On a school trip to New York, our school had us wear name tags(牌)with our school name on it. Since all the attractions we visited were popular with school groups, the tags let the teachers know we should be with our group. If any of us separated from the group, teachers would quickly call us back.
Some students had tried to hide or throw away their name tags to avoid this, so our head teacher—a very strict lady— said that anyone found without the name tag would have to spend the rest of the trip staying with her at all times and then have a month’s worth of lockdown(禁闭)when we got back.
While we were all on a ferry(渡船), we were allowed to go around. While playing with friends, I didn’t realize it was my name tag until it was too far to reach. I started to freak out at once. I had never got into trouble at school before or had even a single punishment, and I would possibly face a month’s worth of them! After thinking for a moment, I finally decided to just tell the head teacher what had happened.
I went to the head teacher and explained very nervously to her. Instead of shouting at me, she took out another name tag and handed it to me. She said, “I have prepared several more name tags in case something unexpected happens.” Then she smiled at me, “Did you think you would get lockdown Don’t worry, and that’s just for the trouble-makers in order to stop them losing it on purpose. I believe you’re a good kid. Don’t be worried about this. But be careful later.” When I heard these words, tears came to my eyes. What a kind teacher she is!
24. Why did the school ask us to wear name tags
A. To avoid being separated. B. To visit the attractions freely.
C. To make us popular. D. To attract the classmates’ eyes.
25. What does the underlined phrase “freak out” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Be happy. B. Be anxious.
C. Be silent. D. Be excited.
26. Why didn’t the head teacher punish the writer
A. She knew he was not a trouble-maker.
B. She disliked him very much.
C. She was unfair in fact.
D. She thought he was the best kid.
27 How did the writer feel about the head master
A. Strict but impolite. B. Brave but unfriendly.
C. Strict and patient. D. Brave and honest.

Have you been exercising and eating healthy, but when you step on the scale, it says you’ve gained a few pounds “That’s normal, and it doesn’t mean that your works are not effective”, says Jeffrey A. Dolgan, an exercise physiologist in Miami Beach, Florida.
“A person’s scale mass(质量)is a combination of muscle, fat, bone, blood, and even the air that we carry in our lungs,” he says. “Immediately after a workout routine, the percentage of mass in each body part can shift as much as 15 percent. So if you’re gaining weight while working out and eating healthy, it’s probably not the type of weight gain that you think it is.”
The scale can’t tell you how much of your body weight is muscle or fat, which means if your goal is to improve your fitness level, the scale is not the best tool for measuring improvements. When you start to change your body composition with your works— by building more muscle mass and decreasing your body fat— your scale weight may increase, while your body fat percentage may decrease. These changes happen over weeks and months(not hours or days)so the scale is useless when tracking them.
You may argue that you weigh a few pounds less after a high intensity(强度)training class. Don’t get too excited— it’s just water loss due to sweat. Water makes up approximately 65 to 90 percent of a person’s weight, and variation in water content of the human body can move the scale by ten pounds or more from day to day.
So ignore the scale and pay more attention to objective measurement tools like body composition. Keep in mind that if you’re exercising but gaining weight, you may actually look slimmer.
28. What can we know from Dolgan’s words from paragraph 2
A. Your weight changes little during a day.
B. Your scale mass is affected by many factors.
C. Your workout is not effective if you gain weight.
D. Your weight is determined only by muscle and fat.
29. What will most probably happen after you exercise and eat healthy for 3 months
A. You will weigh more. B. Your muscle mass will decrease.
C. Your body fat will increase. D. Your body composition will change.
30. How much water may a man weighing 150 pounds have in his body
A. 30 pounds. B. 60 pounds. C. 100 pounds. D. 140 pounds.
31. Which of the following could be the best title for the text
A. Why Do We Gain Weight
B. How to Work Out Effectively
C. What Is the Composition of Our Body
D. Why Does My Workout Cause Weight Gain

