When someone asks me what my goals are for the coming year, I don’t usually know how to reply. Of course I, as most people do, want to see an improvement in my grades. This year, however, I’m hoping for something different.
Through the course of my school life, I’ve gradually developed a new understanding of the word “prioritization (优先次序)”. The first thing I wish to get in Senior 1 is the ability to manage my time better. I’ll surely become busier with the coming semester(学期), and proper organization is important. From school clubs to academic competitions, everything should be set up in a way that doesn’t influence my health, which leads me to my second goal.
My mother has always told me put my health first, so in the future, I hope to both physically and mentally healthy. A person can’t study without having the energy to do so. In order to stay energetic, they must put their health first, no matter how busy they are, or how much work they have to complete.
And finally, I hope that I won’t be discouraged(泄气的) by my failure and never give up on my dreams. I hope that I’ll have the courage to try new activities and clubs. I believe my final goal can apply to every student around the world. We should all respect one another’s likes and dislikes, and concentrate on each other’s advantages, not our disadvantages. Everyone should try to take part in all of life’s opportunities(机会).
Albert Einstein once said, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance(平衡), you must keep moving.” In my case, it’s the other way around. In order to keep moving, I must keep my balance—the balance between studies and activities, efficiency(效率) and procrastination (拖延症), academics and health, passions and dislikes. The new journey is going to be a hard one, but if I set these goals, I believe I will make it through to the end.
24. During this school year, what does the author hopes to do
A.Concentrate on improving her overall grades. B. Join as many school clubs as possible.
C. Learn how to manage her time well. D. Spend more time on outdoor activities.
25. According to the article, which of the following students should do
A. Not be afraid of failing. B. Always put their studies first.
C. Only do what they're good at. D. Make different kinds of friends.
26. What does the underlined word in the last paragraph mean
A. A strong feeling of dislike B. A strong feeling of love
C. A strong feeling of anger D. A strong feeling of joy
27. What does the author plan to do
A. Show what she likes about high school life.
B. Stress(强调) the importance of health to students.
C. Show how to balance our studies and activities.
D. Share her goals for the coming high school year.

Do you like Chinese traditional painting and dance They are two important parts of the traditional Chinese art. But what about when they meet each other
This year, a dance drama titled Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting (《只此青绿》) was staged on CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala and became popular.
According to CCTV, this poetic dance program was inspired by the 900-year-old Chinese painting A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains (《千里江山图》). Created by Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng at about 18, the painting is amazing in its sweeping size, rich coloration and the expressive details, reported CCTV. It shows a Chinese blue-green landscape: “mountains and groupings of infinite (无限的) rise and fall between cloudless sky and rippling (涟漪的) water”.
When the dancers moved elegantly(优美地), audiences seemed to be looking at the moving mountains and rivers. “It brings me a pure experience of beauty. It is not only a drama but also an exhibition. Vast mountains and rivers are coming to life!” Internet user Mo Weisha wrote in a review. “More than a thousand years later, green mountains and rivers still impress people as they did long ago.” Some people even decided to watch the dance again when it was staged in the theaters later. In fact, in recent years, more and more modern shows feature Chinese traditional culture and have received warm welcome. As for the reason, it is due to people’s great love for traditional culture.
“The younger generations have grown up with a more open mind. They accept Chinese culture and are proud of it.” Yao Wei, director of Henan TV Station’s Innovation Center, told China Daily.

