“Did you forget your name ” someone asked me at a networking event a few years ago after it took me almost a minute to say it. “No, I stutter (口吃),” I politely replied. This is what I have to face every day. So I wasn’t upset.
I’ve stuttered since I was three years old. In my case, stuttering usually shows itself in terms of repetitions: “My name is S-S-S-S-Samuel.” Instead of being unhappy about the experience at the networking event, I felt proud that I’d brought up my stuttering. But I wasn’t always so forthcoming about it. When I was growing up, I hardly spoke. Whether it was at school or at work, I avoided most social situations out of embarrassment and fear of being laughed at.
But things became different after I attended the National Stuttering Association meeting, the largest gathering of stutterers worldwide. It was the first time I’d met so many other professionals who stutter—lawyers, doctors, actors, etc.—all in one place. To my surprise, everyone spoke without fear or embarrassment. In fact, they were proud. Stuttering was celebrated. That was when I first realized that stuttering isn’t something to be ashamed of. It’s just something I happen to do, and that’s okay.
The change didn’t happen overnight, but over the last eight years, I’ve started to bring up my stuttering more. I’ve talked to friends and co-workers. I’ve mentioned it in every organization I’ve worked for. And when I talk about it with others, it encourages them to open up, too. My stuttering has allowed me to connect with others and develop stronger ties with them.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s still frustrating when I know exactly what I want to say but I just can’t seem to get the words out of my mouth. But today I don’t let my stuttering hold me back. Instead, I let it push me forward and help me make progress.
24.By saying “I wasn’t always so forthcoming about it”, the author means ________.
A.he was once an outgoing person
B.he regretted talking about his stuttering
C.he used to avoid opening up about his stuttering
D.he was unwilling to receive comments on his speech
25.How did the National Stuttering Association meeting influence the author
A.He began to make friends with stutterers.
B.He learned some skills at stopping stuttering there.
C.It made him focus his attention on good comments.
D.The confident stutterers changed his attitude to stuttering.
26.What happened after the author started bringing up his stuttering
A.He has improved his work performance.
B.He became popular among his co-workers.
C.He learned to express himself with simple words.
D.He was able to build a close relationship with others.
27.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.The power of accepting my stutter B.The challenge from normal people
C.Special ways to live with stuttering D.My experience of overcoming stuttering

Social media is taking over our lives: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and now, TikTok. These social media platforms have changed from a way to stay connected to an industry where even kids can make money off their posts. While this may seem like another opportunistic innovation, it’s really full of hidden false realities.
The median income (中位收入) recorded in the United States of America was about $63,000 in 2018. TikTokers can make anywhere from $50,000 to $150,000 for a TikTok brand partnership, and TikTokers with over a million followers can make up to $30,000 a month—$360,000 a year. They are making more than the average person trying to feed their family and keep a roof over their heads simply by posting a 15-second video.
This is mad in more ways than one. Not only is it an overpaid “job”, it promotes undeserved admiration from viewers and a false sense of reality. Many of these famous TikTokers are still teens and the effects of fame at such an early stage in life might cause issues later in life, such as mental illness. Teens between the ages of 13 and 17 make up 27% of TikTok viewers, who can be easily influenced by what they are watching. They can put a false sense of self-value into who they look up to and what they represent: money, fame, being considered conventionally attractive.
While TikTok has become a great tool for marketing, it’s important to understand how this content affects young viewers. If we’re constantly consuming content that shows us all we need to do to be successful is be conventionally attractive and post a 15-second video featuring a new dance, it will challenge our knowledge of what really makes someone successful and will in turn affect our individual work ethnics (伦理). What about the people who miss birthdays and family holidays due to their jobs and aren’t getting paid nearly as much as these TikTokers
Richard Colyer, president and creator of Metaphor, Inc, had his own view on this issue. “It sounds great that kids can make money for doing the latest dance moves in a 15-second video, but we should feed the minds of kids and not just their bank accounts. TikTok can be great if used properly. Money alone is not good; technology alone is not good and connectedness can be bad if it is only online.”
Again, as a fellow consumer of TikTok, I do enjoy the app when I have some time to kill and need a good laugh. I’m not against someone making a living on entertainment, but what does getting famous by posting a 15-second video teach young people
28.What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 1 refer to
A.Social networking.
B.A job offered by TikTok.
C.Making money on social media.
D.Staying connected to the Internet.

