I
took
a
job
at
a
vet
(

)
clinic
almost
five
decades
ago.
As
an
enthusiastic
animal
lover,
I
accepted
the
position
on
the
condition
that
I
wouldn't
have
to
assist
with
any
wounded
animals.
I
couldn't
bear
to
see
any
creature
in
pain.
At
the
end
of
my
first
week,
we
were
closing
the
office
for
the
day
when
a
young
man
ran
up
to
us
holding
a
severely
injured
Doberman
pinscher
puppy
(

)
in
his
arms
and
begging
us
to
save
his
life.
The
four-month-old
pup
had
been
hit
by
a
car.
The
doctor
and
I
ran
back
into
the
operating
room.
The
only
place
the
skin
was
still
attached
to
this
poor
little
animal's
body
was
around
one
shoulder.
The
vet
worked
tirelessly
for
what
seemed
like
hours,
sewing
him
back
together
again.
That
was
the
easy
part.
The
puppy
had
broken
multiple
bones,
including
his
spine
(

)
.
If
he
survived
the
next
few
days,
we
were
quite
sure
he
would
never
walk.
That
day
forever
changed
my
life.
I
became
the
vet's
assistant
in
all
things
medical.
One
of
my
first
jobs
was
to
give
that
Doberman
puppy
daily
physical
therapy.
I
remember
moving
his
tiny
legs
to
try
to
keep
his
muscles
from
weakening.
Weeks
went
by
until
one
day,
I
felt
this
little
fighter
push
back
ever
so
slightly.
And
he
continued
to
push
back
till
he
could
fall
use
his
legs.Fast-forward(快进)
about
a
year.
I
walked
into
the
clinic's
crowded
waiting
room
and
called
the
name
of
the
next
client.
Suddenly,
a
huge
Doberman
who
had
been
sanding
quietly
with
his
owner
on
the
opposite
side
of
the
room
broke
loose
and
dashed
toward
me.
I
found
myself
pinned
against
the
wall
with
this
magnificent
dog
standing
on
his
hind
legs,
his
front
paws
on
my
shoulders,
washing
my
face
with
abundant
and
joyful
kisses!
I
still
tear
up
in
amazement
at
the
display
of
love
and
gratitude
the
dog
had
for
me
that
day
all
those
years
ago.
24.Which
was
the
possible
position
the
author
took
originally
at
the
clinic?

medical
assistant.

A
regular
receptionist.
C.
An
enthusiastic
volunteer.
D.
A
professional
vet.
25.
How
did
the
author
help
the
dog?
A.
She
sewed
his
wounds.
B.
She
fixed
his
spine.
C.
She
helped
him
to
recover.
D.
She
taught
him
to
walk.
26.What
can
we
infer
about
the
dog?
A.
He
struggled
to
be
on
his
feet.
B.
He
liked
to
lick
people’
s
faces.
C.
He
got
well
immediately.
D.
He
got
fierce
afterwards.
27.What
is
the
best
title
of
this
passage?
A.
A
loving
vet.
B.
A
lucky
dog
C.
A
grateful
patient.
D.
A
life-changing
story.
C
In
2018,
Pakistan
promised
to
plant
ten
billion
trees
in
an
effort
to
slow
climate
change
and
to
save
a
land
that
has
been
destroyed.
That
program,
whose
name
is
10
Billion
Trees
Tsunami,
has
been
taking
effect
slowly
for
the
past
two
years,
but
it
recently
has
received
unexpected
help
from
the
coronavirus(

).
Many
Pakistanis
are
suddenly
unemployed,
so
the
government
has
given
them
jobs
as
tree-planters.
Unemployed
day
laborers
have
been
turned
into
"jungle
workers",
planting
trees
for
500
rupees
a
day($3).
It's
not
much,
but
it
can
help
the
unemployed
get
by.
As
the
coronavirus
struck
Pakistan,
the
10
Billion
Trees
campaign
was
halted
as
part
of
social
distancing
orders
put
in
place
to
slow
the
spread
of
the
virus.
But
earlier
this
month,
the
government
allowed
the
forestry
agency
to
restart
the
program
and
create
more
than
63,
600
jobs.
The
program
is
employing
three
times
the
number
of
planters
as
it
normally
does,
and
the
planting
season
has
been
extended
from
May(its
usual
end)throughout
June,
in
order
to
keep
workers
employed.
All
workers
are
being
told
to
wear
masks
and
keep
two
meters
of
distance
from
others.
Shahid
Rashid
Awan,
project
director
for
Punjab
province,
said
the
project
hopes
to
reach
50
million
trees
this
year.
“We
can
absorb
all
the
unemployed
laborers
and
workers
who
have
fled
the
cities
and
returned
to
their
villages
in
the
past
few
weeks.”
A
study
declared
tree
planting
to
be
an
effective
way
to
store
carbon,
and
if
planted
in
large
quantities
around
the
globe,
a
powerful
solution
to
climate
change.
While
it
won’t
fix
every
climate-related
problem
we
have,
it
can
go
a
long
way
if
done
widely,
which
is
exactly
what
Pakistan
is
trying
to
do
with
such
impressive
determination.
And
the
workers
will
benefit
greatly,
too.
Not
only
are
they
able
to
earn
money
and
support
their
families
at
a
difficult
time,
but
they’re
outside
in
the
fresh
air,
away
from
the
potential
health
risks
from
more
tightly-packed
urban
environments.
It’s
a
brilliant
idea
that
all
country
leaders
should
consider
copying.

