Step 1Language practice Make the students go over these sentences: You must be careful of falling stones. You mustn’t walk too close to the edge of the hill path, because you might fall and hurt yourselves. You should always wear proper clothes. Bears might think our rubbish is food. —Can we go rock climbing —No, you can’t. 1. First, the students go over these sentences. 2. And then observe modal verb and summarize the use of modal verb. 1. 首先让学生复习所展示的句子。2. 然后让学生观察并总结情态动词的用法。

Step 2Grammar Make the students go over the use of modal verb. 情态动词情态动词本身有一定的含义, 但不能单独作谓语, 后跟行为动词原形一起构成谓语, 表示说话人的语气和情态。情态动词没有人称和数的变化。情态动词must , may, might, can, could等都能表示“推测”。它们的推测程度由强到弱的顺序是: must, can, could, may, might。must表示有把握的推测, 意思为“一定是, 肯定是”, 只用于肯定句, 表示对现在的推测。否定形式则用needn’t。 而mustn’t 则表示“禁止”。情态动词表“建议” 或“邀请”多用would 和shall, 常用的句式有: Would you like/love to. . . 和Shall we. . . The students go over the use of modal verb. 让学生复习情态动词的用法。

Why not do. . . ③表示“命令、禁止、不得不”常用must, mustn’t , have to。④“没必要做某事”常用needn’t, don’t have to或以下句型: It isn’t necessary to do sth. There is no necessity to do sth. The students understand the use of modal verb. 让学生在具体的语境中练习情态动词的用法。

Step 4Finish Activity 1 Make the students match the pictures with the rules. The students observe these signs and match the pictures with the rules. 通过具体的标志练习指令, 更有利于学生掌握。
Step 5Activity 2 Read the list of rules and write sentences using must, mustn’t, should or shouldn’t. 答案: You must check in at the main gate when you come to the centre. You should climb with someone. You must wear a hard hat at all times. You must wear the correct climbing shoes. You must wear comfortable clothes. You mustn’t climb without a rope. You mustn’t eat or drink anywhere except in the restaurant. You shouldn’t listen to personal music players while climbing. You shouldn’t talk on a mobile phone while climbing. The students understand these sentences first and then write sentences using must, mustn’t, should or shouldn’t. 使学生通过具体的语境理解情态动词的用法。
Step 6Activity 3 Make the students work in pairs. Explain the rules. 1. Why must you climb with someone Because you can ask for help if you meet some problems. 2. Why must you wear comfortable clothes Because comfortable clothes can make you less tired. 3. Why mustn’t you climb without a rope Because it is dangerous for you. 4. Why shouldn’t you listen to music while climbing Because you can hear what is going on around you. 1. The students understand these questions. 2. And then work in pairs to answer them. 学生们首先理解各个问句, 然后小组合作回答问题。
