In Chinese history, there are mainly four kinds of writing brushes. They are the Hu writing brush, the Xuan writing brush, the Daiyuexuan writing brush, and the Houdian writing brush. Of them, the Hu writing brush seems to be the most popular. It is made in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province and enjoys a history of over2,000 years.

She thought it must be a simple and interesting job. So, after finishing high school, Wang went to the factory, doing the same job as her mother did. But once she started, she found the work was not as easy as it looked.
Making a Hu writing brush needs 8 key processes(工序) and more than 120 steps. It usually takes25 to 30 days to make one brush. In winter, Wang often needed to put her hands in cold water to make the brush head. It was very difficult, but Wang chose to stay and work there.
After Wang fully learned how to make brushes, she understood them better. “We can see Chinese people are always good at using our creativity to make great things. As a writing tool (工具), it also has something to do with the history and culture of China,” Wang said.
