This is the season for spending, or so it seems, as we look ahead to the end-of-year holidays and start shelling out money left and right for decorations, presents, food, and on and on. To keep more of your money in your pocket, follow these dos and don’ts.
Do consider joining a membership program.
Programs from Amazon Walmart and others can get you more than discounts and rewards. Membership also gets you fast, free deliveries on other qualifying orders with no minimums, plus other perks.
Do buy low.
Price trackers help you time your purchases so you can pounce (抓住机会) when prices hit rock bottom or close to it. At the very least, these tools can give you pricing information so you’ ll know a good deal when you see it.
Don’t fall for fake reviews.
Review fraud is rampant (猖獗), and it could get a lot harder to spot fake user reviews, thanks to the growing use of artificial intelligence. Two tools that can help you shop smarter with user reviews are Fakespot and ReviewMeta, which rate product ratings. Both sites also tease out trustworthy comments to help you find relevant and insightful product information.
Don’t put off those payments.
“Buy now, pay later” (BNPL) options are advocated by companies like Affirm and Afterpay. You can pay in installments (分期付款), and you don’t have to wait to get your goodies. But there is a big downside: If you’ re struggling with debt, BNPL payments can dig your hole deeper, ending up raising your interest rates on mortgage and car loans.
21. What additional benefits can membership programs offer
A. Free fast deliveries with no minimums.
B. Exclusive early access to new products.
C. Personalized shopping recommendations.
D. Guaranteed rock bottom prices of all items.
22. How can consumers identify fake reviews more effectively
A. Checking for purchase labels on reviews.
B. Using price trackers to analyze review trends.
C. Joining loyalty programs for authentic reviews
D. Applying tools like Fakespot and ReviewMeta.
23. What is the purpose of this passage
A. To promote membership programs
B. To warn consumers of unstable prices
C. To provide shopping tips on money saving.
D. To discourage customers from shopping online.

A native of Florida, U.S, Hannah Herbst, 17, uses water power to deal with energy poverty. Herbst has risen to fame with the development of BEACON, an ocean energy probe that seeks to offer a stable power source to developing countries by using untapped energy from ocean currents.
She told Teen Vogue, “I was really involved in theater and athletics and I’m still really into those things. When I was in the seventh grade, I was put into a summer camp. The minute I got there I realized that I was the only girl in the program. I wanted to quit at that moment. But my dad told me, ‘Just try it.’ I tried it for that day and it changed my life.”
“At the camp, we started building the robots, which was something I had never done before but many of the boys had, and I realized it was a platform for problem-solving. We were solving simple tasks like how to push a robot off a platform. Learning from my partners as well as online articles about how to program and build was really interesting to me,” said Herbst.
Later that year, she received a letter from her pen pal, Ruth, who lived in Ethiopia, and learned that she was living in energy poverty with minimal access to electricity and medical supplies. “I knew that I wanted to do something to help, so I created BEACON.” she said.
The device is made from 90% recycled materials easily found throughout the world, including 2-liter bottles and recycled spoons. It costs $12 to make and can produce enough electricity to power an LED light. Hannah imagines BEACON being used in developing countries to power pumps for fresh water and she is working on polishing it to get it available to people all over the world.
24. What can we know about Hannah Herbst in the second and third paragraphs
A. She just liked to learn how to build robots.
B. She wanted to stay here because she is the only girl.
C. She learned at least two techniques during the camp.
D. She was attracted to the summer camp right from the start.
25. How did Hannah Herbst feel after she received a letter from her pen pal
A. indifferent B. shocked C. light-hearted D. sympathetic
26. What can we learn about BEACON from the article
A. It costs 12 dollars each and still remains to be improved.
B. It is recyclable and available to people across the world.
C. It has been used in developing countries to power pumps.
D. The electricity it generates can be used with many traditional lamps.
27. Which section in the magazine might this passage come from
A. Affairs B. Personage C. Science D. Economics

For millions of years, bees, moths and other pollinators have used scents (香气) to locate flowers and transfer pollen (花粉) to any flowers they later visit. But something is changing today. When the scents of flowers interact with certain air pollutants (污染物) at night, key scents are destroyed. Moths and other nighttime pollinators may find it hard to recognize the flowers they were seeking, researchers show.