The
government
has

The
Mars
2020
rover(漫游者)(02W),
which
sets
off
for
the
Red
Planet
this
year,
will
not
only
search
for
traces
of
ancient

but
pave
the

for
future
human

NASA

Shown
to
invited

on
Friday,
it
is
scheduled
to
leave
Earth
in
July
2020
from
Floridas
Cape

becoming
the
fifth
US

on
Mars
seven
months
later
in

that
will
help
us
understand
the
geological

on
the

Mars,”
deputy
mission
leader
Matt

told
AFP.
Among
the
devices
on
board
the

two
“ears”
that
will
allow
it
to

the
same
as
a
day
on

and
pick
up
the

put
them
into
a

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
It’s
a
nightmare
having
to
wait
for
exam
results.
36
If
you’re
stressed
out
after
taking
your
exams,
don’t
worry!
There
are
some
steps
you
can
take
to
calm
down
and
reduce
your
stress.
Take
some
deep
breaths.
Stress
and
anxiety
can
trigger
your
body’s
“fight
or
flight”
response,
making
your
breaths
shallow
and
rapid.
37
Put
one
hand
on
your
chest
and
the
other
on
your
abdomen
(腹部).
As
you
breathe,
you
should
feel
your
abdomen
expand
along
with
your
chest.
Try
not
to
go
over
the
exam
in
depth
straight
afterwards.
Some
people
find
it
comforting
to
talk
to
friends
a
little
about
what
they
wrote.
However,
it
only
makes
you
worry
about
the
answers
you
can’t
change.
It
is
also
a
bad
idea
because
your
brain
does
not
perform
well
under
stressful
conditions.
You
will
be
unable
to
think
clearly
right
after
a
stressful
exam.
38
Get
some
exercise
to
relax.
You
might
not
feel
like
hitting
the
gym
or
going
for
a
run
directly
after
an
exam,
but
getting
some
moderate
physical
activity
is
a
great
way
to
reduce
stress!
39
If
you’re
stressed
out
over
your
exam,
try
doing
exercise
like
jogging,
cycling
or
even
a
quick
walk.
Regular
exercise
has
been
shown
to
decrease
tension
and
improve
your
sleep.
40
Regardless
of
your
results,
you
should
celebrate
the
fact
that
you
have
worked
hard
on
your
exams.
Reward
yourself
by
doing
something
you
enjoy.
If
you
can
do
it
with
friends,
all
the
better.
Studies
have
shown
that
spending
time
with
friends
and
loved
ones
is
an
excellent
way
to
relieve
stress
and
promote
a
sense
of
calm
and
well-being.
A.
Spend
time
with
positive
people.
B.
Do
something
enjoyable
to
relax.
C.
Fight
this
stress
response
by
taking
deep
breaths.
D.
You
may
feel
like
you
perform
much
worse
than
you
actually
do.
E.
The
situation
will
be
worse
if
you’re
not
sure
of
your
performance.
F.
Whatever
makes
you
laugh
will
help
you
sort
out
your
post-exam
stress.
G.
It
can
produce
endorphins
(内啡肽),
which
are
natural
painkillers
that
boost(使增加)
your
mood.

Music
to
My
Ears
Robby
was
10
for
his
first
piano
lesson
in
my
class.
Much
as
he
tried,
he
41
even
the
basic
rhythm(节奏).
However,
he
dutifully
reviewed
the
pieces
that
I
required.
Over
the
months
he
tried
and
tried
while
I
42
and
encouraged
him.
At
the
end
of
each
lesson
he'd
always
say,
"My
mom's
going
to
hear
me
play
some
day."
43
it
seemed
hopeless.
I
only
knew
his
mother
from
a
44
as
she
waited
in
her
aged
car
to
pick
him
up.
Then
one
day
Robby
stopped
coming.
I
was
secretly
45
that
he
stopped
because
of
his
lack
of
ability.
Weeks
later
I
informed
the
students,
including
Robby,
of
the
coming
recital(独奏).
To
my
46
,
Robby
asked
me
if
he
could
be
included.
I
told
him
he
really
did
not
qualify
because
he
had
47
out.
He
said
his
mom
had
been
sick
and
unable
to
take
him
to
lessons
but
he
was
still
48
.
“I've
just
got
to
play!"
he
49
.
Something
inside
me
let
me
allow
him
to.
Then
came
the
recital
night.
The
gym
was
50
with
parents.
I
put
Robby
up
51
,
thinking
that
I
could
save
his
poor
performance
through
my
“curtain
closer(谢幕).”
The
recital
went
off
smoothly.
Then
Robby
came
up
on
stage.
His
clothes
were
wrinkled
and
his
hair
was
52
.
"Why
didn't
his
mother
at
least
make
him
comb
his
hair
for
this
special
night?"
I
thought.
Robby
pulled
out
the
piano
bench
and
began.
I
was
not
53
for
what
I
heard
next.
His
fingers
were
54
on
the
keys.
Never
had
I
heard
Mozart
played
so
well
by
people
of
his
age.
After
he
ended,
everyone
rose
55
their
feet
in
wild
applause.
In
56
I
ran
up
on
stage
and
put
my
arms
around
Robby.
"I've
never
heard
you
play
like
that,
Robby!
How
did
you
57
it?"
Robby
explained,
"Well,
Miss
Hondorf…remember
I
told
you
my
mom
was
sick?

