应用文范文:
Dear Robert,
I’m thrilled to hear that you’re coming to China for your studies! I’d love to introduce you to some common gestures here.
In China, nodding means agreement, while shaking your head indicates disagreement. We also use a handshake to show respect or greeting. Additionally, tapping your index finger on the table can show impatience or boredom. Lastly, placing your hand over your heart is a sign of respect or thanks.
I hope this brief introduction helps you adjust quickly to our culture. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Yours,
Li Hua

When Tim got home late, he saw a neighbor standing in front of their front door. The neighbor, with a look of concern, informed Tim that his mother had fainted and was rushed to the hospital. Tim’s mind went blank as he processed the information, his heart pounding in his chest. A wave of guilt washed over him as he realized what he had done to his mother. He quickly grabbed his bike keys, and dashed outside, his bike already waiting for him in the driveway. The cool night air rushed past him, the streetlights casting flickering shadows on his path. Every pedal felt like a race against time, as he pushed himself to reach the hospital as soon as possible.
After riding for half an hour, he arrived at the hospital. Breathless and drenched in sweat, he rushed to the reception desk and asked for his mother's room. The nurse directed him to a softly lighted room where Gloria lay. Her face was pale but her eyes lit up when she saw her son . Tim inched to her bedside, tears streaming down his face. He grabbed her hand and whispered apologies for his recent behavior. Gloria, with a weary but forgiving smile, reassured him that she was okay and that they could work through their differences. As they held each other's hands, sharing words of understanding and love, the tension between them melted away

(Text 3)

W: The first bus leaves at 6:30 a.m., and there is a bus every fifteen minutes, sir.
(Text 4)
W: Well, I heard the CEO Mr. Matthew is ready to retire, so Mr. Jackson will take his place.
M: Really I wonder who the next CFO will be then
W: Well, I would think that Mr. King is going to get the promotion since he has strong leadership skills.
(Text 5)
M: You look awful. Have you been studying all night
W: Kind of. I got home at about nine, but I needed to relax a little. Then I got to work at about ten till the early hours.
M: I was done by midnight, but I stayed up watching a movie till half past two.

W: I love your new suit!
M: Thanks. It was a birthday gift from my mother. Do you think it’s too formal, though
W: It depends. What’s the occasion
M: I’m going to a job interview. I could hardly go in beachwear, could I
W: Definitely not.
M: But maybe I could wear jeans and a T-shirt. I would feel more comfortable, that’s for sure.
W: No way. This suit is the best clothing for a job interview. By the way, why do you want to change your job For a higher salary or for the position
M: Actually, I’m looking for something new and challenging.
(Text 7)

(Text 8)
M: Hello. This is Bruce Guerrero. I’m a subscriber of the Chicago Times. I’m calling to ask you for another copy of today’s paper. I got one this morning, but it was all wet from the shower because it was dropped in the side yard, beside the hallway.
W: I apologize for that. Our delivery person hasn’t returned from his route yet. Why don’t I deliver it to you instead It won’t take long.
M: Thank you. But I’d like to let you know that newspapers have not been delivered to my hallway several times already. Would you ask your deliveryman to put it in the right place
W: Sure, no problem, Mr. Guerrero. You live on Scott Road, right I’ll be there within half an hour. I’ll see you soon.
(Text 9)
W: Since as long as I can remember, I’ve had problems making friends. It’s not that I wanted to fit in. I just didn’t like the kind of things that other kids liked.
M: You mean music, hobbies, clothes …
W: Yeah. All that stuff just seemed meaningless to me. I didn’t want to hang out with the cool kids. I’m just not a cool kid and I don’t want to be.
M: And do you think it’s connected to your family background
W: Oh, definitely. My parents are really quiet and although there are four kids, we live in a quiet household. We read, we eat together, we’re very respectful of each other’s space and we’re just not into partying.
M: So do you see this as a problem at school — like when you’re trying to make friends
W: Um, a little bit. It’s not so much a problem — more a feeling that I’m just very different. Like when other teenagers are starting to go out, I’m happier staying in and studying. It’s more a question of looking for similar people, wanting friends who have the same interests. Friends like you, actually!
(Text 10)
W: Well, I’d love to share with you my musical tastes. I’ve always been a huge fan of music. My mom used to have so many CDs, tapes and records, so I could listen to all sorts of things, from classical music like Beethoven and Mozart to seventies bands like Shakatak.
I’ve always listened to electronic music and dance music. It started when I was about thirteen years old. I used to go to parties for young people with my schoolmates and I’ve just always been into them. One thing that I can’t get into is country. My sister is a big fan. I just cannot get used to it.
If I look on my iPod now, a lot of the music that I listen to now, I probably listened to back when I was four or five years old, with the exception of some of the dance tracks which came in when I was a teenager. So I’d like to say that I listen to a wide range of music, and I’ve got my mom to thank for that.2024—2025学年度第一学期高二第二次月考试题

