Ben was eleven years old when he spotted his neighbour, Julie, working in her garden. He
popped his head over the fence, and said to her, “I' ve seen you' re very good with a lawn
mower(割草机) and gardening tools. The hedge(树篱) over the pathway near here has become
so overgrown that I am planning to cut it back myself. Would you like to help out ”
Julie loved the idea of helping Ben and their community. They agreed to cut the hedge the
following Sunday. Ben's brother Josh, aged 8 at the time, also came along to help. All three of
them tackled away at it until they reduced it.
They posted photos of their handiwork on“Our Malmesbury”, their local Facebook Group.
The community reaction was amazing. The comments and reactions just kept on coming. The
whole town of Malmesbury seemed to embrace their team spirit and felt inspired to follow their
lead. Many people raised their hands to volunteer and do more to keep their town tidy. With

now, the place looks cleaner and tidier.

been up to. Ben also managed to sort funding through local businesses and associations. The
funding has helped them obtain trees, plants, tools, and gardening equipment. When community
members plan a clean-up,they can contact them via the website to access any tools and
equipment they need to complete a project.

We all know fresh is best when it comes to food. However, most produce at the store went
through weeks of travel and covered hundreds of miles before reaching the table. While
farmer’s markets are a solid choice to reduce the journey, Babylon Micro-Farm (BMF) shortens
it even more.
BMF is an indoor garden system. It can be set up for a family. Additionally, it could serve
a larger audience such as a hospital, restaurant or school. The innovative design requires little
effort to achieve a reliable weekly supply of fresh greens.
Specifically, it’s a farm that relies on new technology. By connecting through the Cloud,
BMF is remotely monitored. Also, there is a convenient app that provides growing data in real
time. Because the system is automated, it significantly reduces the amount of water needed to
grow plants. Rather than watering rows of soil, the system provides just the right amount to
each plant. After harvest, users simply replace the plants with a new pre-seeded pod (容器) to
get the next growth cycle started.
Moreover, having a system in the same building where it’s eaten means zero emissions (排
放) from transporting plants from soil to salad. In addition, there’s no need for pesticides and
other chemicals that pollute traditional farms and the surrounding environment.
BMF employees live out sustainability in their everyday lives. About half of them walk or
bike to work. Inside the office, they encourage recycling and waste reduction by limiting
garbage cans and avoiding single-use plastic. “We are passionate about reducing waste, carbon
and chemicals in our environment,” said a BMF employee.
28. What can be learned about BMF from paragraph 1
A.It guarantees the variety of food. B.It requires day-to-day care.
C.It cuts the farm-to-table distance. D.It relies on farmer’s markets.
29. What information does the convenient app offer
A.Real-time weather changes. B.Current condition of the plants.
C.Chemical pollutants in the soil. D.Availability of pre-seeded pods.
30. What can be concluded about BMF employees
A.They have a great passion for sports.
B.They are devoted to community service.
C.They are fond of sharing daily experiences.
D.They have a strong environmental awareness.
31. What does the text mainly talk about
A.BMF’s major strengths. B.BMF’s general management.
C.BMF’s global influence. D.BMF’s technical standards.

A star athlete at the college where I work recently stopped by my office. After committing
公众号:好未来试卷 公众号:试卷共享圈 公众号:学霸之路试卷 公众号:985试卷 公众号:清北之路试卷
a few unforced errors during a weekend match, she was torn apart by self-criticism. “I can’t stop
beating myself up,” she told me. “I’m at peak fitness, and I practice hard. How is this
happening ”
Many students I teach, like this athlete, believe that all-nighters in the library and hours on
the field should get them exactly where they need to go. When they fall short of what they
imagine they should accomplish, they are crushed by self-blame.
We talk often about young adults struggling with failure because their parents have
protected them from discomfort. But there is something else at play among the most privileged
in particular: a false promise that they can achieve anything if they are willing to work for it.
Psychologists have sourced this phenomenon to a misapplication of “mind set” research,
which has found that praising children for effort will increase academic performance. But a
recent analysis found that while praising effort over ability may benefit high-risk or
economically disadvantaged students, it does not necessarily help everyone.
The cruel, messy reality is that you can do everything in your power and still fail. Instead
of allowing our kids to beat themselves up when things don’t go their way, we should all
question a culture that has taught them that feeling anything less than overwhelmed means
they’re lazy, and that where they go to college matters more than the kind of person they are.
It’s suggested that parents and teachers spend time helping students find purpose, or goals they
genuinely love to pursue and that make an impact on the world, which may help them gain
greater life satisfaction and become more psychologically mature.
The point is not to give our kids a pass on working hard. But we would be wise to remind
our kids that life may beat us up unexpectedly sometimes. It’s often the people who learn to say
“stuff happens” who get up the fastest.
32.Which sort of students does the star athlete belong to
A.Those lacking courage to make self-criticism.
B.Those tired of working all night in the library.
C.Those believing hard work surely pay off.
D.Those overprotected by their parents in life.
33.What can we learn from Paragraph 4
A.Praising effort over ability will surely be beneficial to all kids.
B.The result of the “mindset” research doesn’t apply to all cases.
C.Parents should lay more emphasis on their kids’ academic performance.
D.Whether praising kids’ effort over ability does good to kids depends.
34.According to the author, how can parents help the kids overcome barriers in life
A.By choosing where to go to college for them.
B.By pushing them to fight against the cruel reality.
C.By discouraging them from making efforts to study hard.
D.By encouraging them to stick to a worthy cause they truly love.
35.What can be inferred from the passage
公众号:好未来试卷 公众号:试卷共享圈 公众号:学霸之路试卷 公众号:985试卷 公众号:清北之路试卷
A.Students should not expect too much from their study.

D.Students are sure to succeed if they try their best.

In a busy local supermarket, Emma, a diligent college student, worked as a cashier to make

dream of becoming an artist. Despite her tight schedule, Emma’ s firm commitment meant she
never missed a day of work.
One particular day, though, would prove to be unlike any other. Emma's workday typically
began at 3 pm and ended around 10 pm. That day progressed like any other until Emma found
herself with just an hour left before her first break.
Then a weary-looking mother arrived at the checkout with her son and a grocery cart. The

The woman explained that her five-year-old son, Tristan, was the man of the house, and his
younger brother was in hospital, putting an emotional weight on him. Emma couldn't help but
empathize, recalling her own experiences as a child with a sick brother.
Emma asked Tristan for his name, and as he cheerfully replied, “Tristan”, Emma presented
him with a lollipop (棒棒糖). She ran it through the register to ring it up before handing it to the
delighted young boy.
What Emma hadn't noticed during her initial scan of the woman's items was the growing
excitement on Tristan's face as each beep (滴滴声 ) from the register resounded. Eager and
enthusiastic, he asked, “Can I help Can I help ” Emma’ s heartwarming response was, “Of
course!”She lifted Tristan to her workstation, teaching him how to ring up groceries.
Unknown to Emma, Tristan's mother took a photo of their interaction, capturing her son's

AI in my eyes
In today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, artificial intelligence (AI) plays a crucial
role in shaping various aspects of our lives. It has truly become an integral part of our lives. In
transportation, self-driving cars are gradually emerging. In education, it offers customized learning
resources. And it powers voice assistants, enabling us to control devices hands-free.
In my eyes, though AI boosts efficiency and convenience, it may cause concerns like job
displacement and privacy issues. We should regulate and utilize AI properly to maximize its benefits
while minimizing risks.
In conclusion, AI is a powerful tool that can reshape our world for the better if we handle it
with care.
