On the Tower at Youzhou
Where are the great men of the past
And where are those of future years
The sky and earth forever last;
Here and now I alone shed (流) tears.
Traveling not only opens our eyes but also gives us a chance to think and express our feelings. On the Tower at Youzhou, written by Chen Zi’ang (661-702) in the Tang Dynasty, is an example.
Chen wrote this poem in 696. At that time, he was upset in his army career (生涯) under the rule of Empress Wu Zetian. He climbed to the top of Youzhou Tower and was amazed by the view of the earth and sky. He couldn’t help wondering where the great men of the past and future are.
Compared to the universe, the poet felt that people are small and unimportant. What lasts forever is the vast(广阔的)earth and sky. Nobody can be free from death. Even so, Chen still wanted to serve his country and people in his short life. But the rulers didn’t see his talents, so Chen felt sad and shed tears alone.
With the sincere (真挚的) feelings that fit the setting, Chen created a moving, sad scene in the poem. It is sad but not discouraging (令人气馁的). His language is simple but carries deep meaning. That’s why the poem is still popular now.

Jo was the first to wake. She remembered her mother’s promise, and, putting her hand under her pillow(枕头), drew out a little red-covered book. She loved it. She woke Meg up and asked her to see what was under her pillow. A green-covered book appeared. Then Beth and Amy woke, to find their little books also.
“Girls,” said Meg seriously, “Mother wants us to read and love these books, and we must begin at once. I shall read a little every morning, for I know it will do me good.”
And then they opened the new books and read. The rooms were very quiet, and the winter sunshine shone in to touch the serious faces with a Christmas greeting.
“Where is Mother ” asked Meg, as she ran down to thank her for their gifts, half an hour later.
“Some poor men come for help, and Mrs. March went straight off to see what was needed,” replied Hannah, who was considered more as a friend than a servant.
“She will be back soon, so we must get everything ready,” said Meg, looking over the presents which were collected in a basket, ready to be given to their mother at the proper time. “Why,where is Amy’s bottle of cologne(古龙香水) ” she wondered.
“She took it out a minute ago,” replied Jo.
“There’s Mother. Hide the basket, quick!” cried Jo, as door opened, and steps sounded in the hall.
Amy hurried in, and looked rather ashamed(羞愧的)when she saw her sisters all waiting for her.
“Where have you been, and what are you hiding behind you ” asked Meg, surprised to see that lazy Amy had been out so early.
“You see, I felt ashamed of my present, so I ran round the corner and changed the little bottle for a big one and I gave all my money for it; and I’m truly trying not to be selfish any more.”
Another bang(砰砰作响)of the street door sent the girls to the table.
“Merry Christmas, Marmee! Thank you for our books; we love them,” they said together.
“Merry Christmas, little daughters! I’m glad you like the books. But I want to say one word before we sit down. Not far from here lies a poor woman with a little new-born baby. They were suffering hunger and cold. My girls, will you give them your breakfast as a Christmas present ”
They were all unusually hungry, having waited for nearly an hour, and for a minute no one spoke; only a minute, for Jo said, “I’m so glad you came before we began!”
(From Little Women)
37.Why did Amy go out early in the morning
To buy a present for her mother.
To send her present to her mother.
To change her present for a better one.

Lazy and kind. Loving and clever.
39.What does Jo mean by saying “I’m so glad you came before we began” in the last paragraph
They could have breakfast together. They could send the food to the poor family. They were too hungry to wait for their mother any longer. It was not too late for breakfast.

Sports provide a great way to understand some concepts(概念)in physics. Physics, after all is the study of matter, motion(运动),force, and energy. And since sports liken soccer, swimming and cycling involve bodies moving through space, they can help us understand how the principles of physics work.
Imagine that you’re looking at a soccer ball on a grassy field. If you do nothing to the ball, it will stay motionless on the grass. If you kick the ball, it will roll along the grass before coming to rest again. Pretty simple, right
For thousands of years, though, people thought that objects like this soccer ball come to rest because they have a natural tendency to stop. It took a famous physicist by the name of Sir Isaac Newton, who lived in the 1600s, to prove that this was not exactly correct.
Newton suggested that objects like the soccer ball have a natural tendency to keep moving. The only reason they stop, he believed, is because an unbalanced force acts on them. By an unbalanced force, Newton meant the force applied to the soccer ball by its environment. When kicked, the surface of the ball travels over the grass, creating friction(摩擦力).The taller the grass, and the rougher the surface of the ball, the more friction is created. And the more friction that exists between the ball and the grass, the less it will travel after being kicked.
Now, imagine that there is no grass. Instead, the ball is resting on a frozen lake. When you kick the ball on the ice, the ball will go much farther than it would have on the grass. This is because ice provides a lot less friction than the grass.
Even so, ice does cause some friction. The ball’s interaction with the frozen water crystals on the surface of the lake eventually causes it to come to rest again. But now imagine that instead of ice, the ball is in a place where there’s no friction at all. The ball is floating in a vacuum. If you remove friction entirely, kicking the soccer ball would cause it to keep going and going at the same speed, until some force caused it to slow down and stop. To paraphrase Sir Isaac Newton, a soccer ball on the grass will stay where it is unless acted on by a force. Similarly, once you kick the ball, it will remain in motion unless acted on by force. This, in so many words, is known as Newton’s First Law of Motion.
40.Once an object like a soccer ball is in motion, it has a natural tendency to ________.
stop slow down keep moving change direction
41.What does the writer explain in the passage
The idea of motion, using sports as examples.
The force of friction, using music as examples.
The sport of soccer, using examples of teams and players.
The importance of understanding the concepts in physics.
42.What does the underlined word “tendency” mean
A very small chance of something happening.
A fifty-fifty chance of something happening.
The way something normally behaves or acts.
The fear of doing something or acting in a certain way.
43.The passage is mainly about ________.
the motion of objects the life of Sir Isaac Newton why we have to learn physics why we kick the ball on a grassy land

The king had to call Sessa and take back his words.

You don’t need to think when watching TV, while you need to think when reading books. So reading make you clever. Moreover, if you spend much time watching TV, you will have less time to do something more meaningful.
I think we can spend some time watching TV when we are free and try to watch programmes which can give us knowledge.
