Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone, was born in Scotland in 1847. His mother, who was deaf, was a musician and painter. His father was an expert and taught deaf people how to speak. Being influenced by his parents, Bell was interested in working with the deaf throughout his life. He wanted to help deaf people and solve their difficulties.
He only attended school for five years, from the time he was ten until he was fourteen, but he never stopped learning. He read the books in his grandfather’s library and studied. Several years later, he and his brother made a speaking machine. This made Bell have more interest in human speech and how it worked.
Bell's family moved to Canada in 1870 and Bell moved to the USA in 1871. He worked hard to develop a way to use electricity to send the sounds of talking through a wire.