30.Which is the possible influence of TikTok on its young users
A.They are likely to develop false values.
B.They tend to live an adult life too soon.
C.They are forced to pay for certain services.
D.They may stop believing other social media.
31.What did Richard Colyer stress according to his view
A.Contents of videos need checking before their release online.
B.We have a responsibility to supply teens with food for thought.
C.Young TikTokers should be banned from opening bank accounts.

D
There is increasing alarm about the extent of microplastic pollution, which has been found everywhere from Everest to the Arctic. However, it turns out there’s an even smaller and more toxic form of plastic pollution entering remote reaches of the globe. A new study published in Environmental Research found significant quantities of nanoplastics in ice samples from both the North and South Poles.
“Now we know that nanoplastics are transported to these comers of the Earth in these quantities. This indicates that nanoplastics are really a bigger pollution problem than we thought,” study lead author Dusan Materic said in a press release.
Nanoplastics are plastics that are smaller than a micrometer in size. Their small size means they are more difficult to study than microplastics, or plastics between five millimeters and a micrometer. But they may be even more dangerous.
“Nanoplastics are very toxicologically active compared to, for instance, microplastics, and that’s why this is very important,” Materic said.
Materic and his team used new methods to measure nanoplastic pollution in ice samples from Greenland and Antarctica. They sampled a 14-meter-deep ice core from the Greenland ice cap and sea ice from Antarctica’s McMurdo Sound. They found that there were an average of 13. 2 nanograms per milliliter of nanoplastics in the Greenland ice and an average of 52. 3 nanograms per milliliter in the Antarctic ice.
But what was even more surprising than the amount of nanoplastics in the remote ice was just how long they had sat there. “In the Greenland core, we see nanoplastic pollution happening all the way from the 1960s. So organisms, despite the lack of the solid evidence, likely all over the world, have been exposed to it for quite some time now,” Materic said.
The study also looked at the types of plastic present in the samples. Half of the Greenland nanoplastics were polyethylene (PE), the kind of plastic used for plastic bags and packaging. A quarter came from tires and a fifth were polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is used for clothing and bottles.
32.Why should researchers focus more on nanoplastics
A.They are more important to science.
B.They are smaller but more dangerous.
C.They are easily polluted by ocean water.
D.They are more active in cold surroundings.
33.What can we learn about nanoplastics
A.The North and South poles are the birthplace of nanoplastics.
B.Nanoplastics have less influence on the planet than microplastics.
C.Nanoplastics found in the samples are widely used in the daily life.
D.Nanoplastics have been existing since the 1960s throughout the world.
34.What does the underlined word “it” refer to in Paragraph 6
A.The Greenland core.
B.The Antarctic ice.
C.The amount of nanoplastics.
D.Nanoplastics pollution.
35.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.Microplastics-proving more dangerous.
B.Nanoplastics-making its way to the poles.
C.Nanoplastics-posing a threat to people’s life.
D.Microplastics-setting the alarm bells ringing.

I must admit, I haven’t always liked animals. In fact, I distrusted them greatly while growing up, and I still fear the ones I don’t know personally. What set my beliefs in stone was being attacked—not once but many times, including the summer after second grade when I was bitten by a rabbit. Then, when I was nine and riding my dirt bike down the road, a large dog charged me and tried to bite my ankle. After all those negative experiences, there was one thing I knew for sure: All creatures, great and small, were no friends of mine.
After college in California, I returned to live the single life in Las Vega. Then I met Lisa. In no time at all, we fell in love, married and moved into a new house. Despite my avoidance of animals, Lisa had a dog called Bailey. Bailey didn’t like me, but he tolerated my existence once he realized I wasn’t going anywhere.
Things changed as spring came. We welcomed a new member of our family: our son Evan. One evening Evan grabbed hold of the dog’s tail. The irritated dog paused and turned to look at his stuck tail but waited patiently until being released. Still the stories I’d heard of animals attacking babies worries me.
Then my worst fear occurred. I sat on the couch (沙发) reading after a long day while my wife worked at the dining-room table paying the bills. I saw Evan crawl across the family-room carpet as he made his way behind the couch. One minute, all was quiet and then Bailey entered the room and headed to where Evan had crawled. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard the dog start a fearful barking behind me.

