Some places on Earth have such amazing views (风景) that it is hard to believe they are actually real. Here are four such places.
Mendenhal1 Gardens, Alaska
Known as the “Upside Down Forest”, the Mendenhall Gardens looks like a fairy tale coming straight out of a
film. Throughout the garden, more than 20 giant spruce and hemlock trees have been turned upside down. Called“flower towers”, their tops are kept in the ground and their roots(树根) are hung in the air, forming baskets of flowers.
Pamukkale, Türkiye
With a history that goes back to the ancient Greek - Roman times, this southwestern Turkish city is home to hot springs that have drawn visitors for thousands of years. The World Heritage Site has 17 hot pools, pouring down with sunset views. What makes these pools so special is their bright white bases.
Atlantic Ocean Road, Norway
Norway’ s Atlantic Ocean Road is 8.3 kilometers long, and it passes through various small islands and even through villages, crossing eight bridges. As a World Heritage Site, the road has been known for “the best road trip in the world” and is one of the most popular natural places of interest in Norway. The workers experienced as many as 12 hurricanes (飓风) and spent tens of years on the building project. In 2005, it was named as the building of the 20th century.
Mu Cang Chai Rice Terraces, Vietnam
Green views are all over the deep valleys (山谷), and the place is made up of layer (层) upon layer of carefully shaped grass steps perfect for sitting back and enjoying the wide views. For those looking for a quiet outdoor room with a view to sit and read, or just think about life’s wonders, this is it.

For Shi Qinling, a pair of scissors has been with her everywhere she goes for the past decade — not as a means of self-protection, but as an artistic expression. Scissors are to this paper-cutting artist what brushes are to painters, or what pens are to writers. Always taking a pair of scissors allows her to create art whenever inspiration hits. Most of her paper-cutting works are inspired by moments in daily life, such as a neighbor’s dog, her own pets and scenes on the streets.
In 2010, she started learning paper-cutting from Xi Xiaoqin, the national inheritor(继承人) of the intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) of paper-cutting. Six years later, Shi was named as a Shanghai paper-cutting inheritor and became the city’s“youngest inheritor” of the paper-cutting heritage.
Similar to local dialects, paper-cutting comes in different styles, depending on the region. In general, the paper-cutting artworks in the country’s northern area are usually rough patterns used as decorations on windows, walls, roofs, lanterns and other household items. In southern China, paper-cutting is used as the base pattern for
embroidery (刺绣) and requires more careful workmanship. Shanghai paper-cutting, on the other hand, is a combination(结合) of these two styles. Since the 1960s, Shanghai paper-cutting has been more frequently adopted in artworks and handicrafts.
Shi now works at the Fenglin community cultural center and she now plans to produce cultural and creative goods to attract more people to learn paper-cutting. “We are very proud to have this unique folk culture and art project, As we have the responsibility to protect and inherit this cultural heritage, we will make more efforts to attract people from different age groups and different fields to try paper-cutting,” said Liu Li, director of the Fenglin community development office.
24.Why does Shi Qinling take a pair of scissors with her everywhere
A.To protect herself.
B.To show her identity as an artist.
C.To create works whenever she has inspiration.
D.To share paper-cutting skills with ordinary people.
25.What feature do Shi Qinling’s works have
A.They are in various styles. B.They are mostly inspired by details of daily life.
C.They are a hit among young people. D.They are mainly related to animals.
26.What can we learn about Shanghai paper-cutting
A.It is usually combined with embroidery.
B.It is usually used as decorations during festivals.
C.It requires greater skill than other paper-cutting forms.
D.It is a mixture of China’s northern and southern styles.
27.What is Liu Li’s attitude toward the paper-cutting project
A.She supports it. B.She disagrees with it.
C.She is tolerant of it. D.She doesn’t care about it.

