教学目的 By the end of the class, students are expected to: 1.understand the usages and form of the past continuous tense. (学习理解) 2.use past continuous tense to describe what people were doing in the laboratory. (应用实践) 3.find out who the thief is by asking questions and write a report with past continuous tense. (迁移创新)
教学重点难点 教学重点: Students can understand the form and usages of the past continuous tense Students can use the past continuous tense in different situations correctly. 教学难点: Students can write a report with the past continuous tense to explain who the thief is.

Activity 1 Warm-up A robot from 2050 welcomes students to visit their high-tech science laboratory and plays a video for them. Students watch a video from 2050 and think about what people were doing. To arouse students’ interest of the topic
Activity 2 Fill in the blanks Teacher shows students three pictures and asks them to fill in the sentences. Students fill in the blanks according to the pictures. To set a suitable situation for students to learn the new grammar
Activity 3 Work out the rules Teacher helps students to make a conclusion of the form and usage of the past continuous tense. Students observe the sentences and work out the rules. To help students learn the basic form of the past continuous tense.
Activity 4 Ask questions A robot appears again. It congratulates students on passing the first task and tells them a new problems-A piece of portable DNA equipment is missing. Students need to help find out who stole it. To find out the thief, they need to ask the four people questions. To set a real situation for students to learn how to ask questions with the past continuous tense.
Activity 5 Work out the rules II Teacher helps students to make a conclusion of the form of the Yes/No questions and Wh-questions. Teachers asks students to ask the scientist, the biologist, the engineer, and the research assistant more questions to find out who the thief is. Students observe the sentences they made and find out the rules. Students ask more questions with the past continuous tense by themselves. To help students master the form of the Yes/No questions and Wh-questions of the past continuous tense. To help students to put what they have learned into practice.
Activity 6 Question the suspects Teacher asks students to design a dialogues between them and one of the suspects according to the pictures on the PPT and shows an example to the students. Students imagine they were a detective and they need to design a dialogues between them and one of the suspects according to the pictures on the PPT. To create a real situation for students to put what they have learned about the past continuous tense into practice.

Activity 8 Finish reports Teacher shows the reports of the four suspects and asks to complete the report. Teacher asks students to find out who the thief is according to the four reports. Students finish the reports according to the words in the parentheses. Students need to analyze the four reports of the suspects and find out who the thief is and tell the reasons. To help students further practice the past continuous tense To develop students critical thinking ability and create a real situation for students to practice the grammar.
Activity 9 Summary Teacher helps students to summarize the form and usages of the past continuous tense. Students draw a mind map of the past continuous tense. To help students have a better understanding of the past continuous tense

Activity 11 Homework Teacher introduces the homework to the pulsory: Describe a day of a scientist who is from 2050 with the past continuous tense. Optional: Shoot a video about who the thief is according to the dialogues and reports of the lesson. You can work with your group members. Students get to know the homework.
