David Howard is coming to China for the first time for business. He is going through Customs Inspection. He is bringing with him1000, a camera, a bottle of whisky and a carton of cigarettes.
CO: Anything to declare
David Howard: Oh, I’m not quite sure about it. I bring only $1000, a camera, a bottle of whisky and a carton of cigarettes. Do I need to declare any of them
CO: The camera seems new. Is it for your own use5

CO: According to the Chinese regulations, if you don’t bring it back, you must pay duty on it.

Read the following passage and do the exercises.
When entering or leaving a foreign country, passengers have to go through the customs formalities . They shall be subject to customs control . Passengers may follow some common rules in different countries, but there are also some different and specific regulations in different countries. In China, passengers shall follow regulations in accordance with Customs Law of the People's Republic of China .

Luggage carried by passengers coming to and going out of China shall be declared to the customs honestly and must go through the customs. There are two channels for passengers to choose to go through the customs — “Having-things-to-declare Channel” and “Nothing-to-declare Channel” . Passengers need to choose the proper channel. Passengers who do not know how to choose the proper channel should go through the “Having-things-to-declare Channel” .

Luggage carried by passengers shall be limited to reasonable quantities for personal use . The part or amount above the limitation set by the customs shall be paid duty on. Take liquor as an example. Two bottles of liquor are the limitation.