As Elizabeth Stone once said, “Having children is like having your heart go walking around outside of your body.” You send them off to school and hope that the world treats them kindly because when they hurt, you hurt. Surely it’s unavoidable that your child will experience hurt feelings at some point. So, it’s wise to be ready for those moments.
But what truly prepares you for the moment when the child you love so much unexpectedly heals (治愈) the wounds of your own inner child A mom named Soogia, posted a video on TikTok explaining a phone call she received from a parent in her daughter’s classroom. The mom called to inform Soogia that their kids had been sharing lunch with each other.
Soogia wasn’t prepared for what came next. The classmate’s mother informed her that her son loved the food Soogia’s daughter brought to school and wanted to learn how to cook it too.
That may seem like a small thing to some, but the small gesture healed a little bit of Soogia’s inner child. Growing up as a Korean kid in California, Soogia had different experiences from her children.
“I guess I just never thought that my kids would be the generation of kids that could go to school and not just proudly eat, but share their food with other kids that were just so open,” Soogia said through tears. “They don’t sit there eating their food alone, feeling ashamed and wishing that their fried rice was bread instead or something like that. And I know, it sounds so small and it sounds so stupid, but knowing that their experience at school is so different from mine in such a positive way is just so hopeful.”
Soogia’s tearful video pulled at the heartstrings of her viewers who shared their thoughts in the comments.
“These Gen Alpha babies (千禧一代) really are a different, kinder generation. I love them so much,” someone revealed.
24. What is the purpose of quoting at the beginning of the passage
A. To illustrate the hard work of being a parent.
B. To stress parents’ constant concerns about their children.
C. To introduce the story about a child’s growth that follows.
D. To contrast the different feelings between parents and children.
25. Why did the classmate’s mother call Soogia
A. To ask for the cooking method of the lunch her son loved.
B. To invite Soogia to prepare lunch for the children together.
C. To inform Soogia of her daughter’s understanding behavior at school.
D. To express her appreciation for the lunch Soogia’s daughter brought.
26. What makes Soogia feel comforted
A. Her child attracted a lot of attention on TikTok.
B. Her child has gained friendship and recognition at school.
C. Her child needn’t feel ashamed of their cultural background.
D. Her child can share their favorite food with their classmates.
27. What can we infer about Soogia’s opinion of the new generation of children
A. Open-minded and inclusive. B. Adventurous and open-minded.
C. Caring and determined. D. Friendly and determined.