The Seattle team conducted field and lab tests with a plant — the pale evening primrose. Ecologist Jeremy Chan put bags over pale evening primroses to trap the flowers’ scent. Then he took the scent back to the lab, along with some moths. They released the primrose scent and moths into a wind tunnel that could mimic conditions in an outdoor field. At once, they watched the moths easily flying straight upwind and tracking the scent. But it was different when pollutants, like ozone and nitrogen dioxide, were added to the mix. Now, the moths flew in a “Z” line. They seemed to be seeking the scent — often without success.
The team then decided to test its findings in nature at night. The result was the same. When this scent was mixed with the pollutants, moths’ visits dropped. Some moths even never found a single flower during the tests. Besides, the same reactions could hurt flowers’ scents by day. But because sunlight can break down ozone, the problem is likely more serious for night pollinators.
As Earth’s climate warms, it’s likely that a mix of pollutants will continue to climb. Such conditions could worsen the pollution threat to flowers’ scents and plant pollination. “As we know, pollination is important to food growers”, noted Joel Thornton. He’s an atmospheric scientist in the team. He said pollution could pose a new type of threat to farming.
28. Why do moths have trouble finding out flowers today
A. Flowers’ scents interrupt moth. B. Pollutants affect flowers’ scents.
C. Flowers are not available at night. D. Flowers are changing their scents.
29. How did the researchers get the findings
A. By monitoring moths’ behaviors. B. By detecting the primrose scent.
C. By analyzing the types of pollutants. D. By comparing scents with pollutants.
30. What did Joel Thornton think of the findings
A. Amusing. B. Promising. C. Satisfying. D. Worrying.
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A Pollinators: Lost in Pollutants B. Scents: Gone with the Wind.
C. Pollinators: Master of a Garden. D. Scents: Nature’s Secret Language.
D
In a time when technological changes are remaking every part of our lives, the growing area of quantum computing has come up as a revolutionary power. It has the possibility to change industries from healthcare to finance in ways that we are just starting to understand. Quantum computers are different from normal computers. They use the special features of quantum mechanics, like superposition and entanglement, to do complex calculations at speeds that are much, much faster.
For example, think about the medical industry. Discovering new drugs is a very slow and resource-using process. Traditional ways mean looking through a large number of chemical compounds to find those that might be able to treat diseases. But quantum computers could perhaps analyze these compounds in a much shorter time. By imitating the behavior of molecules at the quantum level, they can figure out how different compounds will interact with biological targets. This would speed up the development of new drugs.
However, the way to using quantum computing widely is full of challenges. One of the biggest problems is the issue of quantum decoherence. Quantum states are extremely easy to be broken by outside factors, such as heat or electromagnetic interference. To keep these quantum states stable for long enough to do useful calculations is still a big problem for scientists.
Another worry is about the moral problems of this powerful technology. As quantum computers get better at breaking traditional encryption methods, the safety of important information, including financial data and personal records, is in danger. So, there is a strong need to develop new encryption algorithms that can resist quantum computing to protect our digital world.
32. What makes quantum computers different from classical computers
A. They are more widely used in various industries.
B. They are less affected by external factors.
C. They can perform all tasks much faster.
D. They utilize the unique properties of quantum mechanics.
33. How could quantum computers impact the medical industry
A. By reducing the cost of drug production.
B. By replacing traditional screening methods completely.
C. By improving the quality of existing drugs.
D. By speeding up the drug discovery process.
34. What is the main challenge in the widespread use of quantum computing
A. The difficulty in maintaining quantum state stability.
B. The limited application contexts.
C. The high cost of building quantum computers.
D. The lack of skilled scientists in this field.
35. Why is there an urgent need for new encryption algorithms
A. Because current algorithms are too complex for quantum computers.
B. Because traditional encryption methods are no longer effective.
C. Because quantum computers may pose a threat to information security.
D. Because new algorithms can better adapt to quantum computing.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
With the widespread use of computers, increasing students type with a greater-than-ever reliance on them to take notes and write papers. ____36____ Some parents of younger students are dismayed that their children are not just encouraged but required to take laptops to class. Additionally, university professors complain of rampant (泛滥的) distraction in classrooms, with students reading and messaging instead of listening to lectures.
