B
Jeremy
grew
up
being
active
in
sports.
But
he
never
thought
about
healthy
eating
until
he
found
himself
gaining
weight
several
years
after
college.
Last
week,
Jeremy
hit
a
turning
point
when
he
found
that
he
was
too
out
of
shape
to
play
in
a
company
football
team.
He
decided
to
change
his
eating
habits.
The
first
step
Jeremy
took
toward
healthy
eating
was
to
stop
going
to
fast-food
restaurants.
Jeremy
used
to
eat
fast
food
as
often
as
4
times
a
week.
To
his
surprise,
he
found
that
giving
up
fast
food
wasn't
that
difficult.
Now,
he
says,
"I
don't
even
like
it
anymore."
When
Jeremy
does
go
out
to
eat,
he
tries
to
pick
menu
items
that
he
knows
are
healthier.
He
orders
salads
and
lower-fat
sandwiches
instead
of
hamburgers,
and
he
drinks
water
instead
of
soda
pop.
"I
try
to
order
things
that
are
already
prepared
the
way
I
would
like
them
to
be
prepared."
Planning
meals
has
been
a
key
to
Jeremy's
success.
It
helps
him
avoid
getting
too
hungry
and
eating
fast
food.
Each
week
he
plans
what
he
will
eat
for
each
meal,
and
he
shops
for
groceries(食品杂货)with
his
plan
in
mind.
"It's
a
lot
easier
to
make
healthy
choices
when
you're
just
planning
ahead
for
it."
Rather
than
cutting
out
certain
foods,
Jeremy
sometimes
includes
his
favourite
foods
in
his
eating
plan.
"That
way
I
don't
feel
like
I'm
letting
myself
down
by
not
sticking
to
my
plan.
Jeremy's
friends
and
family
noticed
when
he
started
eating
healthier.
They
have
helped
him
to
make
a
habit
of
his
healthy
eating
changes.
"It
made
me
feel
pretty
good,
especially
when
people
started
making
comments
about
the
changes
I
was
making,"
he
says.
"You
just
get
the
positive
energy."
24.What
made
Jeremy
decide
to
change
his
eating
habits?
A.Higher
food
prices.
B.Weight
gain
in
college.
C.Dislike
of
unhealthy
foods.
D.Failing
to
join
a
football
team.
25.What
did
Jeremy
think
of
giving
up
fast
food?
It
was
too
easy
for
him.
It
made
him
uncomfortable.
It
was
not
as
difficult
as
he
thought.
It
meant
stopping
going
out
to
eat.
26.What
played
the
most
important
role
in
Jeremy's
healthy
eating?
A.Eating
less
at
mealtimes.
B.Making
plans
ahead
of
time.
C.Following
his
friends'
advice.
D.Cutting
out
all
unhealthy
foods.
27.How
does
Jeremy
feel
about
people's
comments?
A.Surprised.
B.Encouraged.
C.Worried.
D.Interested.

As
more
and
more
people
speak
the
global
language
of
English,
Chinese,
Spanish,
and
Arabic,
other
languages
are
rapidly
disappearing.
In
fact,
half
of
the
6,000-7,000
languages
spoken
around
the
world
today
will
be
likely
to
die
out
by
the
next
century,
according
the
United
Nations
Educational,
Scientific,
and
Cultural
Organization
(UNESCO).
In
an
effort
to
prevent
language
loss,
scholars
from
a
number
of
organizations

UNESCO
and
National
Geographic
among
them

have
for
many
years
been
documenting
dying
languages
and
the
cultures
they
reflect.
Mark
Turin,
a
scientist
at
the
Macmillan
Center,
Yale
University,
who
specializes
in
the
languages
and
oral
traditions
of
the
Himalayas,
is
following
in
that
tradition.
His
recently
published
book,
A
Grammar
of
Thangmi
and
Their
Culture,
grows
out
of
his
experience
living,
working,
and
raising
a
family
in
a
village
in
Nepal.
Documenting
the
Thangmi
language
and
culture
is
just
a
starting
point
for
Turin,
who
seeks
to
include
other
languages
and
oral
traditions
across
the
Himalayan
reaches
of
India,
Nepal,
Bhutan,
and
China.
But
he
is
not
content
to
simply
record
these
voices
before
they
disappear
without
record.
At
the
University
of
Cambridge
Turin
discovered
a
wealth
of
important
materials
—including
photographs,
films,
tape
recordings,
and
field
notes

