一节
(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
You’ve
been
painting
for
a
few
years,
and
maybe
you
have
even
sold
a
painting
or
two.
Are
you
ready
to
___41___
the
title
of
an
amateur
artist?
Distinguishing
green
hand
from
professional
artists
is
___42___
task.
It
is
not
just
a
matter
of
your
ability
to
create
nice
paintings.
It’s
not
only
about
painting
techniques.
And
for
most
cases,
it
doesn’t
happen
___43___.
Very
few
artists
become
overnight
success
without
years
of
struggle
and
suffering.
To
turn
professional,
people
find
it
critical
to
develop
a
personal
style.
What
makes
your
paintings
___44___
among
other
paintings
out
there?
Are
your
paintings
standing
out
unmistakably
directed
to
you
as
the
creator?
A
personal
style
comes
along
with
technique,
painting
medium,
and
subject
and
it
tends
to
develop
gradually
over
time.
You
___45___
it
through
unconscious
and
constant
exploring
and
self-shaping.
Style
does
not
mean
that
you
are
painting
the
same
subject
or
using
the
same
painting
medium.
Salvador
Dali
used
to
use
many
artistic
media,
but
they
all
have
a
___46___
Dali
style.
Style
refers
to
the
emotions
and
thoughts
delivered
by
your
paintings,
which
people
can
identify
with.
Their
___47___
of
the
painter
is
then
a
sure
thing.
Artists
talk
about
their
___48___
all
of
the
time.
What
gets
you
out
of
bed
every
morning
to
paint?
How
do
you
find
the
energy
to
have
all
your
time
devoted
to
painting?
___49___,
we
all
love
to
do
what
we
do
and
we
get
a
satisfaction
out
of
creating.
For
the
professional
artist,
it
goes
beyond
that.
Some
artists
wish
to
convey
a
deep
message
concerning
life,
society
or
even
politics.
Others
simply
seek
___50___
returns
to
cover
kids’
tuition
fees
or
pay
family
bills.
Yet,
all
professional
artists
know
that
they
have
to
keep
working
to
achieve
the
goals.
Many
amateur
artists
passively
wait
for
___51___
to
come.
If
they
are
not
in
the
mood,
they
do
not
bother
wasting
the
time.
They
sometimes
allow
themselves
to
be
occupied
by
events
like
parties.
Professionals
are
never
easily
___52___
or
torn
away
from
their
art
work
in
progress.
Focused
on
their
work
so
much,
some
even
regard
spending
time
outside
their
___53___
as
crime
___54___
is
their
secret
to
high
productivity.
Besides,
professional
artists
are
constantly
prepared
to
grab
new
ideas
for
the
next
painting,
which
they
believe
is
sure
to
be
better
than
the
previous
one.
The
belief
that
there
is
always
room
for
___55___
keeps
driving
them
forward
in
the
art
world
where
many
masters
have
come
along.

【解析】
考试是一件令人疲倦的事情,文章给出了几点备考的技巧:激励自己并保持乐观的情绪、每天制订记忆计划、记笔记以及重读笔记。
36.选C 本空前一句讲述考试是一件令人疲倦的事情,后一句讲述有时我们不得不专心读书并努力去记住所有的知识。设空处为过渡句,转到备考(Preparing
for
it
...)这一话题,故选C项。
37.选A 根据本段主题Motivate及设空后的“Give
yourself
some
positive
goals
...”可知,本段建议要激励自己,设定积极的目标,要在情绪上做好准备。即如果不用心准备,复习是无效的。故选A项。
38.选D 本段主题为Memorize,由此可知本段讲述的内容与记忆有关,D项中的“your
memory”与之呼应,故选D项,起到承上启下的作用。
39.选G 本段主题为Take
Notes,本空后一句讲述重读笔记并试图回忆教授是怎样讲述此部分知识的,可知此空讲述的是记笔记的好处,G项中的复现词“recall”是解题的关键。
40.选F 根据设空处前一句“花足够的时间来复习并击败焦虑”可知,当你复习好了,你就可以不用担心考试了。故选F项。

M:
I’ll
have
three
pairs
of
these
shoes.
Please
tell
me
how
much
I
should
pay.
W:
$40
for
one
pair,
but
we
offer
a
10%
discount
for
each
pair
when
you
buy
two
pairs
or
more.

W:
Hey.
Where
are
you?
M:
In
Heathrow
Airport.
My
plane
leaves
in
an
hour,
and
it
is
expected
to
arrive
at
about
7
p.m.
W:
OK.
Ring
me
up
when
you
arrive.
M:0K.

M:
I
am
sorry
to
hear
that
Karl
was
fired.
But
I
know
he
was
often
absent
for
sickness
and
he
frequently
arrived
at
work
late.
W:
Oh,
neither
of
the
reasons.
Karl
made
a
huge
accounting
error.
(Text

M:
Is
it
all
right
if
I
play
in
here?
W:
Well
actually,
I
don't
think
you're
allowed
to.
Look
at
those
boys.
You
can
play
there.
(Text

W:
So
what's
your
decision,
sir?
M:
I
think
a
self-guided
tour
would
be
best
for
my
budget.
Could
you
still
help
me
with
the
plane
reservations?
W:
Certainly.
(Text

M:
Hi,
Mary.
Are
you
going
to
the
culture
festival
on
Saturday?
W:
No,
I
can't.
I
have
a
part-time
job
in
the
afternoons.
How
about
you?
M:
I
can't
either.
I
work
part-time,
too.
W:
Sounds
tiring.
What
do
you
usually
do
on
Saturday
nights?
M:
Uh.
I
usually
meet
my
friends.
What
about
you?
W:
I'm
usually
pretty
tired
after
working,
so
I
just
relax
at
home
and
do
my
homework
in
the
evening.
I
get
up
early
on
Sundays
and
do
the
cleaning.

