Because it is so special, someone thought of celebrating it. Since pi is 3.14, a physicist named Larry Shaw decided March 14th would be the perfect day. So on this day in 1988, he invited his friends to walk around in a circle and eat pies. Later, more math and science lovers celebrated Pi Day on March 14th each year. On November 26th, 2019, Pi Day was recognized as the International Day of Mathematics.
Pi Day is celebrated in different ways. There are games in which people try to memorize as many decimal places (小数点后位数) as they can. There are pie-eating contests. Then, at 3:14 p.m., there are special events. For example, people get free pies at some parties.
Today, pi is not just a number.

Dear future Linda (or rather myself),
I hope when you read this letter you don't find my writing too messy! At the moment, I'm 15 years old and living at home with my family. I love school and have lots of good friends. We do lots of fun things together like parties, ice skating and swimming. My biggest worry is not doing well in my school exams, but I'm working really hard so hopefully I have nothing to worry about.
There's so much I (you!) want to do. I hope you've traveled all over the world and seen lots of things and met lots of people. I hope you've visited the Great Wall in China and the pyramids in Egypt, shopped in New York City and in Paris, seen polar bears in Norway and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. I've just remembered, you always wanted to see elephants in India—I hope you've managed to do that, too.
I promise myself I'll always try my best and have no regrets. I never want to forget where every step of my life has taken me. Already it seems as if so much has happened. I've moved from primary to junior middle school (about to graduate), been taught to swim and dance (I love ballet dancing), learned to speak Chinese and French, and raised money for those in need by selling old toys and books.
I really hope you're happy. I hope you have a successful career that you enjoy doing and look forward to each morning when you wake up. I hope you're surrounded by good friends and family and maybe also have a family of your own. More than anything else, I hope you've enjoyed every single moment so far!
Love Linda

A Letter to Myself
Dear myself,
How time flies! It's time to say goodbye to your junior high school life.
Memories are still fresh that you were so shy and quiet when in Grade Seven. Sometimes you were even too shy to ask the teachers questions about learning. But now, with the help of teachers and warm-hearted classmates, you become more and more confident and outgoing. Do you still remember the quarrel with your best friend? You were so sad those days. But luckily, you made up quickly. And you learn to open yourself up now and understand what friendship means to everybody.
May you always keep these unforgettable moments in mind because they will help you grow into a better person.
Wish you all the best, my dear self.
Yours,
Li Hua
