William Feather shows how important it is to keep going. In our lives, we often meet problems and failures that make us feel like quitting. But it’s the people who don’t give up who reach great things in the end.
Think about Thomas Edison. He tried thousands of times before he made the light bulb. If he had stopped after a few tries, we would still be in the dark. His not giving up changed the world and gives us hope and courage. Also, consider the story of J. K. Rowling. She faced numerous rejections before her" Harry Potter" series became a global phenomenon. These examples highlight that perseverance is the key to unlocking extraordinary achievements.
In our own lives too like when we learn a new thing like playing an instrument or getting fit, keeping at it is the main thing. Starting is easy, but when it gets hard, the ones who keep trying are the ones who succeed. If we don’t keep going, our dreams will just stay as dreams. We need to be strong and keep working for what we want even when things are tough.
4. What is the main idea of this text
A. The good thing about giving up fast.
B. How important it is to keep trying to succeed.
C. The story of Thomas Edison’s life.
D. How to get fit well.
5. Why does the text talk about Thomas Edison
A. To show how strong not giving up can be with his story.
B. Because he was a well-known inventor.
C. To say that failing is not a big deal.
D. Because he made a lot of things.
6. Why are successful people different
A. Because they have more talent.
B. Because they don’t have goals.
C. Because they are luckier.
D. Because they don’t give up.
7. What does the writer say we should do when we have problems
A. Stop right away.
B. Pretend there are no problems.
C. Keep trying and work for our aims.
D. Wait for others to fix the problems.

One day I typed into ChatGPT all about my upset feelings and it instantly responded, offering a list of practical advice. Nowadays millions of people are already turning to Chat-GPT and specialist therapy (治疗) chatbots for convenient and inexpensive mental health support.
Some experts say this is a boon. After all, AI, undisturbed by embarrassment and burnout, might be able to express empathy (同理心) more openly and tirelessly than humans. But others worry about the consequences of people seeking emotional support from machines that can only pretend to care. Some even wonder if the rise of so-called empathetic AI might change the way we interact with one another. Indeed, empathy is one of our species’ defining qualities, developing as it did in pace with social interaction.
One recent analysis about empathy looked at 52 studies published between 1980and 2019, which shows that the empathiser must first be able to recognize how the other person is feeling. They must also be affected by those emotions and differentiate between themselves and the other person, grasping that the other person’s feelings aren’t their own while still being able to imagine their experience.
On the first point, in recent years, AI-powered chatbots have made progress in their ability to read human emotions, most powered by large language models (LLMs) that work by predicting which words are most likely to appear together based on training data. In this way, LLMs like ChatGPT can seemingly identify our feelings and respond appropriately most of the time. But when it comes to the other criteria, AI still misses the mark in many ways. Empathy is interpersonal, with continued feedback helping to perfect the empathiser’s response, which also requires some degree of intuitive (直觉) awareness of an individual and their situation.
All of this helps to explain conversations like the ones I had with ChatGPT. At the end of the day, despite talking to multiple chat-bots online, I did what I knew I had to do all along: I picked up my phone and called a friend.
8. What does the underlined word “boon” in Paragraph 2 mean
A. Trap. B. Prize. C. Blessing. D. Challenge.
9. What does the recent analysis show about empathy
A. It calls for clear communication. B. It starts with emotion identification.
C. It rules out individual difference. D. It depends on rich imagination.
10. What can AI do according to Paragraph 4
A. Provide data-driven feedback. B. Recognize one’s real desire.
C. Update large language models. D. Predict one’s behavior by intuition.
11. What does the author think of ChatGPT
A. Its development should be sped up. B. Its intelligence is winning more favor.
C. Its application should be strictly managed. D. Its artificial kindness is no match for humans’.

Jake Lee Pinnick is busy preparing food, clothing and house decorations, putting up couplets and visiting friends with his family to celebrate the Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar NewYear.
In 2010, the 32-year-old American traveled to the Wudang Mountains, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in central China’s Hubei Province, to learn martial arts. Pinnick said he was very interested in Chinese Kung Fu from a young age.
When Pinnick first arrived in the Wudang Mountains, he had no earlier training or martial arts experience, so he began with a five-year training program, learning the basics and all aboutTaoist culture. Pinnick said the first six months were the hardest, because he had to train for eight or nine hours, six days a week, whatever the temperature outside.
After over a decade of hard training, he has mastered various forms of Chinese Kung Fu, including Tai Chi and Qigong, and become a guider with about 200 apprentices (学徒) in China. As the new year begins, people are starting new chapters in their lives and making resolutions. Pinnick also has many plans and wishes — he plans on making more efforts to learn the Chinese language this year. In addition to learning Chinese, Pinnick will continue to learn about traditional Chinese culture and how to play Chinese musical instruments in his leisure time, and he will share his experience on social media.
“I think that the experience I’ve had, being a foreigner coming to China and learning the culture from outside, is unique. I hope to introduce Chinese Kung Fu and traditions to more westerners,” he said.
12. What was Pinnick’s main reason for traveling to the Wudang Mountains

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I grew up in a small town and in a time, not so long ago, when children could come home for lunch and find their mothers waiting.
At the time, I did not consider this a luxury, although today, it certainly would be. My mother was a nurse. Though she didn’t talk much about her work in the hospital, I could tell she had her own plans and dreams in her career. She always wore a sweet smile and spoke gently when she was on the phone with her patients. But as a child, I took it for granted that mothers were the sandwich-makers, the finger-painting appreciators, the homework monitors, and housework doers in a child’s life. I never gave much thought to the fact that this ambitious, intelligent woman would spend almost every lunch hour throughout those years with me. For this, I am forever grateful.
One lunchtime in particular will stay with me forever. I was in the third grade and two weeks earlier had been picked to be the princess in the spring play. Every lunch hour, my mother rehearsed (排练) my lines with me. But no matter how easily I delivered them at home, as soon as I stepped onstage, every word disappeared from my head.
Finally, my teacher kindly asked me to switch to a narrator’s part in the play. I didn’t tell my mother that noon what had happened. But she seemed to sense my unease because she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard after lunch.
It was a lovely spring day and the grass was becoming thick under our feet. Our rose vine on the fence was turning green. Throughout the grass we could see yellow dandelions (蒲公英) in bunches, as if a painter had touched our landscape with drops of gold.
“I think I’m going to dig up all these weeds,” she said, pulling a dandelion up by its roots.

I felt at once surprised and relieved that she had guessed my pain.

I’m sorry to hear that you are feeling stressed and weak since entering high school. I recommend you to take up running.

【47题答案】
【答案】One possible version:
“I think I’m going to dig up all these weeds,” she said, pulling a dandelion up by its roots. I protested, “But they’re so pretty! Look at how bright and golden they are.” She paused, holding the dandelion gently in her hand, and smiled. “You’re right,” she said. “They are beautiful in their own way. Just like people — everyone has their own unique charm, even if they don’t fit into what others expect.” She looked at me intently, her eyes filled with understanding and concern. “I can see something’s been bothering you,” she added softly.
I felt at once surprised and relieved that she had guessed my pain. I hesitated for a moment, and then confessed about losing the princess role in the play. She listened quietly. When I finished in sadness, she said, “Sometimes, the roles we don’t expect turn out to be the most meaningful. Being the narrator might not feel glamorous, but it’s just also important. You have a chance to tell the story in your own way.” Her words comforted me, and I realized she was right. Her wisdom and unconditional support became my guiding light, and I carried that lesson with me long after the play ended.