The Forsa Ring is an iron ring from H lsingland, dating back to the 10th century. The inscription (铭文) on the ring describes fines (罚金) for a specific crime, where payment was to be made in the form of oxen and silver. The ring is believed to have been used as a door handle and is currently the oldest known preserved legal text in Scandinavia. By changing the translation of the word “auk” from the previous interpretation “and” to the new interpretation “also,” the meaning changes so that fines could be paid either with an ox or with two ore of silver. An ore was equal to about 25 grams of silver.
“This indicates a much more flexible system, where both oxen and silver could be used as units of payment. If a person had easier access to oxen than to silver, they could pay their fines with an ox. On the contrary, if someone had silver but no oxen, they could pay with two ore of silver,” says Rodney Edvinsson.
The new interpretation shows that the Vikings had a system where both oxen and silver served as units of payment. This system allowed for multiple types of units of accounts to be used at the same time, reducing transaction (交易) difficulty and making it easier for individuals to meet their financial responsibilities. The new interpretation also agrees better with how the system functioned later according to later regional laws and is, according to Rodney Edvinsson, significant for our understanding of both Scandinavian and European history of money.
Edvinsson previously contributed to developing a historical consumer price index as far back as the 13th century, but this new interpretation provides insights (见解) into price levels even earlier in history. The study highlights the importance of using modern economic theories to interpret historical sources. By combining economic theory with archaeological (考古学的) and historical findings, new opportunities for cross-field research and a deeper understanding of early economic systems are opened up.
28. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs
A. Vikings only accepted silver as payment for fines from crimes.
B. Vikings had no knowledge of legal systems before the 10th century.
C. The Forsa Ring inscription suggested punishments in oxen and silver.
D. The Forsa Ring was mainly used as a means of trading oxen and silver.
29. Which of the following is an advantage of the payment system
A. People found it more convenient to pay their fines.
B. According to later regional laws, it functioned better.
C. It allowed for a unique kind of currency unit to be used.
D. It became easier for governments to settle their financial duties.
30. What is the significance of the new interpretation
A. It is about 3 centuries older than Rodney Edvinsson’s previous study.
B. A new means of interpreting historical sources of inscription is available.
C. It shows that early Scandinavians had an outdated payment system.
D. Opportunities of cross-field research and understanding early economies appear.
31. What is the best title of the passage
A. Early Payment Systems in Scandinavia.
B. Interpretations of the Vikings’ Legal System.
C. New Insights into the Forsa Ring’s Inscription.
D. The Discovery of the Scandinavian Forsa Ring.

A recent study by researchers at the University of Cincinnati, led by Dr. Alberto Espay, challenges the common idea that monoclonal-antibodies (单克隆抗体) help slow down memory loss in Alzheimer’s patients by removing amyloid-plaques (淀粉样斑块).
Instead, the study shows that an unexpected increase in a key brain protein, called amyloid-beta 42(Aβ42), is more closely linked to improvements in thinking ability. This research was published in the journal Brain on September 11. For many years, experts believed that amyloid-plaques, which form from Aβ42, harm the brain and cause Alzheimer’s disease. However, Dr. Espay and his team suggest a different theory. They believe the real problem is the loss of soluble (易溶解的) Aβ42, which is important for keeping brain cells healthy, rather than the buildup of plaques. Previous research from Dr. Espay’s group showed that Alzheimer’s symptoms (症状) appear when Aβ42 levels fall too low, not when plaque levels are high.
According to Dr. Espay, the formation of amyloid plaques may be the brain’s natural way of responding to stress, like changes in metabolism (代谢). He points out that many people get amyloid-plaques as they age but do not develop dementia (痴呆). Still current treatments for Alzheimer’s focus on these plaques.
New monoclonal-antibody treatments, meant to clear amyloid, have shown benefits in clinical trials. Dr. Espay’s team studied data from almost 26,000 patients in 24 clinical trials of these antibody treatments. They found that these treatments also accidentally increased Aβ42 levels. This suggests that the improvement in thinking maybe because of higher Aβ42 levels, not because of plaque removal.
While raising Aβ42 levels seems helpful, Dr. Espay warns that removing amyloid plaques could harm the brain by making it shrink (萎缩) faster. He suggests focusing on treatments that raise Aβ42 directly, without targeting amyloid plaques. “Increasing Aβ42 is the goal,” he says, “but removing amyloid may not be the right way to do it .”
32. What’s the common idea of treating Alzheimer’s
A. Reducing brain shrinkage.
B. Increasing neuron activity.
C. Raising Aβ42 levels in the brain .
D. Removing amyloid-plaques from the brain.
33. What do we know about Aβ42
A. It is unrelated to the Alzheimer’s.
B. It is only harmful when it forms plaques.
C. Its loss may lead to Alzheimer’s symptoms.
D. It damages brain cells when its levels are high.
34. What can we infer from paragraph 3
A. Everyone with amyloid plaques develops dementia.
B. Amyloid plaques maybe a protective response by the brain.
C. Current Alzheimer’s treatments focus on raising Aβ42 levels.
D. Removing amyloid plaques ensures better understanding function.
35. Which of the following will Dr. Espay agree with
A. Treatments should focus on raising Aβ42 levels.
B. Removing amyloid plaques will prevent Alzheimer’s.
C. Amyloid plaques are the main cause of Alzheimer’s disease.
D. Increasing Aβ42 levels through amyloid removal is always safe.

