A
Fuerteventura is a great place awaiting your discovery. Here are some reasons.
La Concha beach
Located in the Concha bay, the La Concha beach is one of the most popular beaches, which is dressed in white sand and beautified with calm water. The beach is close to the town, and at sunset, most tourists rush to see the skies turn beautiful colours in just a few short moments. At low tide (海水的低潮),small pools of water form, and these are great for the little members of the family to take a dive in. There are enough parking lots and plenty of restaurants to choose from.
Corralejo Natural Park
If you want to experience the desert beauty of Fuerteventura, Corralejo Natural Park will be the best place. It is a coin with two sides. One is characterized by volcanic scenery, and the other is white sand that has been cleansed by the blue water of the Atlantic Ocean. Getting to the park can be easily done by road, but exploring it demands that you put on your hiking shoes and take a walk through the natural wonderland.
Costa Calma beach
Costa Calma beach is characterized by blue waters and white sand. The beach is not packed, so you will get a chance to be just with your thoughts as you sunbathe on the sand. When the winds are swift, Costa Calma beach turns into a hot spot for surfers, ideal for those wanting to get a surfing course. The road leading to the beach is fenced by green plants meaning the magic starts even before you get there.
Cofete Beach
It's hard to find a fitting description for this wild beach. Its shoreline is great for its golden sand and wild water. Getting to Cofete Beach is not easy: perhaps that's why this place is still in its original state. The road has difficult spots that require expert driving skills. However, if you can tolerate it, you will be treated with some amazing views.

Facial expressions carry meaning that is determined by situations and relationships. For example, in American culture the smile is in general an expression of pleasure. Yet it also has other uses. A woman's smile at a police officer does not carry the same meaning as the smile she gives to a young child. A smile may show love or politeness. It can also hide true feelings. It often causes confusion across cultures. For example, that many people in Russia smile at strangers in public is thought to be unusual and even improper. Yet many Americans smile freely at strangers in public places (although this is less common in big cities). Some Russians believe that Americans smile in the wrong places; some Americans believe that Russians don't smile enough. In Southeast Asian culture, a smile is frequently used to cover painful feelings. Vietnamese people may tell a sad story but end the story with a smile.
Our faces show emotions, but we should not attempt to "read" people from another culture as we would "read" someone from our own culture. The fact that members of one culture do not express their emotions as openly as members of another do does not mean that they do not experience emotions. Rather, there are cultural differences in the amount of facial expressions permitted. For example, in public and in formal situations many Japanese do not show their emotions as freely as Americans do. When with friends, Japanese and Americans seem to show their emotions similarly.
It is difficult to generalize (归纳) about Americans and facial expressions because of personal and cultural differences in the United States. People from certain cultural backgrounds in the United States seem to be more facially expressive than others. The key is to try not to judge people whose ways of showing emotions are different. If we judge according to our own cultural habits, we may make the mistake of "reading" the other person incorrectly.
1. What does the smile usually mean in the U. S.
A. Love. B. Politeness. C. Joy. D. Thankfulness.
2. The author mentions the smile of the Vietnamese people to prove that smile can _____.
A. show friendliness to strangers B. be used to hide true feelings
C. be used in the wrong places D. show personal habits
3. What should we do before attempting to "read" people
A. Learn about their relations with others.
B. Understand their cultural backgrounds.
C. Find out about their past experience.
D. Figure out what they will do next.
4. What would be the best title for the passage
A. Cultural Differences B. Smiles and Relationships
C. Facial Expressions D. Habits and Emotions
C
How different can other cultures be Very different! People probably speak different languages and have beliefs and customs very different from yours. They can eat different foods and live in different types of houses. However, they can also be similar in ways of connecting with each other. We sometimes call these means of communication universal(共同的)languages.
Some legends hold that, thousands of years ago, there was a single language spoken by everyone on Earth. Of course, historical evidence does not support this, but it is fun to think about a time when everyone may have been able to communicate in the same language.
Today, there are thousands of languages spoken around the world. Yet, there are some means of communication that go beyond words and allow people of different backgrounds to communicate and share emotions and feelings. For example, some people believe music is a universal language. There may be some scientific support for this idea. Experts have learned that, across cultures, people can recognize three common emotions in music: happiness, sadness and fear.
So what other types of universal languages might there be Some people believe dance is a universal language. Along with music, dancing seems to be a common interest shared by people all over the world. Do you think you could see a dance from another culture and make some reasonable (合理的) guesses about the ideas and emotions behind it We bet you could!
Another universal language that you might not have thought of is mathematics! If you think about it now, it just makes sense. The value of pi is roughly 3. 14159 no matter where you are on Earth. Similarly, figuring out the value of something involves the same mathematical calculations, regardless of whether you're counting in dollars, pesos or coconuts.

