此处情态动词could并非表示过去时态,而是表示委婉语气,
后跟动词原形表达有礼貌地请求或请求允许做某事。
表示请求时与please连用会使语气更加委婉。

surprise可作名词也可作动词,

According to the result, we knew most of the students (about 70%) thought it was not necessary for students to do housework. They thought it was the job of their parents. Because they could learn a lot by doing it, and knew how hard their parents were.