W: It sounds as if you would do as well to go to Europe — possibly to France, Spain or Italy. There are excellent hotels, so many interesting sights to see and plenty of night clubs.
M: Well, you’ve convinced me. I’ll take a ticket to Paris. They say the night clubs are really wonderful too.
(Text 10)
M: Do you know when and how bicycles began Well, in the eighteenth century, cities became larger and larger. And people moved from the countryside and small towns to the cities because there was more work for them to do in the cities. On Sundays and holidays, they liked to leave the cities and have a good time in the countryside. But not every family had a horse. So people needed a simpler means of transportation, and inventors in many countries tried to solve this problem.
Therefore, the first bicycle, which was very simple, appeared in 1790 in France. People called it “the horse on wheels”, but it was difficult to ride and it also felt uncomfortable. Then in 1861, after many improvements being made, bicycles became a practical means of transportation. And people liked bicycles, because they were not as expensive as horses, and better still, they didn’t need to be fed. However, they could go anywhere and were easy to ride.

根据文章第二段中本句后文“When I was growing up, I hardly spoke. Whether it was at school or at work, I avoided most social situations out of embarrassment and fear of being laughed at.(在我成长过程中,我很少说话。无论是在学校还是在工作中,因害怕尴尬和被嘲笑,我会去避免社交。)”可知,作者的意思是他过去常常避免提及自己口吃的事情,也因为害怕尴尬和被嘲笑,而避免社交,故选C。
25.细节理解题。根据文章第三段“That was when I first realized that stuttering isn’t something to be ashamed of. It’s just something I happen to do, and that’s okay.(就在那时,我意识到,口吃并不是什么令人羞愧的事情,这只是我碰巧做的事情,没什么关系的。)”
根据文章倒数第二段“The change didn’t happen overnight, but over the last eight years, I’ve started to bring up my stuttering more. I’ve talked to friends and co-workers. I’ve mentioned it in every organization I’ve worked for. And when I talk about it with others, it encourages them to open up, too. My stuttering has allowed me to connect with others and develop stronger ties with them.(这种改变并不是一夜之间发生的,在过去的八年间,我开始更多地提到我的口吃。我和朋友和同事交流,在每个我工作的机构里,我都会提及我的口吃。当我与其他人提起时,也鼓励了他们与我交流。勇敢面对口吃让我敢于与其他人交流,也让我与其他人培养了紧密的联系。)”可知,在作者勇敢面对自己的口吃后,作者与其他人建立了紧密的联系,故选D。
27.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其文章最后一段“But today I don’t let my stuttering hold me back. Instead, I let it push me forward and help me make progress.(但是今天,我不再让我的口吃阻止我。

根据划线词前面的句子“These social media platforms have changed from a way to stay connected to an industry where even kids can make money off their posts. (这些社交媒体平台已经从一种保持联系的方式变成了一个连孩子都能从他们的帖子中赚钱的行业。)”以及,划线词所在的句子表示,虽然这个 看起来好像是投机取巧的创新,但是它实际充满了隐藏的虚假现实。由此推断划线词this指代的是“社交媒体上赚钱”这件事。故选C。
29.细节理解题。根据第二段中“TikTokers can make anywhere from $50,000 to $150,000 for a TikTok brand partnership, and TikTokers with over a million followers can make up to $30,000 a month—$360,000 a year. (抖音品牌合作伙伴的收入从5万美元到15万美元不等,粉丝超过100万的抖音每月可以赚3万美元,一年可以赚36万美元。)”可知,像抖音这样的社交媒体平台可以让人们获得过高的报酬。故选B。
30.推理判断题。根据倒数第三段中“If we’re constantly consuming content that shows us all we need to do to be successful is be conventionally attractive and post a 15-second video featuring a new dance, it will challenge our knowledge of what really makes someone successful and will in turn affect our individual work ethnics (伦理). (如果我们不断地消费这样的内容,告诉我们要想成功,我们所需要做的就是保持传统的吸引力,发布一段15秒的新舞蹈视频,这将挑战我们对真正让一个人成功的知识,反过来也会影响我们个人的职业道德。)”以及倒数第二段中“It sounds great that kids can make money for doing the latest dance moves in a 15-second video, but we should feed the minds of kids and not just their bank accounts. (孩子们在15秒的视频里跳最新的舞步就能赚钱,这听起来很棒,但我们应该培养孩子们的思想,而不仅仅是他们的银行账户。)”可知,如果抖音不断地宣传发布15秒钟舞蹈视频就能赚钱的思想,那么将会颠覆年轻人对成功的认知,产生不良影响。故推断,抖音会让年轻人形成错误的价值观。故选A。
根据倒数第二段中“It sounds great that kids can make money for doing the latest dance moves in a 15-second video, but we should feed the minds of kids and not just their bank accounts. (孩子们在15秒的视频里跳最新的舞步就能赚钱,这听起来很棒,但我们应该培养孩子们的思想,而不仅仅是他们的银行账户。)”可知,Richard Colyer 强调我们有责任为青少年提供精神食粮。故选B。

