Jeff Steele was born in Texas and grew up in Mississippi. A gifted singer, Jeff began writing songs when he was in high school. “I was going to be the next Lionel Richie,” he recalls with a smile. In time, however, Jeff began to write songs, and in the early 1980s formed a group called The Steeles. Within a decade, not only had the group signed a recording contract with Daywind Records, but Jeff became a staff writer for the label and moved his family to Nashville, Tennessee.

Not only does Jeff write for his group, but he also has his songs recorded by other artists that include Greater Vision, The Florida Boys, The Perrys, The Gaither Vocal Band and others. The Summer Olympics in Paris is always impressive, but 2024 promised something extraordinary even before the games began–the seats you are sitting on! Made from locally recycled plastic, these seats are sustainability champions in their own right.
The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics made history in terms of sustainability, as 11,000 stadium seats made entirely of recycled plastic are used during the water sports. The plastic used for the seats was collected from recycling bins in the Seine-Saint-Denis neighborhood, and 80% of the 100 metric tons needed for the seats came from this area. The collected plastic was cut and torn into small pieces, processed and turned into new material by a local recycling firm called Le Pavé.
After the base materials are produced into plastic seats with different colors, the seats have gone through numerous tests, including mechanical resistance, fire resistance, as well as UV resistance. The recycled plastic chairs proved to be strong and durable, with producers reporting no problems in the production process.
The use of recycled plastic seats is part of Paris and France’s commitment to sustainability, with the goal of reducing downstream emissions (排放) by 50% compared to the 2012 and 2016 games. Additionally, the city is working to fight against environment worsening by making the Seine River swimmable for the first time in decades, in an effort to host the triathlon (铁人三项) there.
The recycled plastic seats not only promote sustainability but also raise awareness about waste recycling, with children being encouraged to throw their plastic bottles into appropriate bins. The Paris Olympics’ use of recycled plastic seats demonstrates the potential of a circular economy, where waste is repurposed and reused, ultimately reducing the amount of plastic waste in landfills and oceans.

Nvidia is in an enviable (令人羡慕的) position. Its core business is designing high-performance chips. At first it sold these to video-game lovers. The chips were also highly efficient at training AI models, and a new, booming market emerged.
Nvidia also had the forethought to invest in two areas that helped strengthen its dominance (支配地位). One is advanced networking. Because training AI models requires vast amounts of processing power, many chips–sometimes thousands–are used at the same time. These chips exchange data along a high-performance, AI-tailored network.
Nvidia’s other strength is its software. CUDA, its AI platform, is popular with programmers and runs only on the company’s chips. For instance, by giving free access to its chips and software to some AI researchers, the firm focused on encouraging developers to use its software long before its competitors set out to woo them.
Despite all these advantages, however, Nvidia’s lasting dominance is not assured. New companies and big chipmakers want a share of Nvidia’s network and chip businesses. You may think that America is a free country and that Americans kiss their friends. Well, it is. But if you kiss the wrong person, you might get into trouble. This is what happened to John, a six-year-old primary school pupil, who did he kiss. He kissed a girl on the cheek in the school. They were in the same class. However, a teacher sighed and told the headmaster who thought that John should be punished. John was told to leave his classroom and stayed in another classroom by himself. When John’s mother knew about this, she became very angry. She wanted that headmaster to tell her why the school punished her son for kissing another six-year-old girl. “The girl asked him to kiss her and he did this only to show friendship, what’s wrong with this ” She said. The headmaster thought that it was wrong of a boy to kiss the girl, even though they were only six years old. “It is stated clearly in the student handbook. It is unwelcome behavior.” The headmaster said.