At 104 years old, Dorothy Hoffner fell. Then she kept falling, and falling. When the lifelong Chicagoan finally touched the ground last Sunday, she landed in the history books and became the oldest person to ever sky-dive(跳伞).
As Hoffner prepared to board, she pushed her red walker out and walked slowly to the plane, where two expert instructors helped her up the steps into the hold. “Let’ s go!” she said, finally seated. The plane quickly rose, Hoffner looking calm and confident all the while.
When the aft(机尾) door opened to show the crop fields far below, she and the instructor were ready to stand up. When Hoffner first sky-dived at 100 years old, she was pushed out, she said. This time, she wanted to lead the jump.
Seven minutes after her jump, she moved slowly in the air for her historic landing. The wind pushed back her white hair. A look of excitement and wonder spread across her face. She picked up her legs as the ground approached. And finally, she managed to land on the ground.
The crowd gathered along the landing area. Friends rushed to share the moment. Someone brought over Hoffner’s red walker. She rose fast, and a reporter asked how it felt to be back on the ground. “The whole thing was wonderful, and couldn’t have been better,” she said.
The Guinness World Record for oldest skydiver was set in May 2022 by 103-year-oldLinn éa Ingegard Larsson from Sweden. When asked how it felt like to break the record, Hoffner replied quickly, “Like I’ m old.” But the record didn’t seem to interest Hoffner before the jump. Instead, she focused on the peaceful falling through the sky. Hoffiner strongly encouraged others to sky-dive like her. “It’s surprisingly affordable and so amazing,” she said.

It sounds like a math problem. How do you make one of the world’s most famous ancient sites bigger You can’t build more of it.
So with ever more tourists pouring into the site, the team behind the Archaeological (考古的) Park of Pompeii have found a plan B— dividing visitors around ancient sites that are farther, with all-in-one tickets and buses laid on between the sites.
The ancient city of Pompeii will be a scattered archaeological park, including the archaeological areas of Pompeii itself, as well as famous old houses in nearby villages or towns. The sites have already become part of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, but until now, they have been selling their own tickets. They are also far away from each other— the park’ s sites cross around 8 miles— with little public transport to some of them.
The inaccessibility (难达到) to the old houses means that visitor numbers are low. While nearly four million people visited Pompeii itself in 2019, only 55,000 made it to see House A, which is thought to have been owned by the emperor Nero and his second wife. Only 52,000 went as far as the two houses at Stabiae, House Arianna and House San Marco. But visitor numbers to Pompeii rose from under 2.7 million in 2014 to over 3.9 million by2019.In July 2023, a record 21, 141 people visited the park in a single day.
A bus service around the sites— the Pompeii Artebus— was started in 2021. Tickets for the connected sites will be acceptable for three days, with free buses connecting all the sites.
32.How is the Archaeological Park of Pompeii made bigger
A.By connecting nearby sites. B.By improving the service.
C.By building more of it. D.By attracting more tourists.
33 What does the underlined word “scattered” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Spread-out. B.Personal. C.Impressive. D.Narrow.
34.What can be learned about Pompeii itself from paragraph 4
A.It has lost its attraction. B.It was rebuilt in 2019.
C.It is free for visitors all the time. D.It is overcrowded with visitors.
35.What does the text mainly talk about
A.The ancient Pompeii bringing in modern transport.
B.The Archaeological Park of Pompeii getting bigger.
C.The Archaeological Park of Pompeii getting more popular.
D.The ancient houses in Pompeii changing their tickets.

Tips for Teaching Kids Responsibility
Your best friend has a teenager who helps with housework without being asked. Your cousin has a one-year-old child that puts her bottle in the sink when she finishes the milk, but no reminders are needed. 36 Raising helpful, good kids who know how to make a sandwich is not a fantasy! The following tips can give you a better chance of raising a responsible child who then grows into a responsible adult.
37 You can’t suddenly spring responsibility on a teenager and expect he will know how to follow through. He needs time to practice and totally understand what responsibility means.
Let kids help you. Don’t complain when it’s time to do housework. 38 When your child is invited to participate, he feels valued. He will take these good feelings and learn to take ownership of his home and feel proud in keeping it up.
39 Make responsibilities age appropriate. You can show how to complete small tasks in daily life and perform them at a child’s skill level. For example, if your kid wants a snack, show him where the apples are and how to wash one off.
Teach your child consequences(结果). Learning to take care of his things also helps a child develop a sense of responsibility for his actions. Get your son to clean up after an art project, and inform him that he won’t be able to play with his crayons the next day if he leaves a messy table. Then take away his supplies if he does not take his responsibility. 40
A.Have a sense of responsibility.
B.Show kids how to perform responsibility.
C.Where do these wonderful children come from
D.Start to teach responsibility to kids early.
E.Why do they make a sandwich for kids
F.Smile and invite your son to help.
G.The more you carry out the rules, the more likely he’s to clean up without being asked.

