I was taught at a young age to be afraid rather than to experience life. Don’t ride a bike because you might get hit by a car. Don’t swim because you might drown. That’s why I was initially afraid to approach others. They might say no-how could I live with that rejection(拒绝)
A book changed me. Near the end of the book, the writer suggested trying out what I had just read but to pretend it was like the training game in a sport—when the games didn’t count. When my teams would lose formal games, I couldn’t bear to watch. But when they lost in the training game. I didn’t care.
I don’t know why the suggestion resonated with me. But I knew this new way of thinking worked for me. It gave me power to know the results didn’t matter because this was the exhibition game when I was practicing what I had learned before the real games started.
I discovered there were other ways to use this new tool. It allowed me to have a successful sales career, even though I heard the word “no” hundreds of times. It was part of the business, but I didn’t let it get me down. I turned a negative into a positive by reasoning that every time I heard the word “no”, it meant I was one step closer to “yes”. It’s amazing how powerful you feel when you remove the fear that stops you from going after what you want in life.
I still do my sales job, and we have a lot of high-school and college students working at the company. I will pass on the advice that I learned many years ago and encourage them to use that idea for whatever they want to achieve.
24. How was the author’s character when he was young
A. Helpful. B. Outgoing. C. Unsociable. D. Confident.
25. Which of the following may the book writer agree with
A. The training games are also important.
B. Whatever the game is, it doesn’t count.
C. Don’t worry about life’s gains and losses.
D. Just have a try and don’t care about the results.
26. What does the underlined word “resonated” in paragraph3 mean
A. Agree. B. Meet. C. Fight. D. Deal.
27. What does the author think of rejections in his work
A. Positive results. B. Steps to success.
C. Excuses to escape. D. Unbeatable strikes.
C
It’s OK to run when it’s cold outside. But is it OK to run when yo have a cold Many runners find the activity addictive. Running releases endorphins (内啡肽) into the brain, which are responsible for mood changes. The harder you run, the more endorphins released, and the happier you are. Some studies show this endorphin rush allows people to continue running even when injured or sick.
And that brings us to the point of this article--why people continue their running even when they’re sick. Most of us curl up in bed with some chicken soup and the remote control when we’re under the weather. But runners often hit the road. Are they helping or hurting themselves by jogging with a cold
The best way to decide whether you should exercise is to employ what doctors call the “neck check”. Feel free to go running if your cold is “above the neck”. Doctors advise against proceeding with your exercise if your symptoms(症状) are “below the neck”.
Some people think that running in cold temperatures will actually make them sick. But this isn’t really true. You can’t freeze your lungs or windpipe (气管). Your body heats the air you breathe. When the air is particularly cold, you may feel a burning sensation in your chest as you breathe. If that’s the case, try covering your mouth with a scarf or wearing a ski mask . That’ll help heat up the air before you breathe it in.
Keep in mind, if you have an infection (感染) in your chest or throat, running outside can indeed make things worse. But if you have a simple head cold, it would be fine to take that run, even if it’s cold outside.
28. Why do some people still go running even if they are not in good condition
A. They’d like to keep their figures.
B. They don’ t realise the harm it does.
C. They want to feel the pleasure it brings.
D. They enjoy the atmosphere of running with others.
29. What does the underlined word “proceeding” in paragraph3 mean
A. Stopping. B. Working.
C. Changing. D. Continuing.
30. What is the misunderstanding of running in cold weather
A. It will make people ill. B. It will worsen people’s health.
C. It will burn your chest. D. It has nothing to do with people’s illness.
31. What can we learn from the text
A. Running when suffering a cold can be harmful.
B. Running in cold weather makes people happier.
C. Lying in bed is what we all do when catching a cold.
D. Covering your mouth when running in cold weather frees you from a cold.

I loved to play. I would practice for three hours a day as a kid. As I got older, my teachers and parents wanted me to get serious about playing. So, in high school, I took music classes and played in some concerts to make them pleased. I traveled to other cities to play. The concerts and the traveling were hard on me. I was worried about making my parents proud and being the best I could be. When I left high school and went to college, I stopped playing as much. At some point, I decided not to play the piano anymore. But I never forgot the music. Now I just play for fun. I don’t practice every day, and I don’t have to become the best player anymore. But that’s okay with me.
