(22-23八年级下·湖北孝感·期中)At the age of 16, Einstein didn’t study enough and failed (不及格) in several subjects because he always mixed with a group of “bad” kids. One morning, when he was about to go fishing with those kids, his father stopped him and said, “Einstein, you were so addicted to (沉迷于) playing all day that you failed your exams. I’m worried about your future.”
“What are you worrying about Jack and Robert also failed, but don’t they still go fishing ”
“My boy, you can’t think that,” Looking at Einstein, his father said lovingly, “There goes a story in our hometown. Now I’d like to tell it to you.”
“There were two cats playing on the roof. Suddenly, one cat fell into the chimney (烟囱) holding the other cat. When the two cats climbed out of the chimney, one cat had soot (烟灰) on its face while the other’s face was clean. Seeing the soot-faced cat, the clean cat thought its face was dirty, so it quickly ran to the riverside and washed its face. The soot-faced cat saw the clean-faced cat, thinking its own face was also clean, so it just hung out in the street without washing its face.”
“Einstein, no one can be your mirror. Only you are your own mirror. Taking other people to be your mirror, even a genius (天才) may become a fool (傻瓜).”
Hearing this, Einstein’s face turned red. He put down his fishing net and returned to his room. Since then, Einstein often took himself as a mirror and kept telling himself, “I am special, so I needn’t be as common as others.” This was why Einstein succeeded.
Different lifestyles and wishes will lead to different attitudes (态度) towards life. You can consult other people’s attitudes to decide your own, but you can never follow others completely. You must see yourself clearly and know what you really want. Your future doesn’t depend on how others act, but on what you are going to do.

(22-23八年级下·湖北鄂州·期中)Scientists in Japan have developed electric chopsticks (筷子) that are designed to help people cut down on salt. Though human bodies need salt, many people eat far too much of it, which is unhealthy. It’s well known that eating too much salt can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease and so on. The special chopsticks use a tiny bit of electricity (电) to make food seem saltier than it is.
Kirin, a Japanese company that sells food and drink, worked with researchers at Miyashita Laboratory to develop the chopsticks. The chopsticks have a battery pack that can be worn on the wrist (戴在手腕). When the tips of the chopsticks are put in the mouth, a very light electric current (电流)—too small to be felt as a shock—changes the way the tongue (舌头) tastes certain chemicals.
Experiments showed that with the chopsticks, food could have up to 30% less salt and still taste just as salty. So far Kirin hasn’t announced (宣告) plans to sell the chopsticks. But it is looking into ways the technology could be used with other eating utensils (餐具), including spoons.

45.What can we infer (推断) from the passage
A.No technology, no life. B.Technology can change lives.
C.Chopsticks play an important role in our life. D.The less salt you eat, the healthier you will be.

Just a few days after his 18th birthday, Beijing 2022 gold medal winner Su Yiming received a surprise gift—a letter from Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China.
In the letter, Xi expressed his congratulations (祝贺) to Su and other sportsmen in ice and snow sports for their great achievements (成就) at the Beijing Winter Olympics, hoping what they had achieved would encourage young Chinese to aim (立目标) high.
When Su first stepped onto a snowboard at the age of four, a future as a world-class sportsman seemed to be “a dream too big” for him. Little did he know that he would not only compete for his country but also take home the gold medal. With the great excitement of winning an Olympic gold medal still fresh in his mind, Su wrote a letter to the president, telling him how lucky he felt to have made his dream come true.
Su still remembers what Xi wrote in the reply, “The new era is the time for young people to realize their dreams.”
“I have always kept those words in my mind,” Su said.
“When I made up my mind to be a professional (职业的) snowboarder, I know there is a big difference between my performance and that of the top sportsmen in the world. But I have been working hard to realize my dream. Now my story shows the fact that hard work will pay off.” Su said.
Su believes the sky is the limit. “Find the thing you love, believe in yourself and do your best. Finally, your dream will come true.”
Now Su has his strong wish to win all the competitions in his sporting field.

【答案】例文
Dear Cathy,
It’s normal for you to feel nervous and worried because of some changes in your life. Here are some suggestions about how to plan your life and study under the “double reduction”policy.
First of all, I think you should spend at least one hour doing exercise every day so that you can have a strong body. It can also help you study better. What’s more, you’re friendly to others. Why don’t you be a volunteer to help children learn to read in an after-school reading program The most important is that you’d better study English harder to improve it. If you meet some problems, you can ask your teachers or classmates for help.
I hope you can work out your problems and feel better.
Yours,
Robert

二、阅读理解(共两节20小题;每小题2分,满分40)
第一节(共15小题,每小题2分。满分30分)

B.the clean cat took itself as a mirror
C.the soot-faced cat washed its face by the riverside

39.How did Einstein feel after hearing the story
A.Ashamed (羞愧的). B.Bored. C.Excited. D.Nervous.

B.To tell his son to keep away from bad kids and make friends with clever ones.

D.To tell his son to be different from others and not to accept others’ advice.

42.What is the purpose (目的) of developing electric chopsticks
A.To help people cut down on salt.

C.To help people realize the dangers of eating more salt.

45.What can we infer (推断) from the passage
A.No technology, no life. B.Technology can change lives.
C.Chopsticks play an important role in our life. D.The less salt you eat, the healthier you will be.
46.What’s the best title for the passage
A.Eat less salt to become healthier B.Use electric chopsticks to get healthier
C.Buying electric chopsticks is a good choice D.Cut down on salt with electric chopsticks
