Step 1. Lead-in. Observe the pictures and learn to say the names of the animals.Ss: Jellyfish, crab, turtle, seahorse, octopus. Watch the video and learn about the octopus. Try to answer T’s questions in English.Sa: Yes, it lives in the ocean.Sb: It has a soft, round body with long, flexible arms.Sc: Maybe it can swim very fast, or change its color to protect itself. Show some pictures of animals in the ocean.T: What’s this Play a video about the octopus. Step 2. Reading.Fast reading. Look through the title, the picture and the text, tell the type of the passage and find out the structure and the main idea.Sa: Exposition.Sb: Four paragraphs.Match the main idea of each paragraph. They can get the main idea at the beginning or end of the paragraph.Careful reading.Read Para.1 and answer the questions.Sa: They are strange and unusual.Sb: About 300.Sc: They mean the length of the octopuses.Read Para.2&3 and choose six amazing things about octopuses to complete the map.Read Para.4 carefully and answer the question. Watch the video. Try to infer according to the descriptions of the passage. Let Ss observe the title, the picture and the text. And ask some questions.T: What’s the type of the passage T: How many paragraphs are there T: Which one is the correct structure of the passage Provide some main ideas and guide Ss to have a conclusion. Step 3. Post-reading.Finish the mind map and retell the text.Think of some other amazing animals. Work in groups and have a discussion about them. After discussing, share their opinions in class. Other Ss give comments according to the evaluation standards.Sa: Today I would like to introduce a kind of amazing animal. It’s the chameleon... Let Ss complete the mind map and talk about the amazing octopus.Ask Ss to close books and fill in the blanks.T: Do you know any other amazing animals Encourage Ss to share their knowledge about other amazing animals with their group members. Invite Ss to make a report in class. Every day many wild (animal) are being killed, so we can't see lots of wild animals anymore. If we don't protect (they), they will all die out. Luckily, more and more people begin to do many things (help) protect wild animals. They ask people to stop (kill) wild animals. They get people to know that protecting wild animals is (importance). Now many countries make some laws(法律) to protect wild animals. Wild animals are so important to us we should do our best to protect them. We can make friends with animals and get on well with them.
