One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
Tina's request reached 80-year-old retired rescuer Frank. Grabbing the flashlight and pulling on his overcoat, Frank rushed out into the storm without hesitation. The snow was so heavy that even with the flashlight, Frank could barely see right in front of him. It was really tough for the 80-year-old, but never did he think of giving up. It took him over an hour to finally find Tina's car. Tina burst into tears when she saw Frank. Then with Frank leading the way, Tina drove slowly and carefully towards Frank's house.
Paragraph 2:
Frank's wife prepared a rich meal for Tina. Hungry and exhausted, Tina enjoyed the meal very much. After dinner, the couple offered to put Tina up for the night. Tina was deeply moved and said, “Thank you so much. I really can't imagine what would have happened to me but for your help." The snowstorm stopped in the early morning and by noon the highway had been cleared. It was time to say goodbye. Tina hugged the couple tightly, thanking them again and again, and then started her journey home with her heart filled with warmth.秘密★启用前

The TV series, The Longest Day in Chang’an, which was shown on Chinese online platforms, became a hit soon. Since then, it has been shown on partnering streaming platforms and TV networks abroad. Some websites overseas also offered the program to their users paying for it — the first time a Chinese series was broadcast as paid content abroad.
“I was amazed by the overseas audience’s love of this show,” Cao Dun, director of The Longest Day in Chang’an told Beijing Review. “I was worried that they wouldn’t understand the complex political structure of the Tang Dynasty. But in fact, the show is prompting foreign audiences to research the history of the Tang Dynasty to better understand the plot.”
The unique culture in ancient China is no a barrier but a bridge to connect with foreign audiences. In the TV series, every figure is given enough space to flesh out his or her character.
Telling stories of the ordinary Chinese people that resonate (引起共鸣) with the audience might be the way to communicate with the world. “The success of the TV series shows that beauty is a universal language crossing borders,” he told Beijing Review.
His ambition is to distinguish Chinese dramas from the TV shows in the rest of the world. “The TV series is a step in my plan to tell Chinese stories to the world,” Cao said. “After describing the impressive beauty of the Tang dynasty, I am looking for several plays that tell stories of today’s China. I don’t want to copy any country’s production. Chinese dramas have to build on our rich culture and Chinese people’s everyday life.” Cao added.
24. What do we know about the TV series
A. It can be appreciated for free.
B. It was very popular once it was shown.
C. It was put on overseas when first released.
D. It is about the development of the Tang dynasty.
25. What does the underlined word “prompting” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Requiring. B. Reminding. C. Encouraging. D. Informing.
26. What contributed to the TV series’ success
A. Recognition of beauty. B. Stories of Tang Dynasty.
C. Diversity of Chinese culture. D. Personalities of every figure.
27. What is the best title of the passage
A. Learn the Ancient Political Structure B. Make a Successful TV Series is Easy
C. Show Different Nationalities in China D. Tell Chinese Stories to the World
C
We can recognize our friends’ face. Many social animals can also identify individuals of their own species by their facial features. That’s important, because they need to be able to adjust their behavior depending on who they meet. And research has shown that some species of monkeys, birds, and domesticated(驯养的) animals can even distinguish among different faces by looking at photographs alone.
Scientists have also wondered whether domesticated animals that have coexisted with people for thousands of years can recognize different human faces. Léa Lansade of France’s National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment is one of them. Her experiment on horses provides insight into this.
She and her team first taught the horses how to “choose” between two side-by-side images by touching their noses to a computer screen. The horses were then shown photos of their present keeper alongside face of unfamiliar humans. They had never seen photos of any of the people before. The horses correctly identified their present keeper and ignored the stranger’s face about 75% of the time, significantly better than chance.
What’s more, the horses also preferentially picked photos of their previous keeper—a person they hadn’t seen in six months. In fact, even though the horses didn’t get it right every single time, they were at least as accurate in picking out their previous keeper as they were in identifying their present one. The results suggest that not only can horses distinguish between familiar and unfamiliar human faces, but they know that photographs are two-dimensional representations of real life, without any other cues(提示) like sound. And they’re even better at this than our oldest animal companion, the domestic dog.
So maybe think twice before doing anything at a stable(马厩) that might give a horse a long face. After all, the horse could probably “remember” you.
28. What does the author say about man’s ability to recognize friends’ faces
A. It’s not unique to man. B. It’s an inborn ability.
C. It’s man’s most vital ability. D. It’s superior to that of animals.
29. Why did Léa Lansade and her team do the experiment
A. To teach horses to recognize human faces.
B. To study horses’ ability to identify human faces.
C. To make horses distinguish between their keepers.
D. To figure out similarities between man and horses.
30. How does the author sound in writing the last paragraph
A. Academic. B. Dramatic. C. Cautious. D. Humorous.
31. What is the best title for the text
A. Human Faces Are Familiar to Horses
B. Horses Read Man’s Facial Expressions
C. Horses Recognize Keepers’ Pictures
D. Man’s Sound Helps Horses Select Photos

