Even if we gave our teaching with full passion and different strategies, most of our students didn't give us a full look.

However frequently we repeated the language points, students couldn't use them to pass the exams.

For top students, it's so hard to get more than 140.
Thinking: We need to classify our homework and let the students implement it in earnest.
Thinking: We took up more time to strike knowledge into the student's mind but ignored students-centered principle in self-learning.
Thinking: We just paid attention to teaching the essential but simple skills, which are not enough to form critical thinking pattern to defeat the exams.
Researches on NEMT
3 text themes:
Human and nature, Human and society, Human and himself.
19 texts:
10 listening texts, 5 reading texts, 2 filling-task texts, and 2 writing texts.
Characteristics of NEMT
1 testing rationale.
One core: the assessment system, based on "cultivate youngsters' moral, find out the talents and lead teaching and learning", answering "why to test in this way".
Four aspects: essential knowledge,
key competence, subject awareness, and central value, answering "what to test".
Four wings: fundamentality, comprehensiveness, applicability, and creativity, answering "how to test".

Detailed contrast of the recent three NEMT

From the chart, we can see these changes:

The number of questions in the second part:
2/2/4/4/3 in 2023 NEMT.
2/3/3/4/3 in the past two NEMT.
b. Human and society theme was largely added,
focusing on good interpersonal relationship
and friendly communication, stressing moral ,
labor and sports education.
c. Most questions were about "what" and "why".
Even one question about "how" was added.
d. The male anchor spoke English in London
accent with a lot of linking and splutter.
After listening to the texts, we found:
From the chart, we can conclude:
a. NEMT laid more importance on
critical thinking and high-level
reading, even including academic
essays (passage C and D ) in college
in this part.

b. There were more derivatives in 2023
NEMT,such as: minimalism,
intolerate, capitalizes, overestimate,
underestimate, correlate, dominate,
implications, predicting the test has
been transformed from literal level
to textual level.
From these tables, we can see:
Besides, some idiomatic presentations were included in 2023 NEMT, such as: “step aside”, and “bent down”.

and whole passage, meaning we
should pay attention to the three
principles in designing this testing
task---no value, no topic; no thought,
no proposition; no situation, no
question.

Based on the contrast, we can see these changes:

By comparing the writing tasks in recent three NEMT, we can see:
Creativity, critical thinking and comprehensive competence were needed to achieve the requirement.

After reading and comparing texts in this part during the recent 3 years, we can find a more flexible writing style and content.
( In the 1st given paragraph--The news ; In the 2nd given paragraph--The award presentation )

Prediction: 2024 NEMT tendency
Articles from foreign materials are a must.
Key competence, mainly critical thinking, is of vital importance.
Context usage function is the guide to test students’ discourse pragmatic competence.
Open situations are used to test how students deal with complex questions.
Learning how to recognize derivatives is very important.