A. cultures are extremely different
B. people like eating different foods
C. people can communicate in similar ways

D. The doubt that people didn’t understand each other.
3. Why is music regarded as a universal language
A. It can be easier to understand than languages.
B. Many of the people like listening to music.
C. It usually comes from different backgrounds.
D. It helps people to share common feelings.
4. What are universal languages according to this passage
A. Mathematics, English and art.

Dolphins appear to make a tasty meal for many predators(捕食性动物). And why With an exceptionally high fat content, dolphins provide great nutrition for predators who track throughout the ocean. However, dolphins are more troublesome than it's worth and most predators generally learn to avoid dolphin groups, including sharks. Like elephants, dolphins will circle protectively around the weak members of the group, and attack anything that approaches in a threatening manner. And they can kill sharks. Most predators take one look, and then just swim away.
Dolphins don't worry a lot about being eaten. In general, their only real predator is the shark, and even then only the larger species of sharks dare to attack dolphins. Dolphins have evolved (进化) over a long time to be pretty tough, so in general even the most dangerous sharks stay away from them. Dolphin parts have been found in the bellies of killer whales, who will eat just about anything. In fact, dolphins and killer whales team up sometimes to catch some prey.
As with most edible(可以食用的) species today, the most dangerous threat is man. Sometimes, dolphins are killed not because they are a source of food, but because they prey on the same fish species as humans. Therefore, many fishermen have killed dolphins specifically because they think dolphins will ruin their catch.
Even more, there are some countries that eat cetaceans, including dolphins. In Japan, the meat of some dolphin species is seen as a delicacy, and can cost up to $ 25 a pound. In Peru and many other Latin American countries where the ocean has been largely short of fish due to overfishing or environmental conditions such as El Nino, fishermen have turned to catch dolphins and porpoises to sell in fish markets.
1. What can we learn from the first paragraph
A. No ocean animals can attack dolphins.
B. Dolphins are not easy to deal with.
C. Dolphins often kill sharks.
D. Dolphins are quite low in fat.
2. What does the underlined part in the passage mean
A. People have ever found the evidence of killer whales eating dolphins.
B. Killer whales and dolphins have something in common concerning bellies.
C. Dolphins and killer whales join hands to hunt and feed.
D. Dolphins and killer whales are not similar in belly parts.
3. Which is one of the reasons why dolphins are killed according to Para. 3
A. The number of dolphins is too large.
B. Dolphins are more delicious than other species.
C. Dolphins compete with humans on the same fish species.
D. Dolphins, meat is the main economic source for some fishermen.
4. Why do the Japanese kill dolphins
A. Dolphins are a source of delicious food.
B. Dolphins affect their way of living.
C. There aren't so many fish in the ocean as before.
D. Dolphins cause overfishing.

Nothing has come easy to Chris who faced many challenges in his childhood. His father, Nick, said that his son suffered from illnesses most of his life. Chris was born with Down syndrome (唐氏综合征) and underwent many major surgeries. All through his illnesses, the little boy always has a strong will.
"When you have children with Down syndrome, they don't fit in, they are different and they don't get invited to parties. They don't get invited to anything. Everything you do is a challenge, and it is a fight. It is a battle to just get them to be included," Nick said.
Despite his life challenges, Chris tries hard to stay positive and works hard to overcome his difficulties. "Don't tell me that I'll fail," the young man replies to those who tell him he can't do something.
Chris has always been athletic, so his father found an Ironman triathlon (铁人三项赛) program for him to participate in. His father viewed the program as a fun thing they could do together. He encouraged Chris to do something that no one had ever done before. He knew accomplishing a challenging event such as the Ironman triathlon would make an incredibly powerful impact, not only on his son but on many others with disabilities. He asked Chris if he would be interested in participating in the most challenging race. "Yes, let's do it!" Chris enthusiastically replied.

答案:①an ② following ③ has grown ④ carried ⑤with ⑥ their ⑦characters ⑧which/that ⑨to celebrate ⑩equally
故填has grown。
故填with。
故填 their。
故填 which 或 that。
故填to celebrate。