For years video games have been criticized for making people more antisocial(反社会), overweight or depressed. But now researchers are finding that video games can actually change us for the better and improve both our body and mind.
Games can help to develop physical skills. Pre-school children who played interactive games have been shown to have improved motor skills, for example they can kick, catch and throw a ball better than children who don’t play video games. A study found that those who played video games were 27 percent faster and made 37 percent fewer errors than those who didn’t.
Games also benefit a variety of brain functions, including decision-making. People who play action-based games make decisions 25 percent faster than others, according to one study. It was also found that the best gamers can make choices and act on them up to six times a second, four times faster than most people. In another study by researchers from the University of Rochester in New York, experienced gamers were shown to be able to pay attention to more than six things at once without getting confused, compared with the four that most people can normally keep in mind.
There is also evidence that gaming can help with psychological problems. At the University of Auckland in New Zealand, researchers asked 94 young people diagnosed with depression to play a 3D fantasy game called SPARX and in many cases, the game reduced symptoms of depression more than conventional treatment.
The effects are not always so positive, however. Indiana University researchers carried out brain scans on young men and found evidence that violent games can adjust brain function after as little as a week of play, affecting regions in the brain associated with emotional control and causing more aggressive behavior in the player. But Danhne Bavelier, one of the most experienced researchers in the field, says that the violent action games that often worry p parents most may actually have the strongest beneficial effect on the brain. In the future, we may see many treatments for physical and neurological (神经的) problems, which include the playing of video games.
32. In what way playing video games benefits very young children
A. Muscle control. B. Social interaction.
C. Decision-making. D. The ability to focus.
33. Which type of video game improves the decision-making speed
A. Interactive games. B. Action-based games.
C. 3D fantasy games. D. Violent games.
34 What is the authors attitude to video games
A. Indifferent. B. Objective. C. Worried. D. Critical.
35. What is the text mainly about
A. The effects of different types of video games.
B. The negative effects of playing video games.
C. The beneficial effects of playing video games.
D. The effects of games on people’s behavior.

How to Keep a Dog off the Furniture
Despite your best efforts to train your dog, it might be common for you to return home from work to discover damaged furniture. So it’s essential to train your pets to stay off the furniture. ______36______
Training and Reward
You will need to invite your dog onto the furniture to teach it to stay off the furniture. Encourage your dog to climb onto the furniture. Reward it with a positive command such as “good boy/girl”. ____37____ Use a command such as “off”. Don’t raise your voice or force it. When it does as you’ve asked, reward it with a treat. This will reinforce(强化)the good behavior of staying off the furniture. It’ll associate getting down with a positive result, such as a tasty treat. _____38____ Keep reinforcing the “off” command with a pocket full of treats on standby.
Its Own Space
Many homeowners are turning to ceramic tiles (瓷砖) or hardwood. You wouldn’t want
to lie on cold wood or tiles in the winter months and neither would your dog. Plush(长绒毛) pillows or comfortable pet beds give your dog a warm alternative to snuggling (蜷伏) beside you on the sofa. _____39____ If it still seeks the security of your presence nearby, place its bed close to where you’re sitting.
In Your Absence
Despite your best efforts, your dog may decide sleeping on the sofa is OK as long as you’re not around to punish it. Consider turning over the dining room chairs and placing them on the sofa or your armchairs. ____40____ For those disappointed by your efforts to protect your furniture, consider a doggy gate to keep the living room off limits in your absence.
Ask it to get down.
But how to train it
Ask it to stand up on the furniture.
Let it be if your dog fails to learn to stand by.
This will make the furniture far less appealing.
Don’t give up if your dog is a slow learner, as a lot of dogs are.
Place a treat on your pet’s bed to reinforce how great it is for it to be there.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写词数应为150左右。
One late afternoon, Tina was driving on a highway when a severe snowstorm hit without
warning. In a short time, the heavy snow, coupled with the strong wind, turned everything into
and made the road extremely dangerous.
Tina later found out that this kind of storm is called a "Saskatchewan screamer”, which comes on extremely fast with high winds. It's really frightening and deadly to be caught in such extreme weather.
Unable to see the road clearly, Tina had to stop her car and call 911.The operator told her
that phone calls for help kept flooding in and all the rescuers had been called out. She suggested
that Tina should wait out the storm in her car rather than risk driving on or going out. She took
Tina's information and told her that an officer would call her back. Tina waited anxiously for almost two hours, but nobody called her yet to check in. “The storm showed no sign of stopping. What was worse, it was getting dark. I couldn't see anything outside the car since the snow had covered all the windows. The wind was still howling and the temperature was getting lower and lower in the car. I had no idea whom I could turn to for help," Tina later wrote in a Facebook post. “Alone and cold,I began to panic, worrying about getting hit by an oncoming vehicle, getting buried(埋没) in a snowbank, having my tailpipe blocked by the snow... I was really worried I couldn't ever make it home to my family."
That was when Tina realized that it was no use waiting passively for help. She decided to do
something herself. So she took out her cellphone, logged on to the Google Map and determined her location. She found online a neighborhood Facebook group for the area that she was passing
through and shared a comment about her trouble with her location marked on the map. Then all she could do next was sit in the car, praying someone could make a response to her as early as possible.
