Whether you prefer action, romance, comedy, or horror, there’s bound to be something that catches your interest. Here are some good DVDs to watch!
An American Werewolfin London (DVD)
4.75 Free postage
In the black comedy, two American students (David Naughton and Griffin Dunne) on a European holiday wander into a local pub and are quickly thrown out. Little do they know that they are about to be changed forever. Horrible makeup effects (by Oscar winner Rick Baker), clever editing, and humor made this thrilling horror movie an instant classic.
Ghost Town (DVD)
0.99+ 0.96 for postage
Co-written and directed by David Koepp, Ghost Town is one of those romantic comedies that do their best not to look and sound like a romantic comedy. It offers no kisses, no declarations of love. This is a light comedy full of dark people. We don’t even like the two leads: Pincus is awful and Frank is worse. The film may not end in a kiss, but it does end in a need for love.
Brewster’s Millions (DVD)
6.99+ 23. 80 for postage
Could you spend $30 million in 30 days That’s exactly what Richard Pryor has to accomplish in this comedy. He inherits $300 million, but only if he can spend $30 million in a single month. If he fails, it’s back to zero again. This film is directed by Walter Hill, and it tickles the funny bones of all ages.
Spike Island (DVD)

Last week, my friends and I got together to eat delicious baked chicken wings in our college town. We hadn’t been together for quite a while, so it was nice to share summer plans with each other.
These chats, however, do not allow for deeper conversations, especially if someone is uncomfortable sharing personal troubles in a large crowd. After the dinner, three of us got desserts-sea salt ice cream and pearl milk tea. I noticed that my friend, David, was hovering a bit, seemingly not wanting to go as if he wanted, or needed, our company at that time.
Earlier that night during the dinner, he had also said his second year in college was really rough, so I asked him about his experience again. This time the floodgates of emotions opened, and he shared with us issues of mental health he had been dealing with throughout the year with his academic research and his relationship with his roommates.
My other friend and I were ready to leave, but I asked my friend if we could stay. We did, and we spent another 30 minutes listening to his story of mental suffering, pressure, anxiety and depression. He seemed to have so much to say that we didn’t get any chance to say anything, let alone offering suggestions. We just lent an ear and nodded when necessary.
Later that night, David texted both of us saying how thankful he was that we spent time with him. I wrote the following in my diary that day: "Being attentive and caring about an individual can truly make one’s day. It doesn’t have to be a fancy gift. Time to listen may sometimes be the best gift of all."
24. What did they do when they were together
A.They studied together. B. They shared summer plans.
C. They watched a movie. D. They played sports together.
25. What does the underlined phrase "hovering a bit" probably mean
A. Flying in the air. B. Standing still in one place.
C. Moving around quickly. D. Feeling uncertain or hesitant.
26. What did David share with the author and his friend after they decided to stay
A. His favorite dessert. B. His new part-time job.
C. His mental health struggles. D. His summer vacation plans.
27. What can we infer from David’s text message and the author’s diary entry
A. David prefers to receive some material gifts.
B. David does not enjoy spending time with his friends.
C. David values the time and attention given by his friends.
D. David often shares his personal troubles with large groups.

For the past weeks, melting snow and heavy spring rains have caused the Missouri River to rise above normal levels, flooding parts of Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, and South Dakota. Thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes to escape the flood.
The Missouri River is the second longest river in the United States. It is the longest river that feeds into the Mississippi River. Residents (居民) in areas along the Missouri River have been building temporary levees (防洪堤) along the river. They hope that the levees will prevent the river water from overflowing. On Monday morning, however, several levees in northern Missouri broke.
Because of the broken levees, the Missouri River came close to forcing the shutdown of nuclear power plant (核电站) in Brownville, Nebraska. There, the river rose to 900.5 feet. If it rose 18 more inches, officials would have been forced to close the plant for safety reasons. This nuclear plant had been preparing for possible flooding since May 30th. Workers used over 5,000 tons of sand to construct barricades around the plant. Luckily, the river stopped rising in time and the plant remained open. "We knew the river was going to rise for some time," Nebraska Public Power District spokesman Mark Becker said. "It was just a matter of when."
Engineers and weather forecasters predict that the river will rise as much as five to seven feet above flood level in Nebraska and Iowa and up to ten feet above the level in Missouri. They think the river will stay high until August. The U.S. government has agreed to give billion in emergency money to repair broken levees and areas damaged by the flooding along the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.
28. What is the primary purpose of the temporary levees built by residents
A. To collect rainwater. B. To stop river water from overflowing.
C. To generate electricity. D. To offer a walking path for residents.
29. What can be inferred about the preparation efforts at the nuclear power plant in Brownville, Nebraska
A. They took measures to prevent flooding.
B. They were confident the river would not rise.
C. They didn’t make any preparations but waited.
D. They ignored the warnings about the rising river.
30. What conclusion can we draw from the last paragraph
A. Nebraska’s flooding is expected to be worse than Missouri’s.
B. The increase in river levels will have little effect on nearby areas.
C. The US government’s response showed the serious outcome of the floods.
D. Experts are quite confident that the flooding will come to an end in August.
31. What’s the main idea of this passage
A. The impact of the flood on a nuclear power plant.
B. The actions taken by U.S. government in the face of flood.
C. The connection between the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.
D. The flooding and damage caused by the rising Missouri River.