Steps to a creative play
Now that plays are gaining increasing popularity, many students have tried to create their own characters and plots. 36 . Let’s look at the following elements on how to create your own play!
Select a catchy title.
Begin by choosing a title that hints at the central theme or situation of the play.
37 . Or at least it should set the tone. For example, if the play is about a lost item, a title like “The Missing Key” or “Lost and Found” would work.
Create charming characters.
In a short play, limit the characters to two or three. This allows for quick character development and reduces the complexity of interactions. The fewer characters, the easier it is to build meaningful dialogue. Each character should have a distinct personality or role in the situation. 38 .
Keep a simple setting.
Descriptions will take up precious words, so plain settings work wonders. A setting like a park bench, a living room, or a cafe provides just enough context for the action. The setting should support the dialogue and conflict without needing too much explanation. 39 . Introduce a small, everyday problem that the characters need to resolve. This problem should be something the audience can relate to, such as losing something, misunderstanding directions, or being late for an event. This conflict is also what drives the dialogue forward and gives the characters a reason to interact.
Offer an effective resolution (解决).
End with a quick resolution or leave it open-ended. Given the limited word count, the resolution should tie up the conflict efficiently or suggest an ongoing issue.
40 .
Create a difficult problem
Introduce reasonable conflicts
A reasonable ending leaves room for readers' understanding
Some have even had millions of followers on social media
It should give the audience an idea of what the play is about
An open ending can make a play more impactful
For instance, one is anxious and the other is calm, leading to an interesting contrast

One Saturday, a thirteen-year-old boy named Tim was hanging out with his friends at a local cafe. Tim and his friends would usually spend the entire weekend together, before meeting again the following week while in school.
That day, Tim’s mom Gloria wanted to change up his routine by inviting him to watch a new superhero movie with her. Gloria kept calling Tim on his cellphone, but he wouldn’t pick up. So, she decided to make her way to the cafe, knowing that this was where Tim and his friends usually had lunch on Saturdays.
When she spotted Tim and his friends, she made her way to them, only to see Tim’s friends giggling. “Your grandmother’s come to pick you up, Tim!” they teased. Tim glared (怒视) at his mother and walked up to her to stop her from going any closer. “What are you doing here !” he scolded her. “You’re embarrassing me in front of my friends!”
“I just wanted to ask if you wanted to watch a movie with me,” she smiled, trying to hold his hand. Tim shrugged (耸肩) off her hands. “Leave me alone! I’m with my friends!” he told her.
Gloria walked back home sadly. When Tim got home that night, it was already half past ten. He went straight to his room, not even acknowledging Gloria’s presence in the living room.
“What’s the matter, Tim ” Gloria decided to ask him. “Why is it that you don’t like being with me anymore I’m worried about you, Tim. I barely know what’s going on in your life!” she said, trying to walk closer to him.
“You’re such an old, boring woman! Why did you even give birth to me !” he yelled. Gloria felt a pain in her chest after hearing Tim yell at her that way. Before she could respond, Tim grabbed his backpack and ran out the door.