which
had
remained
unstudied
and
were
badly
in
need
of
care
and
protection.
Now,
through
the
two
organizations
that
he
has
founded

the
Digital
Himalaya
Project
and
the
World
Oral
Literature
Project

Turin
has
started
a
campaign
to
make
such
documents,
found
in
libraries
and
stores
around
the
world,
available
not
just
to
schools
but
to
the
younger
generations
of
communities
from
whom
the
materials
were
originally
collected.
Thanks
to
digital
technology
and
the
widely
available
Internet,
Turin
notes,
the
endangered
languages
can
be
saved
and
reconnected
with
speech
communities.
28.Many
scholars
are
making
efforts
to
.
A.promote
global
languages
B.rescue
disappearing
languages
C.search
for
languages
communities
D.set
up
language
research
organizations
29.What
does
“that
tradition”
in
Paragraph
3
refer
to
.
A.having
detailed
records
of
the
languages
B.writing
books
on
language
users
C.telling
stories
about
language
speakers
D.living
with
the
native
speakers
30.What
is
Turin’s
book
based
on?
A.The
cultural
studies
in
India.
B.The
documents
available
at
Yale.
C.His
language
research
in
Bhutan.
D.His
personal
experience
in
Nepal.
31.Which
of
the
following
best
describes
Turin’s
work?
A.Write,
sell
and
donate.
B.Record,
repair
and
reward.
C.Collect,
protect
and
reconnect.
D.Design,
experiment
and
report.

Throughout
history,
music
spread
among
people
of
different
cultures.In
today’s
technological
advanced
society,
however,
people
spread
music
online,
sometimes
without
an
artist’s
permission.This
can
lead
to
many
problems,
and
music
companies
are
now
cracking
down
on
this
practice.Sharing
music
online
without
permission
is
theft
(盗窃).
Sharing
music
online
prevents
recording
companies
from
making
money
from
their
efforts.They
say
that
sharing
music
online
has
resulted
in
a
huge
drop
in
profits
and
sales
over
the
past
10
years.People
who
find
music
for
free
online
are
not
paying
for
CDs
or
every
MP3
downloaded.To
truly
understand
the
influence
of
music
piracy
(盗版)
on
creators,
one
must
understand
how
many
people
are
involved
in
the
recording
process.For
the
sale
of
each
album,
profits
must
be
shared
between
musicians,
sound
engineers,
music
producers,
managers,
advertisers,
and
the
company
selling
the
product.Many
people
believe
sharing
music
only
affects
the
recording
artist,
but
the
reality
is
that
sharing
hurts
business
for
all
companies
involved.
There
are
many
people
who
don’t
see
the
harm
in
sharing
music
online
and
even
think
they
have
the
right
to
do
it.One
online
blogger
states
that
he
originally
paid
for
an
entire
CD
and
that
he
should
be
able
to
do
with
the
material
whatever
he
wants.While
he
may
have
legally
paid
for
the
music,
he
does
not
have
the
right
to
provide
permission,
which
means
people
like
the
blogger
are
thieves.
Although
we
don’t
spread
today’s
music
the
same
way
we
did
before,
there’s
no
doubt
that
people
around
the
world
love
to
share
music.However,
internet
piracy
would
prevent
musicians
from
continuing
producing
albums
for
fear
of
theft.Therefore,
if
people
want
to
continue
listening
to
their
favorite
artists,
they
need
to
buy
their
music
so
that
artists
will
make
enough
profit
to
continue
their
music
careers.
The
underlined
phrase
“cracking
down
on”
in
paragraph
1
is
closest
in
meaning
to
.
A.bringing
up
carefully
B.speaking
highly
of
C.dealing
seriously
with
D.destroying
completely
33.We
can
learn
from
the
text
that
.
artists
are
taking
action
to
protect
their
right
sharing

affects
a
lot
of
people
online
music

D.a
person

Taking

When
taking

you
may

your

You
may
find
that
your
own
health

If
you

you

help.
36.
Eat

When
things

you

37.
Both

Try
to
eat
as
healthily
as
you

even
if
sometimes
you

Try

Sleep

You

for
someone
else.
If
you
fall
ill,
that
does
not
do
anyone
any
good.
So
it's
best
to
make
sure
you're
in
good
health.
A.Don't
ignore
signs
of
illness
in
yourself.
B.Therefore,
it's
important
to
take
care
of
yourself.
You
may
not
eat
much,
or
you
may
end
up
eating
junk
food.
Not
getting
enough
sleep
can
make
you
less
effective
in
the
task.
However,
it
can
be
difficult
when
you
are
taking
care
of
a
loved
one.
The
best
plan
is
to
visit
a
doctor
regularly
to
make
sure
you're
in
good
health.
Don't
be
afraid
to
ask
for
help
when
you're
ill,
as
that
can
help
take
some
of
burden
off
you.