M:
Have
you
heard
the
city
has
passed
a
law
against
walking
dogs
on
the
streets?
W:
Sure,
it's
published
in
the
newspapers.
M:
Then
dogs
have
to
be
kept
inside
all
the
time.
W:
It's
rather
cruel,
isn't
it?
M:
Yes,
you're
right.
W:
We
shouldn't
be
so
cruel
to
dogs.
They
are
our
friends.
M:
But
dogs
often
leave
a
mess
on
the
streets,
unless
the
owners
can
clean
up
the
mess
from
their
dogs.
But
most
owners
seem
not
that
thoughtful.
W:
Perhaps
the
best
solution
is
to
build
a
dog
park.
Then
people
can
walk
their
dogs
there.
M:
That
sounds
good
and
practical.

W:
Hello,
can
I
help
you?
M:
Oh
hello.
Um,
is
that
Mill
House
Farm?
W:
Yes.
M.
Well,
I'd
like
to
book
five
nights
in
July
for
a
group
of
students
from
New
York
High
School
if
the
price
is
reasonable.
W:
We
charge
?4
a
night
per
student.
M:
What
does
that
include
exactly?
W:
Well
all
the
equipment
is
very
basic.
We
have
big
clean
areas,
with
wooden
floors,
so
there
is
lots
of
space
to
sleep.
There
is
a
bathroom
but
no
hot
water!
Just
cold
water
for
washing.
M:
Um,
and
what
about
food?
W:
They
do
their
own
cooking.
They'll
have
to
bring
sleeping
bags
and
their
own
food
with
them.
M:
Right,
it
sounds
great!
Well,
I've
got
20
students...
(Text

W:
Professor
Martin,
could
I
have
a
word
with
you
for
a
moment,
please?
M:
Of
course,
Janet.
W:
Wow,
I
can't
believe
you
know
name.
Our
class
is
pretty
big.
M:
Well,
I
pride
myself
on
being
able
to
remember
who
each
of
my
students
is.
And
I
bet
you're
here
because
of
your
recent
midterm
grade,
aren't
you?
W:
Uh,
yes,
sir.
You
know.
I've
never
actually
gotten
a
C
on
an
exam
before,
so
I
was
kind
of
wondering
what
exactly
I
did
wrong
on
the
test.
Do
you
think
you
could
give
me
any
tips?
M:
Well,
since
this
is
one
of
the
first
tests
you've
taken
in
college,
let
me
explain
a
few
things
to
you.
First,
remember
that
college
is
a
lot
different
than
high
school.
In
my
history
class
I
don't
want
you
to
just
repeat
names,
dates,
and
places.
Instead,
I
want
you
to
tell
me
not
only
what
happened
but
why
it
happened.
W:
I
think
I
understand,
sir.
Do
you
have
any
other
tips
for
me?
M:
Well,
I
think
it
might
be
a
good
idea
if
you
were
to
go
to
speak
with
Tom,
the
teaching
assistant
on
the
third
floor.
His
job
is
to
help
students
like
you.
W:
Great.
I
think
I'll
do
that.

I
love
movies!
And
after
I
see
them,
I
like
to
comment
on
them.
These
are
movies
I
saw
this
year
and
I
would
like
to
recommend.
Among
comedies
I
highly
recommend
Monsoon
Wedding.
It's
an
Indian
movie.
The
story
is
about
an
Indian
wedding.
Preparations
for
the
wedding
bring
out
funny
and
sad
situations
touching
on
love
and
a
past
crime.
This
movie
shows
some
of
the
typical
customs
of
India,
and
the
importance
of
family
and
love.
It's
great!
I
like
Adaptation
too.
It
is
an
excellent
movie!
But
for
me
the
first
part
of
the
movie
was
too
fast
to
follow,
although
there
were
clear
captions.
I
hope
to
see
it
again
on
DVD
at
home.
The
Pianist
is
set
in
the
Second
World
War.
It's
about
a
young
Polish-Jewish
pianist,
who
lives
in
Poland
with
his
family.
The
Nazis
sent
his
family
to
die
in
the
concentration
camps.
He
was
safe,
but
would
have
died
without
unusually
good
luck
and
the
kindness
of
a
few
non-Jews.
This
is
a
powerful
movie
with
meaningful
themes.
Rabbit-Proof
Fence
is
set
in
the
1930s
in
Australia,
and
it's
based
on
real
events.
It
is
about
three
native
girls
who
are
separated
from
their
families
by
the
racist
police
who
send
them
to
special
centers.
There
the
girls
are
taught
practical
skills
and
the
government
tries
to
make
them
part
of
white
Australian
society.
They
finally
fled
away
and
walked
1,500
miles
to
find
their
mothers.
This
is
a
sad,
touching
story
that
you
should
not
miss.