【导语】这是一篇说明文。发表在《环境研究》杂志上的一项新研究发现,北极和南极的冰样本中都含有大量的纳米塑料,纳米塑料污染正在出现在两极中。
32.细节理解题。根据第三段“Nanoplastics are plastics that are smaller than a micrometer in size. Their small size means they are more difficult to study than microplastics, or plastics between five millimeters and a micrometer. But they may be even more dangerous.(纳米塑料是尺寸小于1微米的塑料。它们的小尺寸意味着它们比微塑料(5毫米到1微米之间的塑料)更难研究。但它们可能更加危险。)”可知,研究人员应该更多地关注纳米塑料是因为它们更小但更危险。故选B。
33.细节理解题。根据最后一段“The study also looked at the types of plastic present in the samples. Half of the Greenland nanoplastics were polyethylene (PE), the kind of plastic used for plastic bags and packaging. A quarter came from tires and a fifth were polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is used for clothing and bottles.(该研究还研究了样本中存在的塑料类型。格陵兰岛一半的纳米塑料是聚乙烯(PE),一种用于塑料袋和包装的塑料。四分之一来自轮胎,五分之一是用于服装和瓶子的聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(PET)。)”可知,在样品中发现的纳米塑料在日常生活中被广泛使用。故选C。
34.词句猜测题。根据倒第二段最后一句中的“In the Greenland core, we see nanoplastic pollution happening all the way from the 1960s.(在格陵兰岛核心,我们看到纳米塑料污染从20世纪60年代开始一直在发生。)”
根据第一段“There is increasing alarm about the extent of microplastic pollution, which has been found everywhere from Everest to the Arctic. However, it turns out there’s an even smaller and more toxic form of plastic pollution entering remote reaches of the globe. A new study published in Environmental Research found significant quantities of nanoplastics in ice samples from both the North and South Poles.(人们越来越担心微塑料污染的程度,从珠穆朗玛峰到北极,到处都有这种污染。然而,事实证明,还有一种更小、毒性更大的塑料污染正在进入全球偏远地区。发表在《环境研究》杂志上的一项新研究发现,北极和南极的冰样本中都含有大量的纳米塑料。)”可知,文章主要是讲大量的纳米塑料出现在北极和南极的冰样本中。故选B。

39.根据空前“Your body will tell you if you are hydrated enough.”(你的身体会告诉你体内的水是否充足。)“You don't have to think about it or add up the ounces you drink.”(你不必思考这个问题也不必增加喝水量。)

Without hesitation, the dog rushed to attack the scorpion and killed it with one bite. It was such a close call. Lisa scooped up our crying child.
Having witnessed our dog killing a scorpion (蝎子) and saving my son, I was speechless. Unconsciously, tears rolled down my cheek. Without worry and fear any longer, I knelt down and gave that brave dog some kisses. Bailey seemed to have fully understood my feeling, he lay in my arms to comfort me. It was a crucial moment which showed how both human and beast can live in harmony. I had a new belief in love. It is that some animals are human’s good friends indeed.

C

通读全文,尤其文章最后一段“But today I don’t let my stuttering hold me back.
