"Please calm down and sit," said Mr. Johnson, "I'm glad everyone's here for the final reading test of the year." When everyone cried, Mr. Johnson laughed, saying it was just a joke. Then he reminded us that we still had a job to do. "You need to clean out your desks and put all your things into your backpacks," he added gently.
As we began our task,Mr. Johnson turned on the CD player. The lively music made the room feel like a party. Some of us started singing along with the music, and others were dancing around their desks while they were cleaning them out. Even Mr. Johnson showed us a few dance steps, making everyone laugh heartily. Feel down Hug a tree! Recently, many Chinese young people have turned to
trees to help with their stress. Sounds strange 36
It can be explained by the “biophilia hypothesis(亲生命假说)”. It was pointed out by the US scientist Edward Wilson in 1984. He said that humans are born to love being around other living things. 37 This idea helps to explain why people prefer natural and green places to cities. It's also one of the reasons why people love cute pets.
38 A study in 2021 reported that the activity can increase oxytocin(催产素).The higher the level of oxytocin is, the quieter and happier you may be. Hugging trees for only 21 seconds can lead to an increase in it. Another one is called cortisol(皮质醇)that is a sign of stress. 39 Hugging trees helps cut cortisol production, which makes us feel better.
Although the activity is helpful to us, it's important to keep in mind that we shouldn't hurt nature while doing it.Many living things live on the trees. 40 You should be soft when hugging trees - just like how you hug a friend!根据材料内容,从下面五个选项中选出能填入文中空缺处的最佳选项,使文章意思通顺、内容完整。
A. They are too small to be seen.
B. Humans’ love for nature is “in our DNA”.
C. There's science behind the act of tree-hugging.
D. Some studies have looked into why tree-hugging can help with our health.
E. The brain produces more of it when the person is worried, angry, or very sad.