For years, scientists believed that the only way oxygen could be created in the ocean was through photosynthesis In the sunlit upper ocean, large amounts of oxygen are produced. However, in the dark depths of the ocean, scientists expected oxygen levels to drop as animals use up the oxygen for energy.
But in 2013, scientist Andrew Sweetman noticed something strange. When he measured the oxygen levels in the water above the ocean floor, he found that the oxygen levels were rising. This didn’t reasonable.
Dr. Sweetman initially thought his equipment wasn’t working. In 2021, he used a different method to measure the oxygen levels again. The new measurements also showed rising oxygen levels. That’s when he realized something unusual was happening. Somehow, oxygen was being created on the dark ocean floor.
Many companies in various countries are interested in mining the sea bottom in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone. This area is rich in small, rock-like objects filled with valuable metals called "polymetallic nodules (多金属结核)", which form naturally on the ocean floor over millions of years. Dr. Sweetman suspected that these nodules might be responsible for the "dark oxygen" he observed.
To understand how the oxygen was being created, Dr. Sweetman collected samples of the nodules and took them back to the laboratory for study. At first, scientists thought tiny organisms called microbes (微生物) might be producing the oxygen. Then they considered the possibility that the nodules themselves were releasing oxygen. However, neither idea was correct. Finally, Dr. Sweetman wondered if the nodules were acting like batteries and producing electricity. This idea made sense because when electricity passes through salt water, It breaks down the water into hydrogen and oxygen. With help from other scientists, Dr. Sweetman found that the nodules do make a small amount of electricity. When the nodules are close to each other, they make enough electricity to produce the oxygen he saw.
Scientists believe that these nodules play an important role in the deep-sea ecosystem. They are concerned that deep-sea mining could destroy the nodules and the environment around them. Therefore, We need to think carefully before starting mining activities.
32. According to the passage, what did Dr. Sweetman find when he measured the oxygen levels in 2013
A. Oxygen levels were zero. B. Oxygen levels were stable.
C. Oxygen levels were increasing. D. Oxygen levels were decreasing.
33. Why did Dr. Sweetman initially think his equipment wasn’t working
A. He expected oxygen levels to rise. B. He expected oxygen levels to drop.
C. He expected the equipment to fail. D. He expected no change in oxygen levels.
34. What can we know from the paragraph 5
A. Nodules might improve water quality quickly.
B. Nodules could enhance the growth of microbes.
C. Nodules may increase the marine biodiversity.
D. Nodules could produce electricity and oxygen.
35. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage
A. Discovering Dark Oxygen Sources B. Deep-Sea Mining and Its Impact
C. The Importance of Photosynthesis D. The Role of Microbes in Oxygen

21. C 文章中提到,“Horrible makeup effects (by Oscar winner Rick Baker), clever editing, and humor made this thrilling horror movie an instant classic.”
22. D 文章中提到,“Could you spend $30 million in 30 days That's exactly what Richard Pryor has to accomplish in this comedy. He inherits $300 million, but only if he can spend $30 million in a single month. If he fails, it's back to zero again.”
根据题干中的“music” 定位到最后一段的“Five rebellious young men from Manchester with guitars have an ambition to forget school..”;再根据其价钱“ 10.26+ 23.34, for postage”可知,总价为 33.6 英磅。
Last week, my friends and I got together to eat delicious baked chicken wings in our college town. We hadn't been together for quite a while, so it was nice to share summer plans with each other.
D 文章中第二段提到,“I noticed that my friend, David, was hovering a bit, seemingly not wanting to go as if he wanted, or needed, our company at that time.”
C 文章中第三段提到,“He shared with us issues of mental health he had been dealing with throughout the year with his academic research and his relationship with his roommates.”
28. B 文章中第二段提到,“Residents in areas along the Missouri River have been building temporary levees along the river. They hope that the levees will prevent the river water from overflowing.”
29. A 文章中第三段提到,“This nuclear plant had been preparing for possible flooding since May 30th. Workers used over 5,000 tons of sand to construct barricades around the plant.”
32. C 根据文章第二段的内容:“But in 2013, scientist Andrew Sweetman noticed something strange. When he measured the oxygen levels in the water above the ocean floor, he found that the oxygen levels were rising.”
Sweetman initially thought his equipment wasn’t working. In 2021, he used a different method to measure the oxygen levels again. The new measurements also showed rising oxygen levels. That's when he realized something unusual was happening.”
Dr. Sweetman found that the nodules do make a small amount of electricity. When the nodules are close to each other, they make enough electricity to produce the oxygen he saw.