A new study has found that all dogs have different personalities—even dogs of the same breed (品种).
Elinor Karlsson studies genetics(基因学) at the University of Massachusetts. She co-wrote a report about the study, which appeared recently in the publication Science.
Karlsson said, “Every dog really is an individual(个体),” noting that there is “a huge amount of difference” even between dogs that look the same.
At a New York dog park, dog owners talked about the different personalities of their pets. Elizabeth Kelly owns an English springer spaniel. She called her dog friendly, but also “kind of the queen bee.” In other words, her dog likes to act like it is in charge of(管理) other dogs. Suly described her yellow Labrador as “calm, lazy and shy.”
The idea of dog breeds is quite recent. Around 160 years ago, humans began to breed dogs to have certain physical qualities, such as fur, color and ear shape.
Karlsson said her aim was to learn how much a dog’s breed affects their behavior. The answer Breed does not decide an individual dog’s personality.
Karlsson’s team gathered information from 18,000 dog owners and studied the genetic code of over 2,000 dogs. The researchers found that some qualities are based on genetics. However, it is not sure that two dogs of the same breed will act in the same way.
For example, huskies and beagles, may be more likely to howl—or make a long, loud barking(狗叫) sound. But many of these dogs do not howl, as owner observations(观察) showed.
What do we know about Karlsson’s report
She wrote it by herself. B. It was published in Science.
C. She finished it after graduation. D. It is of little value to her study.
33. What does the underlined “the queen bee” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A. A bee that seems busy. B. A dog whose name is Queen.
C. A bee that serves the whole group. D. A dog acting as if it is the most important.
34. What is the purpose of Elinor Karlsson’s study
A. To help dog owners learn about their dogs better.
B. To prove dog breeds influence their personalities.
C. To study the tie between dog breeds and behaviors.
D. To show different dogs have different personalities.
35. What does the author want to tell us in the last paragraph
A. All the dogs can make a long, loud barking.
B. Dogs of the same breed can behave differently.
C. Dogs’ owners may observe their pets carelessly.
D. Huskies and beagles are not the same dog breed.

At first, Surrell didn' t see the black smoke or flames(火焰) shooting from the windows of his neighbors' home. He and his wife were just having a dinner in their own house in Allentown, Pennsylvania, when they heard someone screaming: "The house is on fire!” He went to investigate (查看). That's when he saw two women and a girl crazily at a loss on their porch(走廊). It was his neighbour' s house.
The baby's inside there!" one of the women cried. Though the fire department had been called, Surrell, then 64, instinctively (本能地)ran inside. "The baby" was 8-year-old Tiara Roberts, who always called him Uncle Surrell. She was the woman's granddaughter and a playmate of Surrell's three youngest kids, 8, 10, and 12. The other two on the porch were Tiara's aunt and cousin.
Entering the burning house was like running into "a bucket(桶) of black paint". The thick smoke caused Surrell to walk blindly around, burned his eyes, and made it impossible for him to breathe. He felt his throat and lungs burned, and every blink stung (蛰) his eyes. The conditions would have been very dangerous for anyone, but for Surrell, who has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(慢性阻塞性肺病) and was in hospital just half a year ago, they were life- risking.
After a few minutes in the smoke-filled house searching but in vain, he ran outside to catch his breath. "Where is Tiara "he asked desperately(不顾一切地).
“The second floor. "her aunt shouted back.
Surrell knew he couldn’t hold his breath for long. So he uttered a little prayer: "Well, God, this is it. You got to help me, because I' m not coming out without that little girl.”

Dear Alex,
Disturbed by my slow progress in English learning, I’m in urgent need of your guidance.
What bothers me most was my inefficiency and lack of motivation in memorizing words. Due to the limited vocabulary, I always find myself stumped by the choice of idiomatic and accurate expressions in writing. Additionally, when doing listening exercise, the unfamiliar words add to my difficulty following the dialogues, thus making it impossible to for me get an ideal result in the exams.
I would appreciate it if you could give me some suggestions.
Yours,
Li Hua
读后续写:
Paragraph 1: Taking a deep breath, he went in a second time. The darkness was overwhelming. He ran blindly in the blackness, and finally made it to the second floor, where he was met by intense heat. He was already out of breath. "Baby girl, where are you " He cried desperately. All he could hear was the popping of burning wood. Then a soft but distinct moan emerged. He quickly crawled toward the sound. Finally, he touched something. A shoe, then an ankle. He pulled Tiara toward him and hugged her tight and said, "Uncle’s got you. "The last thing he remembered, he was outside.
Para two: Surrell woke up in the hospital a couple of days later. Having suffered severe burns to his windpipe and the upper portion of his lungs, he spent another two weeks in the hospital. Tiara recovered soon and was released from the hospital after two days. She went to visit Surrell everyday, talking with Surrell, though Surrell, whose throat closed off and who had to take extra medication, can't speak any word. "Thank you for saving my life, Uncle Surrell. "Tiara smiled. " It's a small price to pay, "Surrell thought. "but I' d do it again in a heartbeat..