Huang Yang is a native of Zibo city in Shandong Province who works outside his hometown. He recently returned home for a visit and wanted to have some barbecue. But he failed to find seats in four different restaurants.
“A barbecue restaurant owner told me to come back on Monday, so as to leave the weekends to out-of-town visitors. Another restaurant owner told me that they had run out of meat. I’ve been eating barbecue for over 20 years and this is the first time I’ve heard something like that,” Huang said.
Thanks to social media recommendations, Zibo barbecue has become popular overnight. The small city was crowded with visitors on weekends for a taste of the mouth-watering dishes. Most visitors are young people, who share online their experience of traveling to Zibo to experience the city’s barbecue culture, drawing even more visitors.
Behind Zibo’s sudden fame are the efforts and services of the local government. To promote Zibo-style barbecue, Zibo has provided two dozen “special barbecue trains,” where local officials would serve tourists themselves. Zibo’s tourism officials have been promoting the city’s food and attractions and sending gifts to tourists on the barbecue-themed trains. At the city’s train station, volunteers have been working at train stations to offer help. Buses are ready to take visitors from train stations straight to barbecue restaurants.
Another key to the success, according to Peng Han, director of the Center for Strategic Studies at the Ctrip Research Institute, is that before Zibo became popular on the internet, the city had developed mature(成熟的)tourism products and service standards. For example, the barbecue-themed train services, bus services, barbecue map, the youth hostels that offer discounts for college students and the strict requirements for local tourism businesses were not achieved overnight, Peng noted.
As the home of the Shandong businessmen and having origins in the Silk Road, Zibo will work to develop its historical and cultural resources into cultural brands, noted Wang Shenghua, a senior tourism official in Zibo.
32. Why did the barbecue restaurant owner tell Huang Yang to come back on Monday
A. Because there would be a barbecue festival on Monday.
B. Because the restaurant was open only on Monday.
C. Because there were too many visitors on weekends.
D. Because the restaurants ran out of meat on weekends.
33. Which is NOT the reason why Zibo barbecue becomes popular
A. Young people share their happy experience in Zibo.
B. Zibo offered free barbecue and hotels to the visitors.
C. Zibo had already improved their tourism service.
D. Zibo spared no effort to provide visitors with a happy experience.
34. What may Zibo do in a long term according to Wang Shenghua
A. Zibo will open more barbecue restaurants.
B. Zibo will develop its silk business.
C. Zibo will develop its own cultural brands.
D. Zibo will provide better service for businessmen.
35. What is the best title for the passage
A. Big on barbecue, Zibo’s star shines B. Zibo, a historical and cultural city
C. Top barbecue restaurants in Zibo D. Tips for traveling in Zibo

Here are some tips for taking tests:
37 It sounds like a no-brainer(不用动脑的事), but if you’re sure of the information , you’ll have less reason to be worried.

This will allow you to estimate(估计)how much time you have for each part and ask the teacher any questions. If something seems unclear before you start, don’t worry: ask.
Relax. 40 Of course you can’t get up and move around in the middle of a test, but you can wiggle(扭动)your fingers and toes, take four or five deep breaths, or picture yourself on a beach or some calm places.
These tips should help most people, but some can get serious test side-effects. If you’re one of them, you may need to talk to a parent or teacher for help.
A. Read the test through first.
B. Be sure you’ve studied properly.
C. Focus on dealing with each question personally.
D. It’s natural to feel some stress about taking tests.
E. Your memory will be much better if you’ve had enough rest.
F. As the teacher hands out the test, be sure you know what’s expected of you.
G. If you’re so nervous that you can’t think of anything, you might need a minibreak.

Polly Goodman, 82-year-old, was a rich old woman. Her husband was a businessman and left her a large fortune after his death, so she had no problems supporting herself. The only problem was that her son who was a doctor busy with his work seldom had time to visit her, leaving her living lonely.
One day, Polly was walking along the beach, like she did every evening near her seaside house, when she noticed a young boy and his little sister playing there. As she was passing by them, she heard their mother calling out to them. “Corey! Daisy! Be careful! Stay away from the water!”
Polly noticed their mother resting on a bench, appearing sick and tired. The dark circles under her eyes were quite obvious, and she coughed frequently. Polly always had a desire to have a chat with someone. So she walked carefully towards the mother with a kind smile on her face.
“Hi, I’m Polly. I live by the beach.” Polly said.
The mother looked up at Polly, feeling a little surprised. The mother told Polly she was Lydia and had worked as a waitress. Lydia further said that she and her children had only recently moved to that location because her children had always wanted to see the ocean. Then Lydia stopped to cough heavily. After she calmed down, it seemed she wanted to say something, but stopped as if there was something difficult to tell. Polly did not follow up, saying goodbye and left.
When Polly went to the beach the next day, she saw the kids again, but this time their mother wasn’t with them. She observed them playing by themselves until late in the evening before heading home. The third day came and again the two kids played at the seaside until late in the evening, still without their mother s company. Then the elder brother was about to lead the sister back home. Out of curiosity and care Polly decided to follow them to their house.

Dear Laura,
I am glad to hear from you and sorry to learn that you are upset that your parents are too concerned about your daily life and don’t allow you to go out with your friends.
It is quite normal for you to feel like that. Here are some tips for you, which I hope can help you change the situation. To begin with, you have to be open and honest with your parents about your real thoughts and annoyance. Meanwhile, tell your parents about your desire for independence and social activity. Besides, reassure your parents by letting them know what kind of friends you are making. Not only can friends keep you company, they can also offer you some mental support.
I believe the period will not last long. Everything will turn out all right in the end.
Yours,
Li Hua
67. One possible version:
Upon arrival, the kids invited Polly inside. The moment Polly stepped into the house, she was shocked to see the house in a mess with toys scattered everywhere on the floor. Meanwhile, she spotted Lydia lying in the sofa, coughing heavily. Seeing Polly approaching, Lydia struggled to sit up but failed. Apparently, Lydia was seriously sick and needed immediate treatment. When asked why she didn’t go to hospital, Lydia explained she was too weak to drive. Out of sympathy, Polly offered to drive her to the hospital.
Polly took the mother to the hospital her son worked in. Having learned about the situation through the phone called by Polly, her son helped contact doctors. After a careful medical check, Lydia was told she had to stay in hospital for days, which worried her a lot, for her kids were too young to stay at home alone. Polly comforted her that she would take care of the kids. Hearing that, Lydia was so deeply moved that she could say nothing. She hugged Polly tightly to express her sincere gratitude.
