When I graduated from high school, my family had a business so I never thought about getting a college education. I went straight from my high school graduation to working for my father. After 24 years of ups and downs(mostly downs) I decided that I wanted to return to school and earn a degree in Business Administration.
Some told me it was too late. Others told me I was too old. Others told me I would never be able to make it. I didn’t have any money and I couldn’t go to school, work full time and take care of my son. But inside I was told something different. Turtles, the only reptile （爬行动物）that has a shell and no teeth, are found in many parts of the world with temperate or tropical climates. Some kinds live on land, others in fresh water or salt water. Since turtles are cold-hlooded, they can’t live in places that are cold all year long. Most sea turtles feed on small sea animals, such as sponges. They also feed on sea plants and grasses.
Sea turtles’ senses are very sharp. Their sense of smell is the strongest sense. Some scientists believe that sea turtles have a stronger sense of smell than a dog has. They use their keen noses to find food and to smell a nearby enemy. Sea turtles can hear well, too. They can hear low-pitched sounds about as well as a person can hear them. Sea turtles also have good eyesight. They can see clearly when they are swimming through the water. Their eyes help them spot small food in the open seas.
Turtles are probably the longest-living group of animals, some living 150 years or more. Full-grown turtles are different in size from 9 centimeters long and less than one pound in weight to 2.4 to 2.7 meters long and weighing up to 1,500 pounds. Most species of turtles grow throughout life, although slowly after the first 5 to 10 years. The most dangerous part of a sea turtle’s life is its first 10 years. During those years, the turtle is small and not very fast. If it survives this period, it can live a long life.
Turtles are popular pets, but they are potential carriers of dangerous bacteria. If you find a turtle in the wild, do not take it home. A wild turtle already has a home range. People can experience loneliness for many reasons and many life events are associated with it, like the lack of friendship relations during childhood and adolescence, or the physical absence of meaningful people around a person are a few causes for loneliness. Chronic loneliness is a serious, life-threatening condition.
