The panda is one of the animals most in danger. There are about 1,000 pandas living in nature reserves today. Zoos and research centers look after about 160 pandas. Scientists are studying how they live and more baby pandas are born in the zoo.
Pandas live in the forests and mountains of south-west China. They mainly live on bamboo, and each panda needs to eat a lot of bamboo every day. The area of bamboo is becoming smaller and smaller for many different reasons, so pandas have less and less land to live on. Pandas don’t have many babies, and baby pandas often die. The situation is becoming very serious.
Our government is working hard to save pandas. There are more than 30 nature reserves to protect pandas but these are not enough. The government has made a new plan to help pandas. The nature reserves will be bigger and bamboo will grow better. Then the pandas will have enough food to eat and enough places to live in Pandas born in the zoos may go back to live in the nature reserves.
Most people love pandas. The panda is one of the most famous animals in the world. It is the symbol (象征)for the World Wide Fund for Nature. The WWF works to protect all animals in danger, so the panda becomes the symbol of all the animals in danger. There is still a long way to go to save the panda. Think of other animals in danger, such as tigers, cranes and elephants— we need to save the pandas, and we need to save them, too.

I know I’m not an ordinary (普通的) ten-year-old kid. I mean, sure, I do ordinary things. I eat ice cream. I ride my bike. I play ball. I play video games. Things like that make me ordinary, I guess. Also, I feel ordinary inside. But I know ordinary kids don’t make other ordinary kids run away screaming in playgrounds. I know ordinary kids don’t get stared at (被盯着) wherever they go.
If I found a magic lamp and I could have one wish, I would wish that I had a common face that no one ever noticed at all. I would wish that I could walk down the street without people seeing me.
But I’m used to(习惯于) how I look now. I know how to pretend (假装) I don’t see how impolite some children are when they see me. We are all pretty good at that kind of thing: Mom and Dad, my elder sister Via, and me. Actually, I should take that back: Via is not so good at it. She can get really angry when people do something impolite to me. For example, one time in the playground, some older kids saw me and made some noise. I don’t even know what the noise was exactly because I didn’t hear them myself, but Via heard them and she just started shouting at those kids. That’s the way she is. I’m not that way.
Via doesn’t see me as ordinary. She says she does, but I know if I were ordinary, she wouldn’t feel like she needs to protect me that much. Mom and Dad don’t see me as ordinary, either. They see me as special. I think only I myself know I am just ordinary.
My name is August, by the way. I won’t describe what I look like to you. Whatever you’re thinking, it’s probably worse than you think.
( )53. What will August do if other kids do impolite things when they see him
A. He will shout at the kids. B. He will ask his parents for help.
C. He will make some noise. D. He will act like he sees nothing.
( )54. Why does August think he is not ordinary from Paragraph 1
A. Because he eats ice cream just like other children.
B. Because he likes riding a bike on his way home.
C. Because he often plays video games at school.
D. Because his looks makes other kids run away.
( )55. What kind of person do you think Via is according to the passage
A. Via is rude and often shouts to others. B. Via is kind and loves her brother very much.
C. Via is impatient and always gets angry easily. D. Via is special and sees her brother as ordinary.
D
There’s nothing quite like falling sound asleep after a full day of work. Like people, animals need to rest after working hard. Some animals sleep in water. Others dig holes under the ground. Some even sleep high in trees or under leaves. But they all find a way to rest.
Some animals in the sea sleep in strange ways. Fish sleep with their eyes open. They seem to look ahead far into the sea while they rest. Sea otters sometimes sleep in beds of the plants that grow in the sea. This keeps them from moving away. Parrotfish blow something from their mouths when they are ready to sleep. Then a bubble (气泡) will be formed around them. The bubble protects them from harm while they sleep.
Some animals sleep under the ground. Chipmunks (花栗鼠) sleep curled up (蜷缩) in a ball. Their beds are made of leaves and grass. In winter, they sleep for two weeks and wake up to eat the stored food. Then they go back to sleep for another two weeks before waking up again. Some desert frogs dig underground holes during the hot, dry season. A frog may stay in its hole for months.
High above the ground, monkeys find leafy places in trees each evening before they sleep. The tall trees help to keep monkeys safe during the night. Some insects even sleep under the leaf that will be their next meal. A bee may climb down into a flower to rest. When it climbs out the next morning, it is rested and ready for work.
( )56. What animals blow bubbles when they sleep

( )58. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about
A. The forest where monkeys sleep safely.

C. The reason why bees climb down into flowers.
D. The ways that keep animals away from danger.
( )59. What is the structure of the passage (P=Paragraph)