58
she
had
cancer
and
passed
away
yesterday.
She
was
born
deaf,
so
tonight
she
could
hear
me
play
in
heaven.
I
wanted
to
make
it
special."
There
wasn’t
a
59
eye
in
the
house.
That
night
I
felt
he
was
the
teacher
and
I
was
the
pupil,
for
it
was
he
who
taught
me
the

of

He

W:

I

M:
That’s

then

M:
What

W:
Everything
is
expensive,
including
clothing,
housing,
and
transport.
M:
Then,
what’s
it
that
you
spend
most
money
on?
W:
I
enjoy
travelling,
so
I
think
it
should
be
transport.
As
for
food,
it's
quite
cheap,
as
I
cook
myself
most
of
the
time.
Besides
,my
clothes
here
are
all
brought
from
my

and
they're
nice
and
cheap.
But
every
month,
I
have
to
spend
over
400
dollars
on
the
trains.
M:
Then
how’s
your
social
life?
W:
I'm
very
active
and
outgoing.
I
love
hanging
out
chatting
with
my
friends
and
meeting
new
people.
But
I
don't
drink
nor
smoke,
so
the
only
expense
is
perhaps
the
admission
fees
to
the
cinemas,
club,
and
so
on.

meeting?
If
not,
what
about
Oct
12th?
That's
after
the
trade
exhibition.
M:
But
we
have
something
else
to
do
on
that
day,
Amanda.
W:
Oh,
yes.
I
forgot.
The
people
from
Head
Office
are
coming.
M:
What
time
is
their
plane
due
to
arrive?
Can
we
have
the
meeting
in
the
morning?
W:
I’m
afraid
not.
Everything
is
arranged.
I'm
picking
them
up
at
ten,
so
you
see
I
won't
be
available
the
whole
day.
M:
In
that
case,
let's
have
the
meeting
earlier
in
October,
then.
The
trade
exhibition
finishes
on
the
fourth,
doesn't
it?
W:
Yes,
but
the
meeting
needs
Alan’sales
report
for
the
meeting.
How's
it
going?
M:
I'm
afraid
Alan
hasn't
begun
the
job
yet.
The
figures
won't
be
in
place
till
next
week.
W:
Will
he
get
it
ready
early
in
October?
M:
Not
really.He
said
that
he
would
finish
them
by
Oct
10th.
W:
Then
let’s
make
the
week
starting
the
17th.
What
about
two
o'clock
on
that
day?
M:
I
think
that's
Okay.
Let's
meet
here
again
then.

W:
Hello,
everyone.
Today,
I'd
like
to
share
with
you
a
true
story
of
mine.
One
day,
my
friends
and
I
had
just
finished
dinner
at
a
restaurant
when
it
began
to
rain
heavily.
When
it
became
lighter,
I
decided
to
brave
the
rain
to
get
car
and
go
home.
It
was
parked
three
blocks
away.
My
friends
advised
me
not
to
go
because
at
that
time,
I
was
due
to
give
birth
in
two
months.
I
made
a
promise
that
I'd
be
very
cautious.
One
of
them
wanted
to
accompany
me,
but
I
insisted
she
stay
with
another
friend
who
needed
help
with
her
baby.
When
I
made
my
way
to
the
first
crossroads,
a
cab
stopped
beside
me
and
a
young
man
with
an
umbrella
got
out,
telling
me
he
would
walk
with
me
to
where
I
would
go.
I
was
embarrassed
and
refused,
but
he
insisted.
During
our
walk,
he
kept
reminding
me
to
walk
slowly.
When
arriving
at
the
car
park,
I
thanked
him,
and
we
parted.
I
did
not
ask
for
his
name
and
may
not
even
recognize
him
now.
Did
he
purposely
stop
for
me?
It
will
never
be
known.
