There were once ten suns. They lived in a tree in the East Sea. One of them came out every day. They brought light and warmth to the world. But they were naughty (调皮的). One day they decided to come out all at once. The sky was too bright. It was too hot. Rivers dried. Plants died. The land was full of cracks (裂缝).
Hou Yi was an excellent archer (弓箭手). People asked him for help. He told the suns to go home. But they didn’t listen. They just laughed. The ten suns went on playing together. The world was burning. People were crying in pain. They were dying.
Hou Yi felt very angry. He gave them another warning. But the suns still didn’t listen to him. So he started to shoot. One after another, Hou Yi shot down nine suns. Only one sun was left. Hou Yi saved the world.
People gave thanks to him. They thought he was a great hero. So, thanks to Hou Yi, the world was not burnt. Now we only have one sun and it is not too hot. But the sun is really important to us.