Do

With

brain

Search

In
the
same

that

a

said
to
produce
physical
changes
in
the
brain.
All
you
will
have
to
do
is
to
43
a
few
minutes
each
day
to
complete
puzzles,
memory
games
and
word
quizzes.
At
least
that’s
the
idea.
And
there
are
a
lot
of
people
who
are
44
into
it.
In
2018,
consumers
spent
an
estimated
$1.9
billion
on
brain
training
apps—a
fourfold
increase
from
2012.
Of
course,
smartphones
were
not
the
original
home
for
brain
training
games.
45
,
Nintendo
recently
released
its
fourth
all-time
best-selling
game,
Brain
Age,
and
brought
it
to
the
Switch
in
Japan
last
month.
The
idea
of
improving
mental
fitness
clearly
has
widespread
appeal,
but
is
it
based
on
scientific
evidence
or
46
marketing
promises?
In
2014,
the
Stanford
Center
on
Longevity
published
an
open
letter
47
by
69
international
neuroscientists
(神经科学家)
and
cognitive
psychologists.
There
is
no
convincing
scientific
evidence,
the
experts
argued,
that
playing
brain
games
improves
cognitive
abilities
in
everyday
life.
Two
years
later,
another
team
of
psychologists
reviewed
every
scientific
study
cited
by
major
brain
training
companies
48
their
products.
They
questioned
not
only
how
the
evidence
had
been
reported
and
interpreted,
but
the
way
many
of
the
studies
had
been
designed.
The
49
included
small
sample
sizes,
inadequate
control
groups,
and
cherry-picking
(挑选最有利的)
research
outcomes
to
50
.
If
the
science
is
so
51
flawed
(错误的),
why
do
people
feel
the
need
to
train
their
brains
with
these
apps
and
games?
That’s
52
,
according
to
Til
Wykes,
a
professor
at
King’s
College
London.
Nintendo’s
Brain
Age
game,
for
instance,
assigns
players
a
score
based
on
their
gaming
performance.
They
might
start
with
a
“brain
age”
score
of
60
and
after
a
few
weeks
of
53
,
will
be
told
they
have
reduced
it
to
40.
For
some
people,
there
is
clearly
some
positive
reward
for
seeing
themselves
improve
over
time.
Wykes
stresses,
54
,
(

that
for
people
who
are
really
worried
about
their
cognition,
learning
a
new
language
would
be
more
beneficial,
which
has
been
shown
to
improve

The

The

told
the

“Peasant,
I

I

Tomorrow

“But
Mr.

They

“You

the
lizard,
and
he

When

“My

our

“I
will
never

a
lizard,

said
the
elder
daughter.
“Sorry,

Then
the

his

the

“Thanks,
dear

said
the

“Tomorrow

The

my
major

W:
That
can
be
a
difficult
decision,
John.
M:
How
can
I
decide?
W:
Well,
I’d
start
with
your
interests.
It
will
help
you
if
you
study
something
that
you
are
interested
in.
What
do

Those
are
my

I

W:
What
do
you
mean
by
helping
people?
M:
If
people
have
problems,
I

to

them.
Or
if
people
are
hurt,
I
like
to
try
to

W:
It
sounds
like
you
might
be
interested
in
medicine,
then.
M:
Uh,
I
don’t
know…
W:
Another
thing
I
think
you
should
consider
is
the
possible
jobs
you
might
get
and
how
much
money
you
want
to
make.
M:
How
do
I
figure
that
out?
W:
You
can
research
different
jobs
at
the
library,
and
there
are
reports
and
data
on
how
well
different
jobs
pay.
M:
I

W:
Well,
there
you
go!
Income
is
going
to
influence
you
most
in
your
choice
of
major.
There
is
one
other
thing
you
should
consider,
too.
M:
What’s
that?
W:
You
know…scholarships,
the
money
given
to
you
for
college.
You
might
want
to
pick
a
major
that
will
allow
you
to
get
a
special

I
know
you’ll
make
the
right
decision.