My family went on our annual(每年的) summer vacation in a small house on a lake. Every day we kids are busy swimming, fishing and building sand castle on the beach. By the third day of our vacation, however, something caught my attention. I noticed my 10-year-old sister, Kate, always watching videos and looking through online shops indoors. She was so addicted to her cell phone! Over dinner, I asked Kate whether she would like to go hike to the top of the mountain across the lake the following morning. “Maybe you need put your phone away and enjoy the wonderful scenery. It’s really amazing.”
“Well,” Kate replied unwillingly, “there are some bargains(减价品) tomorrow in several online shops, so I’ll not be available tomorrow.”
“You can’t miss the fresh air and beautiful views here. Hiking is really fun!”
“I cannot walk so far”, she didn’t look up from her soup and mumbled (嘟囔), “and it sounds more like punishment than a vacation.”
When I said it only took us half an hour of steady walk to climb to the top, though reluctant, she nodded, “Fine, I’ll go.”
The weather was fine as usual with clear skies and gentle winds. After packing, I found Kate walking slowly downstairs and in a very unenthusiastic (不热情的) voice, “Ok, I’m ready to go. Tom”
Anyway, when we stepped out of our house, quite a different view unfolded before our eyes. Sunlight brightened on the glassy surface of the lake. Not far away, a rough path wound to the top of the mountain across the lake with flowers and grass on both sides. We began from the path.
“Tom, I’m still wondering if it is a good idea to go hiking.” Kate said, frowning (皱眉).

66.Dear Paul,
I’m very sorry to hear that you are suffering from tension due to heavy workload. I would like to recommend a sport to you.
From my perspective, skiing is a really good sport, which makes you feel relaxed. This sport can make you stay healthy and strong. It can help you to exercise almost every part of your body every time you go skiing. Before going skiing, you should pay attention to three points. The first is to make your body in a better state. The second is that you should not eat too much. And thirdly, you’d better go skiing with your friends. These can help you stay safe and enjoy yourself.
I sincerely hope that your life will carry on as normal. Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 (满分25)
67.参考范文
She followed me but kept some distance, thinking something else. Minutes later, we started to climb a steep slope. Kate sighed, dragging her legs behind me. I was surprised to find some rarely-seen trees and flowers, and took many photos but Kate showed no interest. She stopped and sat on a rock, thirsty, sweaty and bored. I handed her a bottle of water and we took a break. “I missed my phone.” she complained as we continued climbing. Though unhappy, she just climbed along with me.
Reaching the top, Kate widened her eyes, shouting, “How wonderful!” She looked around dreamily, her eyes twinkling with indescribably wild excitement. A refreshing breeze brushed the mountain top, miles of trees spread out below us and birds chirped between branches. We sat on a large rock and ate sandwiches, enjoying the sounds, the smells and the sunlight. “Anyone still wants her phone ” I joked. She rolled her eyes, laughing out loud. The next morning, Kate danced to my room, crying, “Let’s hike around the lake today.” “Sure, get our backpack then.” I beamed, relieved and joyful.

【原文】M: When I left the United States for Mexico, I was excited but worried. Although I had a job waiting for me there and I had met my new boss, I had to learn a new culture, make friends, and I also had to learn a new language. Despite the challenges, I was determined to make the most of the opportunity.
Shortly after arriving, I kept a rescue dog that I named Marley. She helped me find my footing in the new country and kept me company when I was homesick. She was afraid of loud noise, and it took time and effort to help her become more comfortable in a new environment. This taught me patience.
I was determined to learn Spanish. I took classes and practiced the language by talking to the locals. As I slowly began to pick up the language,I realized that understanding the culture and the history was exciting and it was more than just remembering vocabulary and grammar. Soon, it was about making the most of the experience.
I’ve been in Mexico for a few years now, and I can confidently say that I am doing well here.
