Have students answer the following question and review what they have learnt in “Welcome to the unit”. Can you introduce some traditional Chinese crafts that we learnt about Have students answer the two questions on page 44 before reading the article. Activity 2 Predict and discuss Have students look at the picture and read the rubrics on page 44, and then answer the following questions. (1) What do you think this article is about (2) What type of text is this article Step 2 While-reading Activity 1 Read for gist Have students skim the article and finish Part A on page 45. Activity 2 Read for details Have students scan the article and finish Part B on page 45. Activity 3 Read for language Have students analyse the features of this feature article. Have students read the tip on page 44 and answer the following question. (1) What tense does this article use Why does the writer quote Zhao Yue’s words directly Why does the writer start the first paragraph with “Zhao Yue’s hands move quickly.” and the last paragraph with “Zhao Yue makes the last cut.” Step 3 Post-reading Activity 1 Fill and think 1. Have students finish Part C on page 46. 2. Have students answer question 1 in Part D on page 46. Activity 3 Think and answer 1. Have students answer question 2 in Part D on page 46. 2. Have students work in groups and discuss question 3 in Part D on page 46. Step 4 Summary Ask students to summarize what they have learned in this lesson. Step 5 Homework Compulsory homework: 1. Introduce the art of paper-cutting and the story of Zhao Yue to your friends or family members. 2. Preview Grammar on P47.
