Before I came to China last autumn, I had spent several years studying Chinese language and culture, and I felt like I had a good overview of what might surprise me after moving here. However, certain things always managed to be out of range of textbooks and television shows.
Sometimes, I might stop and join a crowd gathering around a chess or card game. Then there were the occasions where I would pass by individuals watching TV dramas, or simply listening to classical music on a radio. Whenever I enter a park, there are always people exercising in various ways: from tai chi to sword dance. On the weekend, I often encounter a group dance with over a hundred participants, accompanied by few dozen onlookers who, like me, are perhaps too shy to join.
Remarkably, the one common aspect of all these experiences is that they are all from the older generation. The elderly in China are lively and have energetic lives. Even my old neighbor, who struggles to walk, still manages to climb down five floors to join his friends in the circle of chairs outside. They truly make good use of “public space”.
The younger generation, however, is less likely to partake in this form of public life. That is not to say there aren't young people out in public spaces, but rather that they don't employ these spaces in the same manner.
There is a saying in Norway that states, “We are all children of our time”, meaning we are all shaped by the time and space in which we grew up. The elderly in Norway do socialize, but not like their counterparts(对应的人) in China. When comparing these two cultures, I draw the conclusion that Chinese elders are far more socially active, and they fully embrace the concept of public space.
When I think about my retirement years, I imagine waking up early to get groceries, taking a walk in the park, doing some stretches, chatting a bit with my friends and joining a group dance—just as I observe them now.
24. What can we learn from paragraph 1&. 2
A. I made little preparation for what might surprise me in China.
B. I have completely adapted to the new life in China.
C. I often came across scenes beyond my expectations.
D. I always encounter certain things as I once imagined.
25. Why is my old neighbor mentioned in paragraph 3
A. To raise the topic of this passage. B. To provide more supporting evidence.
C. To prove the elderly like challenges in life. D. To arrive at a conclusion about the life of the elderly.
26. What can we infer about the life of the elderly in Norway
A. They make good use of public space. B. They are not as active as Chinese elders.
C. They seldom participate in social activities. D. They don't understand the concept of public space.
27. What kind of retirement life does the author expect
A. A life with leisure and comfort. B. A life of a typical native in Norway.
C. A life like that of retired people in China. D. A life of getting up very early to get groceries.
C
Natural springs are breathtakingly beautiful and delicate ecosystems that exist in harmony with their surroundings, and support diverse lives. However, the introduction of non-native species, such as pet fish, can have severe impacts on these habitats.
“Here, we have historically had a problem with people releasing their pet fish,” said Mike Bower, Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge manager. “I would love to share with the public that even though releasing their pets into the wild comes from a good place in their heart, releasing non-native pets causes destruction for our native species. We have species unique to this area, and there are no similar systems or habitats for our local species to live in. So, we want to ensure that people understand the consequences of introducing non-native animals here.”
Natural springs have evolved over time to sustain a delicate balance. Pet fish that are released into natural springs can outcompete local species for resources such as food, habitat and breeding space. Non-native fish can grow rapidly and reproduce at high rates, leading to a huge increase in population that negatively impact the local aquatic(水生的)community. This competition often results in native fish populations declining rapidly or even facing extinction, disrupting the natural food chain and impacting other organisms dependent on them for food.
“Besides pet fish, aquatic invaders commonly found in aquariums, such as snails, can present a major issue. Once established, these organisms can change the ecosystem from the bottom up,” said Ambre Chaudoin, a fish biologist. “Effects can range from direct impacts to algae(水藻) to altering nutrient cycling, further affecting native fish and the food community on which they depend.”
“None of our native spring fishes have evolved with predators, so they don't possess those survival skills required to avoid predation or even compete very well for food resources,” said Chaudoin. “The releasing of pet fish and other species into natural springs can have serious consequences on these fragile ecosystems.”
28. What does Mike Bower advise people to do
A. change the habitats for local species.
B. release non-native animals out of kindness.
C. make pet fish live in harmony with native species.
D. understand the results of releasing non-native animals.
29. What does the underlined word “outcompete” mean in paragraph 3
A. outgrow B. outweigh C. outnumber D. outperform
30. What's the attitude of Ambre Chaudoin towards the releasing of non-native species
A. Opposed B. Unclear C. Favourable D. Indifferent
31. Which one can be the best title for the passage
A. Natural springs are in danger of drying up.
B. Natural springs are becoming bio-diverse.
C. The introduction of non-native species poses a danger to natural springs.
D. The introduction of non-native species brings benefits to natural springs.

