As we enter the ninth grade, our studies become more nervous, and it’s important to find ways to relax. There are many ways to relax ourselves after a busy day.
Some choose to listen to music, others prefer watching TV programmes or movies, and some find joy in reading novels or magazines. For me, I choose to listen to music. I usually spend about an hour on it every day. Music has a magical effect on me. It not only helps me relax but also provide s me with inspiration for my studies. I can learn different cultures and languages from all types of music. I believe that it is worth spending some time relaxing ourselves.
Relaxation is not a waste of time. It is wonderful to both our physical and mental health. It helps us bravely face the challenges of life with a fresh mind. In conclusion, different people have different ways to relax. It is better to find the one that suits you best and make it a part of your daily life. Remember, a balanced life is a happy life.

Chen Yuanchun is a teacher at a rural (乡村的) primary school in Cangyuan, Yunnan Province. The 44-year-old woman teaches Chinese, but she is very interested in computer technology. She has introduced coding (编程) to her students as an important information technology skill.
Chen’s connection to coding began in November 2018. She became one of the first teachers in Cangyuan to take training courses on coding. The training was challenging for a beginner like Chen. She needed to learn how to tell a machine to perform actions and finish tasks through different orders. She worked very hard because she believed this skill would be useful for her students.
After the training, Chen started a new group in her school to teach the students coding, but some parents opposed her plan. They didn’t understand what coding was and thought Chen was teaching their children to play video games on the computer.
So, Chen could only teach students of her own class at first. For teens, coding does not include writing difficult coding languages. Instead, Chen taught them how to create interesting animations (动画片) and games.
After only one term, every student was able to create something through coding. Learning coding also helped them become more creative and improved their problem-solving skills.

What is this Japanese ikebana(花道) No, it’s Chinese traditional flower arrangement. They seem similar, but actually different.
Recalling experiences in flower arrangement competitions abroad, Zhang Yan, a master and an inheritor(传承人)of Chinese traditional flower arrangement, said her works were often mistaken for ikebana. Zhang sighed,“We need more publicity(宣传)on Chinese traditional flower arrangement.” Zhang hopes to do her part to introduce the art form.
Inheritance from history
The art of Chinese traditional flower arrangement has been handed down since1046 BC. Historical records show it has served as offerings at temples, decorations in the palaces and art at homes.
“It has a history of more than 3,000 years, but the flower arrangement is limited to the bouquets(花束)in flower shops,” Zhang said. Because of that, Zhang began to study historical records on flower arrangement in China. “If people are familiar with the history of Chinese traditional flower arrangement, they would definitely feel proud of its centuries-old history, and think about why it’s not as well-known as ikebana, and find ways to give it a new life.”
In 2008, Chinese traditional flower arrangement was included in the second batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. To Zhang, it is the art form’s rich historical meaning that makes it heritage, and this national acceptance leads to more public understanding.
The future
Today, more and more people are learning Chinese traditional flower arrangement, not just professional florists(花艺师)but also those who take it as a hobby, even little kids. “I hope we can continue to hold an ability to appreciate the beauty in our life,” Zhang added.
Chinese traditional flower arrangement is not only a decoration, but can also serve as a form of therapy for modern busy bees.
“Different from its Western counterpart, Chinese traditional flower arrangement highlights simplicity,” Zhang said. The arranger must decide on what is truly necessary in his or her work and remove the rest. Sometimes learners are moved to tears because they begin to think what is truly necessary in their life.
“Today’s people often take no notice of the really important things in life,” said Zhang. The healing effect of Chinese traditional flower arrangement is realized when the arrangers finally understand what they truly need.
In Zhang’s view, Chinese traditional flower arrangement can give us more besides its healing effect, and the most important lies in the exploration of traditional Chinese culture.
“It comes from traditional Chinese culture, and it is part of it,” Zhang argued.“Only when it absorbs nutrition(营养)from traditional Chinese culture can it bloom and be world-known.”
“Our mission is to develop and inherit traditional Chinese culture,”Zhang added.