A line of research shows the benefits of an “innovation” that predates computers handwriting. ____37____ It helps students recall a random series of words and grasp complicated concepts better. For learning materials by note (死记硬背), from the shapes of letters to the irregularity of English spelling, the benefits of using a pen or pencil lie in how the motor and sensory memory of putting words on paper reinforces that material.
One of the best-demonstrated advantages of handwriting seems to be in superior note-taking. In a study from 2014 by Pam Mueller and Danny Oppenheimer, students typing wrote down almost twice as many words and more passages word for word from lectures. ____38____ However, handwriting — which takes longer for nearly all university-level students — forces note-takers to transform ideas into their own words. ____39____ Those taking notes by hand also allows students to perform better on tests when they are later able to study from their notes.
Many studies have confirmed handwriting’s benefits, and policymakers have taken note. ____40____ In Sweden there is a push for more handwriting books and fewer devices. Although nearly all will eventually need typing skills,in an age of typing, handwriting still matters.
A. Studies have found that handwriting can benefit a lot.
B. This aids conceptual understanding at the moment of writing.
C. But today a different debate is raging about the dangers of typing.
D. However, several schools in America have gone so far to ban most laptops.
E. It suggested they didn’t understand so much as rapidly copying the material.
F. Especially, studies have found that writing on paper can better students’ performance.
G. For instance, about half the states in America have required more teaching of handwriting.

Last summer, I joined a week-long outdoor camp in the mountains with my classmates. Fresh air and bird songs welcomed us as we arrived at the camp, where tents stood in an open area like small white dots. We were excited about the adventure, telling stories by the fire each night, our faces bright with hopes of exploring new places and challenging ourselves.
On the third morning, our teachers asked us to climb Eagle’s Crest, a sharp mountain top hidden in morning fog. The path started gently through fields of flowers but soon became a steep, winding road up the mountain. By noon, the sun burned hot, making the rocks feel like hot plates. My water bottle was almost empty as we climbed higher, where breathing felt harder. Behind me, Sarah’s cheerful talk turned into tired breaths, and Tom leaned on his walking stick, his shirt wet with sweat.
My legs shook like jelly as I stopped at a turn. “Look how high we are!” I shouted, pointing at the valley now looking like a toy model far below. Mia shook her water bottle, which made an empty sound. “We’re almost there!” I said, trying to smile. Holding hands with those falling behind, we formed a line to climb the last part, our steps crunching on loose stones.
When we reached the top, the view left us speechless. Green mountains rolled like giant waves to the horizon, cut by shiny rivers. As we shared snacks, dark clouds gathered in the west, their bottoms gray with coming rain. A strong wind blew my map from my hands, sending it flying into the air below.

第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】 The air turned cold as black clouds filled the sky. “Find shelter! Now! ” our teacher shouted over the howling wind. We hurried down a rocky path while ice balls hit our backs like angry bees. Through blurred eyes, I noticed a small cave partly covered by bushes. Pushing Lisa inside, we rolled into the damp space just as the ground turned white with ice. Tom tried to open his raincoat, but its rustling sound was lost in the storm’s noise. Sitting shoulder to shoulder, we counted lightning flashes and laughed nervously, our voices bouncing off the walls like echoes.
The fierce storm stopped about an hour later. When stepping out and walking downhill, we laughed about slipping on wet rocks and helping each other stand. Back at camp, though our hands were dirty and our feet hurt, we held warm cups of cocoa tightly. Mia broke the silence. “That storm was scary, but it made our trip unforgettable.” Everyone nodded, and I realized true adventure isn’t just reaching a goal, but learning how ordinary people can become brave and united when facing difficulties together. The mountain taught us that teamwork shines brightest in stormy moments.
