Step I Reading before class
Have Ss read the words and phrases in the wordlist in this unit on Page104-105(under the weather- diagram) after the computer. Then have them read by themselves.
Step II Lead-in
1. T greets Ss and asks them the following questions:

2.T shows Ss a picture of tai chi and asks them a question.
T: How much do you know about tai chi Can you share something with us
If you are invited to join a Tai Chi club, would you like to join
Why or why not
Step III Group work
Task One Fast Reading
T asks Ss to find out the structure of the article.
Part I (para.1) General introduction to the author’s experience of learning tai chi

Task Two Detailed Reading
Read para. 2 and answer:

What are the two different explanations for the origin of tai chi
Possible answer:
One is related to Zhang Sanfeng, a 13th-century Taoist. It is said that he invented tai chi after drawing inspiration from a fight between a snake and a bird.
The other is that tai chi was developed based on martial arts skills by a 17th-century master of Chinese martial arts--Chen Wangting.
Read para. 4 and complete the chart.