World No Tobacco Day is observed around the world annually on May 31st. It is a global initiative led by the World Health Organization(WHO) to raise awareness about the health risks associated with tobacco use and to advocate for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.
Tobacco use is a leading cause of preventable deaths worldwide and is responsible for numerous health problems, including various types of cancer, heart disease, respiratory diseases, and other chronic conditions. Currently, more than 8 million deaths are caused annually worldwide, including 1. 2 million deaths from second-hand smoke exposure in non-smokers.
The Member States of the WHO created World No Tobacco Day in 1987 to draw global attention to the tobacco and the preventable death and disease it causes. On World No Tobacco Day, numerous activities and initiatives take place globally to promote tobacco control. These can include public awareness campaigns, educational programs in schools and communities, smoking cessation support, advocacy for stronger tobacco control policies, and various events to encourage individuals to quit smoking.
Each year, the WHO chooses a specific theme for World No Tobacco Day to focus on a particular aspect of tobacco control. The theme may address issues such as the impact of tobacco on lung health, the dangers of tobacco industry marketing strategies, or the importance of providing assistance to individuals who want to quit smoking. This theme then becomes the central component of the WHO's tobacco-related agenda for the following year. The WHO oversees the creation and distribution of publicity materials related to the theme, including brochures, fliers, posters, websites, and press releases.
The ultimate objective of World No Tobacco Day is to raise awareness, encourage individuals to quit tobacco use, and prevent young people from starting smoking. Since
1988, the WHO has presented one or more awards to organizations or individuals who have made exceptional contributions to reducing tobacco consumption.

When I was in my teens, my parents, my sister and I led a life on the move because of my father's job. We had to move from one place to another. Mom was a homemaker, and my sister was an art teacher. Because Dad had to transfer every three years, which meant we often moved. The constant shifting due to my father's job made my schooling experience quite terrible. I found myself adapting to new environments and befriending new peers repeatedly, which often left me feeling lonely.
One Saturday, I accompanied Daniel, my friend, to his home. The moment my friend pushed the door open, his pet dog enthusiastically greeted him by licking his face. Curious and amazed at the dog's behavior, I asked Daniel why his pet behaved in such a manner. Daniel explained that his dog was expressing love in this way. He told me that though animals didn't have the ability to speak, they had emotions. His words deeply moved me and fueled my desire to adopt a pet dog as my companion.
Upon returning home, I told Mom and sister about Daniel's pet dog and shared my hope for a pet. Mom warned that if I chose to have a dog, the responsibility of caring for it would be mine. My sister thought the idea of having a dog was delightful and offered her support. However, convincing my father would be the real challenge. Our family was strictly vegetarian, and Dad clearly knew that dogs required non-vegetarian food for proper nourishment and growth. So as I could expect, he would be opposed to keeping a pet dog.
In the following days, I tried to find a suitable occasion to tell Dad that I wanted to keep a pet dog. His answer was a firm NO. A week later, on my way home, I spotted a poor homeless dog with an injured leg. It appeared hungry, weak and helpless. Driven by pity, I decided to bring the poor dog home and named it “Lucky”.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
From the day Lucky arrived at my home, I took the responsibility to look after him.

However, certain things always managed to be out of range of textbooks and television shows
第三段第二句 “The elderly in China are lively and have energetic lives” 是 topic sentence, 总结 了中国老年人过着有活力、精力充沛的生活。 “Even my old neighbor, who struggles to walk, still manages to climb down five floors to join his friends in the circle of chairs outside.” To provide more supporting evidence。
根据第五段第二句、第三句 “The elderly in Norway do socialize, but not like their counterparts (对应的人) in China. When comparing these two cultures, I draw the conclusion that Chinese elders are far more socially active, and they fully embrace the concept of public space.

在最后一段的最后一句 “The releasing of pet fish and other species into natural springs can have profound consequences on these fragile ecosystems.”

The Craftsman in My Heart
The craftsman in my heart is a famous scientist named Yuan Longping, who is known as the “Father of Hybrid Rice”. He devoted his entire life to improving the yields of rice and ensuring food security for people in our country and around the world.
Deeply aware of the importance of food, he studied agriculture at university. After graduation, he started a lifelong journey to develop high-yielding hybrid rice varieties. Through years of intense efforts, Yuan Longping successfully bred the world's first hybrid rice variety in 1973, which significantly increased rice yields.

第二节
One possible version:
From the day Lucky arrived at my home, I took the responsibility to look after him. I first had him checked by an
experienced vet, who treated his injured leg with great care. Gradually, Lucky's injured leg healed. He became happy and healthy with love and care from my sister and me. He kept us company and made our life colorful and interesting. Every day, when we went back home, he always licked us with pleasure. When Mom or Dad returned home, he would greeted them with a wagging tail.
Gradually, I found Dad's attitude to Lucky changed. Sometimes, he took Lucky in his arms or fed him with non-
vegetarian food, which was a great change for Dad, a pure vegetarian. He also played games with Lucky and taught him some instructions. Lucky was a smart learner and knew how to respond to different instructions, bringing great joy to us. We love Lucky and he brings happiness and pleasure to us in return!
