It might be strange to wear clothes made of plastic bottles. But in fact, some clothing companies are already making clothes like these.
The fashion company of Alia Juma’s showed its newest collection at a workshop in Shanghai. Eighteen clothing kinds from the collection were made of recycled plastic bottles. “We realized that billions of water bottles are thrown into oceans every year and it would take hundreds of years to break down. We should use them to improve the environment,” said Alia Juma, the company’s designer. “Five bottles can make a shirt, 10 a dress, and 20 a short coat.”
Many other fashion companies are finding similar ways to save our planet these days. The process is rather simple. First, the plastic bottles are washed and cut into small pieces. Then they are melted (熔化) and shaped into small balls. Then the balls are melted again to form threads (线). People can then use the threads to make different kinds of clothes.
According to Juma, it takes 67,000 bottles to produce 1 ton of threads. This cuts down carbon emissions (碳排放) by 4.2 tons and water use by 6.2 tons compared with the normal way of making threads.
Some people might have wondered about wearing something made of plastic bottles. But in fact, clothes made of plastics can be even better than those made from common materials. Some people have a very poor sense of direction. Unluckily,I am one of them. I have visited a place many times but I may still get lost there the next time.
When I was a little girl,I never dared to ask strangers the way. And so I used to walk round in circles and hope that by chance I would get to the place I was going to.
Now,I am no longer too shy to ask people for directions, but I often receive helpless or even wrong information. So I try to avoid giving people wrong directions. If anyone ever asks me the way somewhere,I would say, "Sorry, I am a stranger here."
Once on my way to work I was stopped by a man. He asked me if I could tell him the way to the Friendship Building. I gave him my usual reply. But just as I walked on only a few steps, I realized that he had asked the way to my office building. However, I had no time to turn back and look for him. I was rushing to meet with someone at my office and I didn't want to keep him waiting.

第二节 任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
At the end the year, it’s time to start thinking about everyone’s favorite topic:gifts! More specifically (确切地), the giving of gifts and the culture surrounding ing from the US, I have found gift-giving to be quite different in China compared to my home country. One example is the timing of when to open a gift. In the US, the person who gives the gift (let’s call them the “gifter”) will often want to see the person who gets the gift (the “giftee”) open the present as soon as they get it. They want to see their reaction (反应) of excitement and joy. In China, however, it’s more polite to thank the gifter for the gift and open it later in the privacy (私密).
Another aspect (方面) I found different was the openness and directness (直接) of giving money. Although people in the US might give money to their children, it is usually done very secretly with the money put in a card and not discussed out loud. In China, money will be put in a flashy (显眼的) red envelope and given to giftees an open and direct way.
Finally, the monetary value (金钱的价值) of the gift can play a big role in China in ways that are different from the US. An expensive gift in the US is usually greeted with great excitement. But in China, it can make the giftee feel awkward (尴尬的). Besides, they will also get a sense of having to return the favor (恩惠) in the future to the gifter.
So, the next time you give a gift to somebody, remember that culture and meaning are part of every action we take.
31.When do people in the US open a gift
32.To be polite, what will a Chinese giftee do after getting a gift

34.Is it OK to send gifts with high price in the US
35.How do Chinese people feel when they receive expensive gifts

【解析】本文讲的是中国和美国在送礼方面的差异。
31.根据文中“In the US, the person who gives the gift (let’s call them the “gifter”) will often want to see the person who gets the gift (the “giftee”) open the present as soon as they get it.”可知美国人会立即打开礼物,故填 Prople open a gift immediately.
32.根据文中“In China, however, it’s more polite to thank the gifter for the gift and open it later in the privacy (私密).” 可知在中国,更礼貌的做法是感谢送礼物的人,但收礼者稍后在家中私下打开礼物,故填They open the gift later in the privacy of the giftee’s home.
33.根据文中“The monetary value (金钱的价值) of the gift can play a big role in China in ways that are different from the US.”可知作者认为礼物的金钱价值在中国会发挥重要作用,故填The author thinks the monetary value of the gift can play a big role in China.
34.根据文中“An expensive gift in the US is usually greeted with great excitement.”可知,在美国,一份昂贵的礼物是让人兴奋的,此处应进行肯定回答。故填Yes, it is.

Plastic threads can also be made into different materials, such as cotton, silk, or even wool. It seems that this innovation (创新) may lead to a greener future of fashion.

I was rushing to meet with someone at my office and I didn't want to keep him waiting.

The Taihang Mountain passes through the areas of Hebei, Shanxi, Henan and Beijing. It is about 400 kilometers long. It is one of the largest mountain ranges in North China, and it was called “the backbone (脊梁) of China” in ancient times.
